Stackable Brick Mugs for LEGO Lattes

If you work in an office where people are constantly stealing your coffee mug from the staff kitchen, here’s a fun way to keep all your mugs organized. You can stack numerous coffee mugs in these interlocking LEGO-like cubbies, giving each person their own little place to store their mug.

Each square ceramic mug slides neatly into its cubbyhole, and you can pretty much have as many mug cubbies as you want. Though I’m guessing if you stack them more than three or four rows high without some sort of sticky stuff to hold them against the wall.

Individual stackable mugs go for $19.99(USD) each, while a set of four sells for $74.99 over at ThinkGeek. While that’s not exactly cheap for a set of mugs, they’re definitely some of the cooler ones you’ll find. I guess you could always build a structure from actual LEGO bricks, and buy some of these.

Make Way For the Olympics: The Paramilitary Clearance of Rio's Slums

They come bearing satellite TV. Brazil’s Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais, or BOPE, is an elite force of military police who often specialize in urban operations in Rio’s slums—or favelas. As the World Cup and the Olympics approach, BOPE forces are appearing more and more often. And their techniques are evolving.

Smart Lids Warn You When Your Coffee’s Too Hot

How many times have you burnt your tongue because you sipped too-hot coffee or cocoa from that takeout cup? Aiming to drive that number down are the folks behind the SmartLid.

smartlids 1

It’s a disposable beverage lid that changes color, depending on the temperature of the cup’s contents. Just keep a stack of these in your car or at your office, and replace the lid on your cup with this one so you’ll know when it’s safe to take a sip. It’s originally maroon in color, but it changes to bright red when the contents in your cup are still piping hot at the 120°F (48°C) range. It’ll slowly change back to its original color as your drink cools down.

SmartLids available in packs of 40 for $30 (USD). They also offer packs of 1,000 lids that people running cafes or restaurants might want to pick up.

Mighty Mug Promises You’ll Never Spill Your Coffee Ever Again

How many mugs have you broken this year? If you answer two or more, then you’re a certified klutz and you shouldn’t be using glassware anymore. You’re probably better off with something like the Mighty Mug.

Mighty Mug

It’s a sturdier-than-usual mug of sorts that’s BPA-free and recommended for the uncoordinated and klutzy.

The secret lies in its “Smartgrip” base. To activate it, you’re supposed to flex and flick the grippy pad with your fingers before setting it down. Once it’s been set down, the Mighty Mug “grips” the surface and you won’t be able to knock it down or knock it over, even if you tried to do so on purpose.

When you’re ready to take a sip, just lift it by its handle and voila! It’s loose and ready for you to drink from.

Mighty Mug is dishwasher and microwave safe and is available from ThinkGeek for $14.99(USD).

BMO Says It’s Tea Time!

If you watch Adventure Time, you know that BMO is an incredibly versatile robot. He/She/It can function as a video game console, toaster, flashlight, alarm clock, music player, electrical outlet and more. And now, BMO can serve you a cup of tea.

bmo teapot 1

This awesome four-cup BMO teapot was handcrafted by Rebekka Ferbrache of Jade Flower Ceramics, and is a perfect likeness of the Game Boy-inspired robot pal. Rebekka says she was inspired by the Bitter sketch from Five More Short Graybles, in which BMO teaches its alter ego Football how to drink tea with pinkies extended.

But wait, there’s more – you don’t just get BMO when you buy this teapot. You’ll also get four nifty ceramic teacups so you have a place to pour your freshly-steeped brew instead of directly onto the surface of your coffee table.

The BMO tea set is available over on Jade Flower’s Etsy shop for $150(USD).

Cell Phone Party Cup – Never Miss Another Tweet

Some people insist staring at the screen of their smartphone every waking hour of the day. While I personally abhor this anti-social behavior, it’s a fact of modern life. Now you can keep an eye on the screen of your phone even while you’re having a drink of your favorite beverage.

The Cell Phone Holder Party Cup is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a  16oz. plastic drink cup with a built-in stand that fits most smartphones. Just strap your phone into the straw-mounted stand, and you can keep an eye on your gadget whenever you go in for a sip.

At first glance, I thought this was an April Fools joke, and then I realized that it’s the end of May. Oh well. If you really must keep constant watch on your screen, you can buy one of these over at Perpetual Kid for $8(USD).

Budweiser Wants You to Drink Socially with the Buddy Cup

Apparently Budweiser feels that drinking isn’t a social enough activity. They want to integrate your drinking with Facebook. How will they do this? With the Buddy Cup.

buddycup

This new beer cup has a chip in the base that allows it to detect the presence of another Buddy Cup. Thanks to a QR like code on the bottom of the cup, you can link it to your Facebook account. Once your cup is Facebook aware, the fun begins. If you toast another Buddy Cup, you automatically become friends on the popular social network.

The problem is we mostly drink with people we already know, so what’s the point? Perhaps it’s just a clever marketing campaign that perhaps hasn’t been thought out as well as it could have been. What do you guys think?

You’ll (H.P.) Love this Cthulhu Goblet (Craft)

A few weeks back, we told you about some awesome ice cream cups and mugs that look like zombies. Well the guys behind that Kickstarter project are also working on a cool goblet, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos.

cthulhu goblet 1

Created in collaboration with the guys behind the Achtung!Cthulhu RPG, this ghastly green ceramic goblet is the perfect pimp cup for those times when you’re feeling evil. It’s a pretty awesome looking vessel, though it really needs some wings on it so it can truly fit the description of the Lovecraftian monster.

If you pledge at least £20 (~$31 USD) over on Kickstarter before this Sunday, April 28th, you’ll be able to get your very own Cthulhu goblet (in either ice cream cup or beer mug variants.)

NOTA Coffee Mug Keeps Spoons in Their Place

I’ve had the unpleasant experience of having the spoon hit the tip of my nose as I sipped my morning coffee. Of course, I could just take the spoon out and throw it in the sink, but I like stirring my coffee once in a while.

For years, this first-world problem has bugged people and injured noses more than you think. And at last, a worthwhile solution has finally emerged in the form of the NOTA Coffee Mug.

NOTA Coffee Mug

Contrary to what its name might indicate, the NOTA Coffee Mug is, in fact, a coffee mug. What sets it apart is the special groove that lets coffee, tea, cocoa, or [insert your preferred beverage here] drinkers take a sip without injuring their noses in the process.

NOTA Coffee Mug1

The NOTA Coffee Mug was designed by Lee Hae Seung Scott. If people can make stuff like the Shark Attack mug, then I don’t see why they can’t make this one happen.

Zombie Head Ice Cream Cups and Beer Mugs: Fancy a Cup o’ Brains?

Zombie fans, check out these fun Zombie head ice cream cups and beer mugs. The ice cream cups allow you to eat their cool chilled brains instead of them eating ours.

While the ice cream bowls are shallow so you can see the ice cream brains sticking out. The beer mugs look pretty awesome too, with hatchets and pistols and stuff stabbed through their heads, doubling as handles.

Any zombie fan would love to have these in their kitchen and display them proudly.

If you like them, you can help fund the project. A pledge of £15 (~$23 USD) will get you a single zombie ice cream cup or mug. And for those of you who prefer Cthulhu to zombies, you can go for the Lovecraftian version for £20 (~$31 USD). The project is already well on its way to reaching its £15,000 (~$23,000 USD) goal and still has 18 days to go.
