Dealing with credit agencies can be a real pain. A lot of times it feels like the credit bureaus just don’t care about regular folks like you and me. We’re not alone—turns out, even God can’t get an accurate credit report. Because Equifax doesn’t believe in Mr. God Gazarov.
Judging by the millions of YouTube views since it launched just last week, there’s quite a bit of interest in Coin. The Bluetooth-enabled swipeable lets you add in identifying info from up to eight individual credit, debit, membership, loyalty and gift cards, and comes along with companion Android and iOS apps that boost functionality. While the applications enable you to save detailed card info for online purchases, push additional payment methods to Coin and access the Bluetooth-powered leash that will send an alert if you walk away without your card, the device works independently as well.
The company is announcing some additional security features today that should serve to ease at least some fraud concerns. Coin will include an “alarm” that tracks the number of times the card is swiped and sends an app alert if it suspects unauthorized use. It can also be locked to just one card before you hand it over at a store or restaurant, so a clerk can’t accidentally (or deliberately) swap cards before swiping. Reps also responded to 50 questions on a new Q&A page, addressing additional security-related and function queries, including ATM compatibility (yes, it will work), photo ID storage (uh, no) and chip and pin support (not yet, but it’s in the works). When AMC split the last season of Breaking Bad in two, it annoyed iTunes Season Pass holders who had to pay twice to finish Walter White’s saga. Rather than point angry viewers in AMC’s direction, though, Apple is shouldering the burden (and trying to dodge a lawsuit) by issuing refunds. Customers who bought the not-actually-last season of Breaking Bad are receiving $23 iTunes credits that they can use for another Season Pass if they so choose. The refund comes just before the series wraps this Sunday, but it’s a welcome recompense for viewers who were caught off guard. Check out Apple’s email to customers after the break.

Running low on cash? Have a few gadgets that you can live without? Then you might want to swap the latter for some instant credit at your nearest Walmart. You won’t get cash, but you’ll get an eGift card that you can spend on groceries, clothes, and new gadgets.
This is all thanks to Walmart’s new “Gadgets to Gift Cards” program, which they announced recently. The announcement was made in anticipation of the release of the next iPhone. In addition to consumer electronics, you can also trade in video games for credit – though the amounts they’re offering are very low – offering a whopping $1.39 for a copy of Halo 4 in good condition. Higher-end gadgets fare better, with a 32GB iPad 2 bringing $175, and an AT&T-locked 32GB iPhone 5 going for $335 for example.
The program allows people to spend their credit even before they ship off their devices for verification, provided they pass a credit check first. So in case you’re thinking of scamming them in this program, you’d better think twice.
To get started, log on to the program Web site and get a quote for your device. Choose the “pay me now” option and get an eGift Card within a few minutes. You can then print a free shipping label and send in your old device within 10 days.

Lower Manhattan, Pearl Street, the Financial District. A Starbucks with broad windows, great for people watching. Sipping my $5 flavored coffee, I watched a homeless man sit on the sidewalk. I liked him immediately: his sharp gaze and thoughtful expression. When I left, I squatted down next to him and put five bucks in his jar, contributing the cost of my first-world coffee to the man’s case for survival.
We talked. He knew his tech, this man of no possessions, describing his favorite productivity gadgets of the past decade, scorning Apple for form over function. He had been living on the street day and night for two years. My five dollars was “huge,” he said. I knew that was true only microcosmically. He liked cigars. That’s where the cash would go.
Meanwhile, Starbucks had recently cut a deal with Square, one of the hottest startup stories of the season, so that people with five dollars to spend on coffee needn’t pull out a wallet and ponder their privilege.

At today’s keynote, Motorola head Dennis Woodside has pledged that the company will attempt to upgrade all of its new and existing Android handsets to Jelly Bean “very soon.” However, for some units, the latest version of Google’s mobile OS is going to be too “compromised” to use properly. In that event, it’s pledging to give you $100 credit off one of its brand new handsets, which are being unveiled today. It’s not given details about how you go about claiming that credit, or when the program begins, but as soon as we’re told, we’ll let you know.

Remember that Google Play gift card support we told you about just this morning? Well now things got real. Literally. The pic above shows one of the shrink-wrapped critters in a $25 denomination. Android Central claims they were sent a few different pictures, showing $10 varieties also — and as we can see from the box — they’re good for music, movies, books, apps and (mysteriously) “more.” So if you’re after that hot new game, now’s about the time to start dropping hints to your nearest and dearest.

Among the premature Google Play leaks this morning is a line about a purchase bonus, to ship alongside each Nexus 7 tablet. As a temporary incentive, Mountain View is offering customers a $25 credit to spend on Play store content, along with additional content, including a copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. We’re just minutes away from the start of Google’s I/O conference keynote, where we expect to hear full details about the tablet and bonus cash, along with a handful of other devices, such as the Nexus Q.
