NASA has created the first ever map of radioactive material in a supernova remnant, revealing one of the biggest mysteries in the universe: How stars blow up in these explosions, sowing the universe with heavy elements like iron, titanium or gold.
We were teased with visual eye candy earlier today
As usual, every single time I see one of these movie remakes as an 8-bit retro game I feel the nostalgia of playing something that I never played. Their version of Inception is, once again, impeccable. I wish these people made games instead of just videos.
There’s something hypnotic about watching vehicles crash and roll, especially knowing that only the test dummies are in danger. However, in this image-stabilized clip, the car doesn’t seem to be the one rolling, but rather the entire world around it.
I don’t care what they say about Guardians of the Galaxy. I wanted to see this movie before this teaser trailer, talking raccoons and whatnot, but now I want to see this space opera even more. It’s really going to be some serious eye candy sci-fi porn.
But it also looks sort of beautiful. In a if this school of fish surrounds you, your skin will melt, your flesh will be eaten raw and your bones will be cleaned dry kind of way. Real tornadoes are probably still scarier but fish tornadoes look like the sentient arm of some sick underworld cartoon monster.
This is some Jedi-level Star Wars tribute art: the Coruscant Tapestry is 30 feet of cross-stitchery chronicling every character, plot point, and detail from Episodes One through Six, framed with quotes in freaking Aurebesh. The Force is strong with Aled Lewis.
What you’re looking at is a carbon fiber drive shaft and a steel drive shaft being twisted with force until they break. As you can see in this torque test between the two, the carbon fiber shaft doesn’t budge (that’s not a still image, folks) while the steel shaft cork screws itself and becomes deformed under the same amount of twisting pressure. Gnarly.
This is fun. NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover driving over dunes in Mars. Check out the view from the back, after going through all that sand.
Everyone is crazy about The Lego Movie—solid story, nonstop humor, good characters, and absolutely spectacular visuals. It’s not surprising, looking at how much work and care these people put inside this film—and how much fun they had making it.
