Floating Frisbee Could Fly 100 Feet or More

I’ve never been all that good at throwing a frisbee. On occasion, I’ll get off a good shot, but it usually goes like 15 or 20 feet then peters out or takes a violent turn off course. But if one inventor gets his way, we might soon be throwing around frisbees that could fly 100 feet on a single throw.

floating frisbee

Leonid Zaytsev’s Floating Frisbee concept would have a lightweight fan built into the middle of it, giving the fan extra loft when thrown, thus keeping it in the air longer. The design envisious a circular cutout in the middle, with a fan and a cage around it to protect your fingers when throwing and catching it. I imagine there would be some sort of circuit to kick the fan in when thrown, and it would probably need some sort of stabilization to ensure the fan doesn’t throw it way off course, and the battery would need to be very light in order to not weigh it down too much. Engineering challenges aside, it’s a cool concept, and hopefully one that will eventually make it to market. If you like the idea, head over to Quirky and comment on the Floating Frisbee.

Dad Turns Kid’s Toy into a Real Car

Here’s another story about another cool dad. Where were all of the cool dads when I was growing up? Why are dads so cool now? Why do we never hear about granddads doing cool geek stuff? All I know is that this kid is super lucky. The kid in this video not only has a Fisher-Price Power Wheels Lightning McQueen, but he worked with his dad to make some cool modifications.
modded cars car
It started off as a slow boring toy 3 years ago, but little Evan’s ride now has metal rims with rubber tires, an aluminum back half chassis, dual sealed gel batteries with an output of 24 volts, a 500 watt .66 horsepower electric motor, disk brakes, throttle modulated variable speed control with reverse and Sparco battery cut-off switch. Does your car have all that? Check out the new and improved ride in the video below:

Now this kid has an awesome ride to go along with his awesome dad.

Motorized LEGO Tumbler and Bat: Not The Toys We Need, But The Toys We Really Need

Expert LEGO builder Peerk Kreuger aka mahjqa is back with a timely creation that will make you soil your BatUndies. Kreuger made a couple of motorized versions of the Tumbler as well as of The Bat.

The Tumblers – available in Batman Black and Bane Brown Camo – have LED lights and seem to handle rough terrain quite well. The Bat has moving propellers but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t actually fly.

Still not impressed? Here:

Check out Kreuger’s Flickr page for more pictures. He’ll also probably upload the build instructions for both vehicles on his website, but this time he’s also put up proposals on Cuusoo for each vehicle. Will these cars remain unofficial vigilantes or will they be recognized superheroes of LEGO Gotham? You got the power. Make it happen.

UDIRC RC Quadcopter Won’t Chop Much off Your Budget

Drones are a hot piece of tech these days, whether you’re a kid or an armed force. Rich kids and rich armed forces, that is: for instance, the popular Parrot AR.Drones sell for $250 to $300 (USD). Lucky for us, Brando stopped being weird for a second and got a hold of a cheap alternative.

udirc remote control quadcopter

Brando describes the UDIRC remote control multicopter as follows: “The Perfect Flying Object with this New Design Technology, The Most Stable (like the real?) Floating in the AIR. The Special Design of the One Press Button, which can make the UFO to Somersault in the Air. This RC UFO is powered by a Small piece Battery that is fueled with the USB External Dual Charging Box; therefore, UFO can Fly Never Stop with this Unlimited Power Supply!” Yeah. Still weird.

udirc remote control quadcopter 5 150x150

Because it doesn’t have a camera, fancy smartphone controls or good looks, the multicopter’s price is the good kind of weird: Brando is selling it for just $50(USD). That’s a steal for a quadcopter, but for a quadcopter with unlimited power supply? It’s the heist of the century.

Super Angry Birds USB Controller: Fake Slingshot Adds More Realism

Say what you want about its origins or depth, but Angry Birds is a prime example of touchscreen gaming done right. But what about its PC and Mac versions? Maybe Rovio should’ve included something similar to this USB controller.

Simply called Super Angry Birds, it’s a force feedback USB controller that makes playing the game even more intuitive. It was made by CIID students Andrew Spitz and Hideaki Matsui for one of their classes. Watch the video to see it in action as well as how it works:

All I want is that itty bitty TNT plunger.

Pissed Off? Don’t Yell, Just Take it out on the Dammit Doll Instead

Did someone run over your bike? Did your boyfriend (or girlfriend) cheat on you? Did you tell your kid brother not to mess with your stuff, only to come home and find him reformatting your laptop?

Before anything else, don’t throw a fit. Don’t get angry, don’t scream, don’t yell, and don’t bang things on your way out. Instead, go up to your room, take out your Dammit Doll… and let all hell break loose.

Dammit Doll1I know stress balls are supposed to calm you down when you’re steamed, but how are you supposed to release all that anger and frustration when you’re supposed to squeeze those darned things?

The Dammit Dolls are better because they let you vent your anger so you can face the situation dead on in a more calmer way. And if you’re still feeling antsy after a couple of whacks, then feel free to whack your Dammit some more until you feel better.

Dammit Doll

A lot of people attest to the effectiveness of the Dammit Doll. It’s so popular that it’s currently sold out on the Spoon Sisters, but expect it to be available by August 22nd. The Dammit Dolls are available in an assortment of designs and are priced at $13.50 (USD).

This Revolver is the World’s Smallest Fully-Functioning Firearm

In no way do we here at Technabob condone gun violence (except in video games.) That said, are you prepared to lay your eyes on the coolest and smallest functional revolver in the whole wide world?

Swiss Mini GunIt’s size is about a quarter of a regular person’s palm, and while it shoots real (mini) bullets, it won’t hurt upon impact. Heck, even BB guns can do more damage than these babies.

They’re 100% Swiss-made and their workmanship is exemplary, from the looks of it. They’ve even got their own miniature holsters to keep them handy, just in case the owner wants to shoot a Lilliputian. That is, if they existed.

Swiss Mini Gun1

Unfortunately, it doesn’t meet the U.S. Factoring Criteria for weapons so SwissMiniGun won’t be able to ship them out to the States. People from elsewhere can order them online for 6,300 Swiss France (~ $6,422 USD). Oh, did I mention that they’re also hella expensive?

LEGO Faerie Forest Reminds Us of Endor

I think that most of us probably wanted to live in a tree house at some point when we were growing up. I know when I was a kid I wanted to live in a giant redwood like an Ewok so badly that I could barely stand it. A couple LEGO builders named Sean and Steph Mayo (aka Siercon and Coral) have designed what they called the Faerie Forest out of LEGO, and it reminds me of that forest on Endor that I dreamt of years ago.

The tall, thin trees with the LEGO homes around their trunks are very cool. When you look at the first image of the entire scene from a distance, it’s very hard to tell all the intricate work that went into the design.

fae 2

Once you look at the close-up images and see how much work was put into each of the tree houses and the river, it’s even more impressive.

The scene is filled with tiny fruit trees, gardens, and lots of little people living out their Minifig lives. I wonder how long it took the duo to build this enormous LEGO diorama.

Wikipad is a Tablet for Games, not for Research

Last January Razer showed off its concept for a gaming tablet. As it turns out, there was another gaming tablet that was announced around that time. For some reason it’s called the Wikipad, and not, I don’t know, Gametab. But names aside, it does have potential.

wikipad gaming tablet

According to VentureBeat, the Wikipad is an Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) tablet. It will have a 10.1″ 1280 x 800 IPS display, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 T30 1.4GHz quad-core CPU and 1GB 1066Hz DDR2 RAM. Like most tablets it will come in different memory capacities, with the cheapest model having the standard 16GB of storage.

But perhaps the most unique feature of the Wikipad is its detachable controller, which looks like a stretched out Xbox 360 controller. It has two analog sticks, a d-pad, four face buttons and a pair of triggers and bumpers. Note that Razer didn’t mention if the Project Fiona tablet’s controller is detachable. The other hyped up feature of the Wikipad is its glasses-free 3D display, but the first model that will be launched will only have a 2D display.

Wikipad wasn’t able to meet the March release date, and the VentureBeat exclusive made no mention of a price, which could mean that those numbers have changed as well. It would be stupid to assume that Apple isn’t at least considering a gamer-oriented mobile device, but for now it seems like its competitors are trying to come up with such a device. Apple still has hundreds of thousands of trump cards – the wealth of games in the App Store – but who knows what will happen if someone nails the right mix of hardware, software and network capabilities?

LEGO Low Rider Gets Its Bounce on

I’ve seen plenty of LEGO cars and trucks over the years. I always appreciate attention to detail when it comes to building a vehicle out of LEGO blocks. A guy named Alex Jones (aka OrionPax) has created an awesome LEGO low rider that looks like it’s straight out of a Cheech and Chong movie. The car is called “The Hob” and has tons of features that you can’t see in the photograph.

lego low rider the hob

The car has fully functional (simulated) hydraulics, working lights, RC hardware, chrome, and has an integrated MP3 player with a speaker. That means you can play Low Rider by War as you cruise The Hob around your living room on three wheels.

You have to check out the video of The Hob to see what it can do for yourself. I wonder how the builder designed the motion system to make the car move around. It appears to be constructed completely out of LEGO down to the frame rails.

Check out more images of The Hob over on OrionPax’s website.
