Past, Present, and Future Watch shows you only what you need to see

Past, Present, Future Watch
When we look at a watch, we want to know the time of the present down to the minute and possibly the second. Our lives run on a schedule, and while our phone is usually the best way to keep track of “when we are”, a wristwatch is a more discreet way of checking the time without looking like you’re bored at a meeting. However, instead of showing you one fixed point in time, it shows you what is, what was, and what will be.

The Past, Present, Future Watch shows you the present minute and hour, with the past and future times being slightly obscured. This way you can only see the relevant numbers, and not worry about what what comes before or after. The design is simple and small, but it makes its own statement. The buckled wristband is made of black leather, and the watch is somewhat water resistant, but you likely don’t want to submerse your hands in a tub or sink.

While this isn’t overly crazy like the Tokyoflash watches we’ve seen in the past, it does have a unique style that is borderline minimalistic. As it isn’t too obtrusive, those who spend much of the day typing would likely not even have to worry about removing this for comfort reasons. If you’re interested in this watch, it will cost you around $110.

Casio G-SHOCK goes undercover with new camouflage range

gshock-camoWhen it comes to watches and interesting timepieces, there are many different models out there in the market for you to pick from. The thing is, which particular model would be the most suitable one for you? It really depends on a whole lot of factors, ranging from your budget to your personality as well as needs. One thing is for sure though, Casio, through the years, have always proved their G-SHOCK range of watches to be worthy of their calling, coming in a rugged form factor that is more than capable of handling their fair share of knocks, drops, and tumbles, and they continue to work. The Japanese company has recently unveiled a new collection of entirely modern watches that will feature an all-over coating of a classic tiger and woodland camouflage prints in order to match the rough-and-ready nature of the watches. LG G Watch will run on Android Wear

lg-g-watchIt does seem as though the smartwatch market segment is all set to scale greater heights than ever before, with word that Google will be releasing the Android Wear platform that makes wearable technology all the more viable in everyday life. Motorola did announce their Moto 360 smartwatch earlier this week, and South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has decided to hit back with a reply of their own, calling it the LG G Watch. This LG G Watch will run on Android Wear, and that makes it play nice with a wide range of Android smartphones, as it works to offer you relevant information as and when you require. Alternatively, you can just speak “OK Google” to the LG G Watch, ask it a question, and get stuff done.

LG, being one of Google’s lead partners in this effort, has plans in their pipeline to introduce the LG G Watch to the masses sometime in the second quarter of this year, so we should not see it being delayed beyond June 2014. The LG G Watch that is powered by Android Wear is touted to offer a low barrier to entry for developers, and not only that, it also claims to offer the best Google experience for users. I suppose only time will tell when the device is finally delivered to the masses.

LG engineers have been said to have worked closely with Google from the initial stages of development to ensure that the LG G Watch worked perfectly with Android Wear. This makes the LG G Watch as LG’s fourth device developed in close collaboration with Google, where the previous three models would be the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, shared, “The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all stops in both design and engineering. With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”

Moto 360 smartwatch announced

moto360Could 2014 be the year of the smartwatch? It very well could be, really, if recent developments are anything to go by. With Google dropping an announcement on their Android Wear platform, here we are with Motorola jumping aboard the smartwatch bandwagon with one of their creations that they have called the Moto 360. The Moto 360 happens to be a timepiece that not only looks good, but it also feels great as it provides you with the kind of information that you need, as and when required.

I suppose you can more or less call the Moto 360 a truly modern timepiece, although it still has a long way to go before it is lumped under the complex timepieces that are created by the likes of Breitling and Rolex. The Moto 360 is designed by Motorola and powered by Android Wear, where it will be able to keep you on time as well as up to date without taking you out of the moment or distracting you. In fact, some might even think of it as sentient to a certain extent, as the Moto 360 is capable of telling you just what you need to know prior to you knowing it yourself via subtle alerts and notifications.

A simple twist of the wrist would allow you to check out just who is the one sending you an email or dropping a phone call, in addition to what time your next meeting at the office is, or to check out a friend’s latest social post. The Moto 360 is also subservient to your voice, where all you need to do is say “Ok Google” and you can fire away questions for it to get stuff done including the likes of scheduling an appointment, sending a text, setting an alarm or taking a note. It remains to be seen just how Motorola will price the Moto 360, but exciting times are ahead of us!

The Bedol Water Water Clock – A ripple in time

bedol_water_clock
We want to improve the environment, but we didn’t exactly grow up knowing every step we should take to be mindful. Day-to-day occurrences like forgetting to turn off power-sucking devices or throwing away batteries which we often forget shouldn’t be tossed in the trash or recycling are a little too normal. While you can try to put up sticky notes to remind yourself to do things differently, wouldn’t it help if your gadgets, gizmos, and appliances ran on clean energy that didn’t need much maintenance so you didn’t have to take extra steps?

While it is small in the grand scheme of things, the Bedol Water Clock has no use of batteries or being plugged in. It runs on H2O! Of course, if you want to get really technical, you can look into how it was produced and do background checks on the impact the company has on the environment with their use of plastic and manufacturing methods, but I doubt it’s worth the trouble unless you’re going into complete tree-hugger mode.

This clock has a transparent tank in the back where you can see the water, and it can keep going on the initial amount for about 6 months to a year before needing to be changed out. This works because “the positive and negative ions in water serve as a conductor for the metal plates to create energy to power the clock”. It comes in teal, and is over a foot tall/wide so it will be easy to see. Should you be interested, it will cost you around $89. If that ruined your interest, there are plenty of solar-powered watches and clocks out there that will cost far less.

The Kisai Upload Wood LCD Watch will safeguard your secrets

upload_wood_tilt_darksandalwood
We all have secrets that we need to keep safe. However, if your information is digital, you’ll occasionally want to move it around so that it won’t be found so easily. This can be anything from copies of your drivers license or passport to love letters you never intend to send. Either way, you want to know exactly where they are, so you never have to worry about them falling into the wrong hands.

The Kisai Upload Wood LCD Watch will store whatever information you need to carry around, and hides it in plain sight. This is a timepiece that has memory storage which you can dip into through the provided USB cable. It comes with a 2GB MicroSD card, but you can always change it out for something larger (there are no capacity limitations). You will need to take out a few screws to do this, but it shouldn’t be too challenging.

Not only will this store information, but it looks wonderfully classy as well. This is a combination of wood and metal, and you’ll be able to choose between a dark sandalwood with silver and a blue LCD, or a maple with gold compliment with a natural LCD display. The numbers on this wristwatch are stretched in the same way road signs are, which means they are best read at a lower angle. If not, you’ll have a hard time discerning the hours, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of a second. This will cost you around $109, or more should you choose to get a larger MicroSD card.

clap-on-alarmDon’t you wish that you had magical powers to exhibit and impress those who decide to pay your home a visit? Busy Bee Wall Clock tells the time sweetly

busy-bee-wall-clockNot all clocks are created equal, and when it comes to a wall clock, you might want to settle for something as ordinary as a regular IKEA timepiece, or you could opt to fork out a decent amount of coin for something which is truly unique. Case in point, the $60 Busy Bee Wall Clock. Bees are an industrious lot, where this particular hive or swarm mentality will be able to pull through an entire colony in tough times, although such thinking might not necessarily work well in a human context. Still, there is something fascinating with bees, and this nature-inspired timepiece would definitely deserve a place in the living room of any home.

The Busy Bee Wall Clock is the creation of father and son team, Lance and L J Nybye, where they decided to merge the geometric beauty of a honeycomb alongside the human innovation of laser-cutting technology. This particularly delicate, hexagonal lattice was created using precision-cutting decorative plywood, where it is then painstakingly hand-glued in order to create a layered look, before it is endowed with a coat of cheerful, honey-yellow, water-based dye. There will be a solitary, laser-cut honeybee that rests in the 12 o’clock spot.
