Half-Life 2 Headcrab Hat: Hair & Mind Control

ThinkGeek is now selling an officially licensed plush Headcrab Hat. It sits on top of your head and doesn’t cover your face. Because that would just be silly.

The hat has an adjustable baseball cap-style closure at the back and is made of polyester. We think.

All hail the mutant lavender crab!

All hail the mutant lavender crab!

A Japanese seafood wholesaler found this lavender king crab in a shipment of regular king crabs. According to the company’s president Kenetsu Mikami, this is the first time he has seen a crab of this color in 25 years. "It could be a good omen," he says.

Video of a crab trying to steal a camera is surprisingly funny

I don’t know why but I find this video of a crab trying to steal a GoPro camera so funny. I blame the overdose of anime in my young years and my subsequent inclination to anthropomorphize everything in sight. Just look at the little buddy pretending that nothing is going on and then trying to run away with it.

Remote Control Crustaceans Give You a Bad Case of Crabs

If you’ve followed Technabob for any period of time, you know that we love our quirky Japanese gadgets around here. The latest weird and wacky gizmo to turn up from our friends to the East? Remote-controlled crabs.

Yep. The Kani Crab RC Toy simulates the movements of a real crab, skittering around the table with its legs bouncing about. Though the blinking LED eyeballs blow its cover a bit.

You can even choose from a “fresh” dark colored crab, or a bright red one that looks like it just spent some time in a boiling pot of water.

You can get your hands of the Kani Crab RC Toy over at the Japan Trend Shop for $35(USD) – or if you happen to live in Japan, you can get your crabs from JTT. I can only imagine the fun you could have with your friends the next time you go to a seafood restaurant.

Watch a crab climb out of its old shell like a mutant

Watch a crab climb out of its old shell like a mutant

Crabs are red alien water tarantulas who regenerate like mutants. Just look at this crab literally climb out of its old shell and toss away that used exoskeleton like it’s a dirty pair of pants. So gross but so cool. I kind of wish I could shed skin like this. It’d probably be the most refreshing feeling ever.

LEGO Strandbeest: Walk Like a Crustacean

Despite the fact that I’m horribly allergic to shellfish, this LEGO creature that reminds me of some sort of crazy crab has still warmed its way into my heart.

lego strandbeest

The 12-legged little critter was created by Singapore LEGO fan Lee Ping Ng, based on the mechanisms that Theo Janssen created for his unbelievable walking strandbeests, using LEGO Technic parts. Though I have to say Lee’s walker is cuter – especially with those big bug eyes protruding from it’s head. Here, check it out in action:

See, isn’t it cute how he wanders about the tabletop? At least I don’t have to worry about going into anaphylactic shock by messing with this guy either.

Half-Life 2 Headcrab Necklace Better Not Crawl onto Your Head

For weeks after I played Half-Life 2, I had nightmares about rooms full of headcrabs descending on me, and me trying to fight them off by flinging circular saw blades at them with my gravity gun. So the idea of wearing a necklace with a headcrab on it just give me the creeps. Plus, I’m a dude.

But that didn’t stop jewelry artist Annika of Paranoia mit Sahne (which translates to “Paranoia with cream”) from making a headcrab-inspired necklace for those of you who find the little guys cute and charming. The necklace was handcrafted from Fimo and Super Sculpey clay by the artist, stiffened with wire, and topped off with acrylic painted details and a heavy-duty glaze coat. And no, none of that killed the headcrab. It’s still alive and well, and ready to climb up that chain and into your hair.

If you find the idea of a wearable headcrab appealing, you can grab this thing over on Etsy for about $35(USD). Grab it before it grabs you.
