Office Depot starts stocking 3D Systems printers online

Could 3D printing be the future of office supply stores? Staples, for one, has been dipping its toes in those rising waters, offering a limited selection of devices on its site. Office Depot’s following suit, making the seemingly logical move of including the third dimension in its printing offering. The chain announced today that it’s added 3D Systems’ Cube and CubeX to its online store, selling the printers for $1,299 and $2,499, respectively. It’s not quite a 3D printing kiosk in every store (who wouldn’t want a personalized Star Trek figure while you wait?), but it’s always nice to see a company looking to embrace emerging technology.

Staples To Be First Major US Retailer To Offer 3D Printers For Sale

Staples To Be First Major US Retailer To Offer 3D Printers For SaleWhile 3D printers are cool and have pretty useful features, both medical and novel, we’re not sure if the casual user has ever though that it would be cool to have one at home. Well we guess if you ever thought differently, the good news is that you can now buy a 3D printer of your own from none other than Staples, who is currently the first major retailer in the US to offer 3D printers to the mass market.

The printer that Staples will offer is the Cube (pictured above), and with it being one of the more accessible printers available for consumers, it was one of the reasons that Staples decided to go with the model. The Cube printer will come fully assembled out of the box and will play nice with both Windows and Mac operating systems. The printer will also be capable of printing objects sized 5.5” x 5.5” x 5.5” in 16 different colors, with templates already available, or additional ones which can be downloaded or made on the included software.

The Cube printer is not cheap and is priced at $1,299.99, but if you think that the price is justified, you can order one from Staples’ website now.

    ASUS Cube Google TV review

    ASUS Cube Google TV review

The past year has been a busy one for Google TV — in fact, with the big I/O conference right around the corner, we’re sitting down to review our fifth such device in the past 12 months. The ASUS Cube naturally does everything one would expect from a Google TV set-top box, but it also has a few tricks of its own, like a mic for voice search and a unique “Cube” main menu interface. At $129, it’s priced just above the Vizio Co-Star and far below the Sony NSZ-G57. So how does it stack up? Let’s see.

MusicRocker Cube Speaker Chair: Literal Rump-Shaker

Sometimes, it’s just nice to sit down, take a load off, and listen to a tune. While you could pull out a pair of headphones, you might want to look into a different solution if you want to share your music with your pals – like this seat with built in speakers and an amp.

    musicrocker cube chair 1

The MusicRocker Cube Chair is not only a comfy place to sit your butt down, but you can hear and feel the music beneath your rear as you sit on it.

Each Cube Chair has a pair of 5″ full-range speakers and a 6.3″, 15-watt subwoofer built into it. You can even connect up to 4 of them together to share the same music, and they also have a headphone jack built in, though I don’t quite understand why you wouldn’t just plug your headphones directly into your music player if you wanted to listen through those.

They come in a variety of colors, and are covered with a soft leatherette button-quilted, cushioned top.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a U.S. retailer that sells the MusicRocker Cube, but you can find them over at Amazon Germany for €119-139 (~$155 to $182 USD). Since they come with a European 220V AC adapter, you’ll need to pick up a new AC adapter for use here in the U.S. Also, the Cube has a 240 pound weight limit, so keep that in mind if you’ve been indulging in a few too many of the cakes we’ve been posting around here lately.

CubeSensors: Track the Fitness of Your Home

While fitness sensors are cool, there are plenty of other uses for remote sensors. These environmental sensors allow you to keep track of indoor spaces in your home.

CubeSensors can record environment conditions and send them to the cloud, which will allow you to access them via any mobile device. An app sends you notifications about how to better tailor your environment for better productivity or comfort. Each cube can sense temperature, humidity, noise, light, air quality, barometric pressure, and even vibrations.

They can be used at home or at the office, and are designed to be relatively unobtrusive. The CubeSensors will be released this summer and are available for pre-order for $250(USD) for a pair with their base station, or $350 for a set of four. Additional cubes retail for $99 each. You can reserve your set for just a $10 down-payment.
