Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 USB Sound Card Announced

Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 USB Sound Card AnnouncedBack when I was a wee lad, installing a sound card onto your MS-DOS-powered computer would require you to pull out the toolbox, take a screwdriver, and start to tinker around with the motherboard as you slot in a dedicated sound card into an available ISA slot, followed by having various games configure the sound card afterwards. Over time, the humble sound card has been miniaturized and embedded on most motherboards which works great for most folks unless you were an audiophile. Now, we have a USB sound card that is as easy as it gets to use, and the Creative Sound Blaster Play! 2 is one such device.

Whoever said that food and fashion don’t mix obviously haven’t seen these dainty and appetizing hats by MaorZabar Hats. Granted, the concept is strange and a bit far out, but the execution is just gorgeous.

Creative announces Sound Blaster Roar speaker

creative-roarCreative introduces their latest speaker yet – the Sound Blaster Roar. The Sound Blaster Roar is special in a sense where this new concept of a 5-driver portable wireless speaker has been made flesh. The launch of the Sound Blaster Roar will continue to follow a highly successful sneak preview which happened just early last month over at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, where whoever laid their eyes on it (and had their ears treated to its capability) having shared some very positive comments. For instance, the Sound Blaster Roar will come with a bi-amplified design which will make use of a pair of amplifiers. One of the amplifiers have been dedicated to driving the lows and mids, while the other has been dedicated to deliver the highs.

Such partnership has enabled the speaker to be able to produce uncompromisingly clear, high definition, well balanced music without missing a beat. Apart from that, you would be pleased to know that the Sound Blaster Roar is no one trick pony. In fact, it also comes with a slew of useful features, where among them include speakerphone teleconferencing capabilty, a microSD memory card slot that paves the way for MP3/WMA/WAV playback and audio recording, a siren, Bedtime Mode and Life Saver Mode. This particular speaker will be able to hook up sans wires over Bluetooth, where it will make use of aptX and AAC codecs for the highest quality audio and lowest possible latency.

Apart from that, there is also support for the latest Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology thrown into the mix. Those who are curious in picking one up will be pleased to find out that the Sound Blaster Roar can connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. All in all, the Sound Blaster Roar measures a mere 57mm x 202mm x 115mm and tips the scales at 1.1 kg, but packs quite the aural punch. It has a large, built-in 6,000 mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery that can deliver up to 8 hours of audio playback on a single charge, retailing for $199 a pop when it arrives.

Nosferatu Curtains: If Drapes Could Kill

They say that a person’s eyes are the windows to his or her soul. But what about the windows to your home? They’re literally windows to your life, but could they also be windows to your psyche? That could be the case for those who have fancily-decorated blinds and drapes, like the ASCII curtains and 35mm film curtains.

Hopefully, that won’t be the case for the folks who have these Nosferatu curtains hanging on their windows, though.

    Noseferatu Curtains01magnify

Most people associate “nosferatu” with vampires, but did you know that it was derived from the Greek word “nosophoros,” which means “plague carrier”? People in the olden times associated vampires as being carriers of diseases, which explains why both are used interchangeably when referring to one or the other.

These hand-painted curtains incite fear and they’ll most likely scare off potential burglars from entering through windows that’s shadowed by this menacing figure. If you don’t want to go the Nosferatu route (which is most likely too creepy for many people’s tastes), then you can always get the stealthy Ninja curtain for the same deterrent effect and geeky vibe ala Ninja Assassin.

These curtains are handmade and are made from soft 100% polyester fabric, so they’ll flow every which way when a cool breeze blows by. They can also be used as shower curtains, as headboard decor behind your bed, and as wall art wherever you feel like it.

For example, this Superman curtain would be awesome for a kid’s bedroom (bathroom, or window, too), don’t you think? If these designs aren’t up your alley, then you could always go the DIY route (ala the 35mm film curtains) or get some custom window blinds made especially for you. Customization would be ideal if know what you want to end up with, but just don’t have the time to make it yourself or shop around for it.

These curtains are available online starting at $40.99(USD). Prefer to make your own? Then check out this do-it-yourself guide found here for some tips, tricks, and a comprehensive how-to.

    LEGO Food2

It’s hard to believe that Sachiko only used bricks available in various LEGO sets to come up with LEGO versions of bananas, pancakes (complete with syrup and butter), sushi, and even a Big Mac with a side of fries!

    Disney Princesses x Star Wars

It’s about time someone made this Disney Princesses and Star Wars mash-up happen. What makes it even more fitting is the fact that Disney actually owns the Star Wars franchise now. If they decided to do a Star Wars Princess edition, then I’m sure they could pretty much make it happen, although they’ll probably annoy a huge legion of fans on both sides of the fence in the process.

disney star wars princess 1 620x900magnify

DeviantArtistRalph Sevelius ran with this concept in his latest works of art which feature Disney’s princesses dressed in Star Wars- inspired garb. There’s Jedi Ariel, Sith Elsa (pretty fitting, if you ask me), Padawan Rapunzel, and slave princess Jasmine.

My favorite from is the one of Aurora frozen in Carbonite. Given that she’s the Sleeping Beauty and all, well, I think the reference is pretty appropriate.
