Kisai Xtal LED Watch is modern and mysterious

Kisai Xtal
What is it that drives a person to wear a wristwatch? Did they get it from a loved one, and therefore have sentimental value placed on the object? Does it have extra functions such as the smart watches we’ve seen in the past? Most people sport one because they did so before they had a phone to constantly check, and now would feel naked without one.

If you’ve been wearing the same watch for a long while, then you might be in the mood for an upgrade. Of course, those of you who are a bit more adventurous in your time piece selection might be interested in the most recent TokyoFlash option, which is the Kisai Xtal LED Watch. It’s fairly straightforward if you want it to be, but switch it to cryptic mode and it looks like a piece of alien technology.

When the blue, red, white, or green LEDs are not lit, it looks like a continuous band around your wrist. You will have the option of gold, or black trimmed with silver. There are date and alarm modes which you can set, as well as animations that can be turned on or off. This is a fairly pricey watch at around $139+, but these are well-made, and very unique. While it may not have a minute and hour hand like the one your grand-pappy used to have, it will still communicate the time just as effectively.

The Pocket Watch Flip Cell Phone is far fancier than a smartphone

Pocket Watch Phone
In this day and age, having a smartphone seems like a normal occurrence. Flip phones are deemed out of date, but that’s only because there is a new and improved version of a smartphone coming out every other month. Our standard for a phone is high enough to begin with, but just when we think we have the pinnacle of cellular phone innovation, something new surfaces.

There’s always competition for being the slimmest, fastest, and most well-connected phone, but what about being the most dapper? Everywhere we look things are wanting us to be modern and up-to-date, but that’s not going to work for everyone. Some of us like to look back in time for fashion, including the reign of the pocket watch. Maybe that’s why steampunk exists? For those of you who find outdated and weird to be your preferred style, then the Pocket Watch Flip Phone might tickle your fancy.

This is a gold colored pocket watch that opens to a number pad and 1.8 display. It sports a 1.3MP camera, and has MP3 capabilities. It does have Bluetooth, memory card slots, and and comes on a chain. Seeing that it’s only $85, I would throw my money at the screen if I didn’t still need to check my mail all the time. Is this the sort of thing that Tuxedo Mask would use for a magical transformation in Sailor Moon, because I feel like it definitely would be.

Average Days Watch – What are you doing with your life?

Average Days Watch
The way we live life now seems to move at such a quick pace that we can hardly cope. Every minute that we’re not doing something productive feels as though we’re wasting time. Even if we’re supposed to be sleeping, our mind is racing with all the things we should be doing, rather than the task at hand. We’re not robots, and you sometimes forget that while you can have something of a system to your day-to-day happenings, there’s always going to be a wrench in your plans somewhere along the way.

If you do like keeping with a certain regimen, has it ever occurred to you that many people out there do the same thing? So many people keep the same sort of daily routine that there is actually research done specifically on how we use our time. The Centre for Time Use Research director gave a customized data set to Mr. Jones Watches so they could create the Average Days Watch.

It’s not overly flashy, because it’s not supposed to be. This is a very unconventional watch though, as it shows time without numbers, and in a 24-hour format. The minutes are still easy to read, and go in a full rotation every hour. This will allow you to see the most commonly way time is used by people, whether that be sleeping, eating, taking a little time for yourself, or working on a hobby. There are only 100 of these made, and they cost around $200.

FiLIP keeps track of your children

blue-compressed
Children are curious. They want to be everywhere and see everything all at once. This means their attention span is short, and they can get into some serious trouble fairly quickly. While it is the parent’s job to keep them in check, this isn’t an 8-hour gig that you can clock out from at the end of the day. They’re mentally exhausting with endless questions and physically tiring too with potentially hazardous exploration that you need to pull them away from.

Needless to say, taking them into an open space such as a park can be pretty terrifying. So much as a  three minute sit-down break while they play on the swing set could have them kidnapped, injured, or adventuring outside the park area. You can strive to be ever-vigilant, but it’s nice to have a little backup. The FiLIP watch may look like an average keeper of time to anyone else, but it’s actually a communication device that just so happens to have a GPS tracker nestled inside.

As this was made for children, it can take their rough-and-tumble play-style, as well as all of the sandy, muddy, and wet environments they like to tussle in. This pairs up with an app, and will let you have phone-to-watch communications with your little one. From this app, you can set up alerts for whenever they wander out of a safe zone, pick other contacts that your child can talk to, and send messages. This is aimed for kids from 4-11, and will be pairing up with AT&T, which likely means you’ll need to purchase coverage plans. This is far better than getting them an actual phone, as those are much easier to lose or break. The pricing isn’t available just yet, but this will be up for grabs in the coming months.

Monty Python Ministry of Silly Walks Watch will encourage some unusual behavior

python-watch
There are a myriad of lovely, well-crafted watches on the market that are sure to last for generations. They boast quality materials, classic designs, and all that other insanely boring stuff. It’s nice to have a good time piece like your grand-pappy did and all, but being in professional mode all the time is no fun for anyone now is it?

While there’s a special place in my heart for Tokyoflash with their crazy watches, they don’t really have a humorous style to them. Even their professional geek standards lack the kind of comedy that we need to pull us through the work day (though the animations are rather mesmerizing). While there are plenty of other ways to keep ourselves entertained, having the Monty Python Ministry of Silly Walks Watch around couldn’t hurt now could it?

This hilarious watch pays homage to what is quite likely one of the funniest and most easily recognizable skits. On the face of this watch is John Cleese, moving his legs about in a most hilarious way as the time passes. Seeing that this is only $35, the quality of its make is a bit questionable, but it will likely hold up for several years in good hands. Beware the power of this constant reminder though, as you may find yourself starting to think up a new and silly style of walking.

Tikker watch tells you how much time left you have on your clock

tikkerNow this is an interesting question to consider – would you prefer to know just how many days you have left to spend on earth, or you prefer to be not in the know, so that you are able to make the most out of each day instead? I would fall under the latter category, but if you are a meticulous planner who also wants to plan for your eventual demise, then you might want to check out this particularly interesting Kickstarter project that is known as the Tikker watch. This Tikker watch is supposed to be the first self-contained atomic clock watch in the world.

The Tikker watch does not have any kind of fancy designs in the first place, but before you are able to wear it, you will need to answer a simple questionnaire, before subtracting your current age from the results. After doing so, you will have to set the clock to count down the rest of your life. Apart from that, it will also be able to keep track of local time, although it goes without saying that the death countdown would be the “main attraction” here. Right now, the Tikker watch is going for a $39 pledge, where it will arrive in a shade of black that is also what the grim reaper wears. If you prefer a custom color, then be prepared to pony up a $1,000 pledge.

Ring Clock just goes to show that size doesn’t matter

Ring Clock
We have a lot of preconceived notions about how things should be. That could easily relate to a matter of subjects, but when it comes to technology, most people have a set way of viewing certain gadgets or gizmos. Most of the time, a watch is associated with something that is worn on your wrist, with a clock face that is round. Of course, there are always people out there that are looking to break the mold, which has led to some pretty interesting innovations.

The Ring Clock is something you definitely won’t see every day. This may look like a chunky ring with numbers on it, but with a simple twist it will reveal bright LED lights showing you the time of day. The design is pretty sleek, and you won’t have to worry about the normal bumps and bruises that scuff up a wrist watch. Not to mention there’s not any glass face for you to worry about breaking either.

This is a surgical stainless steel construction that has three rings with the hours, minutes, and seconds displayed. The LED is only available in blue or orange, and in one two-hour charge, you’ll be able to get a week of use out of it (about 15 uses per day). The battery will only last for three years, but you can go through the return process of getting it replaced for about $55. I suppose it should only make sense as the ring itself is around  $195. It comes with a Qi wireless charger where you can set the time. It is water-resistant, but it’s always a better idea to remove jewelry before submerging your hands in water.

Serenity Wake To Light Clock wakes you up with soothing sounds

serenity-wakeThere is the usual alarm clock, and then for many of us, we use a smartphone’s alarm app to make sure that we are able to jump out of bed in order to meet a brand new day head on. Of course, those two are not the only alarm clocks available to the masses, as there are different kinds which will nudge you awake gently. Case in point, the $99.99 Serenity Wake To Light Clock. Sure, it might sound like a whole lot to pay for at first, but when you take into consideration that it will rely on a harmonious blend of light and sound therapy so that your body will naturally align itself to its circadian rhythms, letting you fall asleep naturally, get a far more sound rest, and to wake up in a refreshed and rejuvenated manner.

Some other features of the Serenity Wake To Light Clock include the all important snooze button, an integrated FM radio, a chime alarm as well as five preset soundscapes to get you started – birds, ocean, stream, ocean with music and stream with music. You can choose from 15 lamp brightness levels, and the entire shebang is a cinch to program. While at home, you can leave the Serenity Wake To Light Clock plugged into an AC outlet, but if you need to bring it with you on the road, then a trio of AAA batteries will do the trick.

Kisai Maru LCD Wood Watch – time goes ever on and on

Tokyoflash Kisai Maru
As your eyes skim over the words of this article, seconds tick by. There are days when they seems to be moving at a rapid pace, and others they feel as though they last for an eternity. There’s no way to reverse them, and feeling any kind of sadness over what has passed will only waste more time that could be spent doing more productive things. The most we can do with time is keep track of it, and hope to make the best of the allotment we have here.

Many people enjoy keeping track of the passing minutes and hours. While we normally use our phone and alarms to tell us when we’re supposed to be doing things, there are those who still enjoy wearing a wrist watch. If you value your time, and want to be the only one who can read it at a glance, then the Kisai Maru LCD Wood Watch might just be for you.

This is a wooden watch that is named “maru”, meaning circle in Japanese. The face of this watch consists of many circles, only one of which moves with the passing minute. There are 60 tick marks in all, and the only indication of the time is from the longer and shorter hands. The hand that faces outward tells the minutes, while the inward facing hand tells the hours. You can choose whether or not you want a little animation to play out every five minutes, but the display is always on. It runs on a standard battery watch, and will cost you upwards of $100. Your options for the type of wood are limited to red sandalwood and a maple. As these are made out of a tree, you should expect that the tint of the wood will differ from time piece to time piece.

Garmin delivers two more GPS running watches – the Garmin Forerunner 620 and Forerunner 220

garmin-forerunner-620Some of us like the feeling of running – it makes us feel extremely light, not to mention that running happens to be great exercise for one to burn all those additional calories that have accumulated around the waist. Having said that, Garmin, a name that is synonymous with GPS navigation devices, has just unveiled a couple of GPS running watches, and they are known as the Garmin Forerunner 620 and Forerunner 220. Both of them are said to be the lightest, thinnest, most advanced offerings for runners from Garmin, making it your very own non-living personal running coach.

Let us take a look at the Forerunner 620 first – it will arrive with a bunch of advanced features including recovery advisor, race predictor and VO2 max estimate that will come in handy in helping runners train smarter and to achieve new race goals. When used in tandem with the NEW HRM-Run monitor, the Forerunner 620 will also be able to deliver the relevant feedback on running form. Assuming you prefer to hit the treadmill instead of pound the pavement, both the 620 and 220 will feature a built-in accelerometer that is capable of tracking distance and pace, meaning you do not need to obtain a separate sensor. Either way, these two models will come with Garmin’s special one-inch Chroma color display.

Not only that, equipped with Bluetooth Smart wireless upload capabilities, the Forerunner 620 and 220 are capable of sending runners’ run data to the Garmin online community known as Garmin Connect, all without requiring one to be tethered to a computer as a compatible smartphone will do the job. Not only that, the Forerunner 620 and 220 are pretty tough, being water-resistant to 50m with rechargeable batteries that are said to last up to six weeks in watch mode and up to 10 hours in training mode. Expect the Forerunner 620 to arrive in blue/black and white/orange color configurations, while the Forerunner 220 will feature black/red and white/violet shades. Depending on whether you are picking up the HRM-Run Bundle or Heart Rate Bundle, they will retail for $399.99/$449.99 and $249.99/$299.99, respectively.
