LEGO Cthulhu Will Destroy Your Sanity

When you cast your eyes upon LEGO Cthulhu you will lose any sanity that you have left. It is simply pure evil and awesome to behold. It will leave you a drooling quivering mess that is better off dead. But, hey, don’t let that stop you. It’s an amazing geek creation.

LEGO cthulu

This custom LEGO sculpture debuted at Bricks by the Bay recently and was made by Carl Merriam. It took 1,400 bricks, and he actually made it look frightening. All of the details are stunning. It took around 30 hours to complete.

The ancient one has awakened and he is amazingly awesome. Even in brick form. Great job Carl. Don’t sleep with the lights off.

Upside-down Car Is One Bitchin’ Camaro

No you are not seeing things. That car is really upside down and racing along without a care in the world. Jeff Bloch, otherwise known as “SpeedyCop“, likes to make strange custom cars. This one just happens to drive on its roof.
upside down
His latest project is a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro that he flipped over, then somehow made roadworthy. He describes it as “a frightening fusion of a wretched 1990 Ford Festiva and a horrible 1999 Chevy Camaro, with a not-so-subtle twist.” Creating this thing must have been a huge challenge, but the end result is pretty amazing.

upside down1
SpeedyCop says that he is basically an 8-year-old kid trapped in a 40-year-old body. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the only way to be. He might want to take those turns easy, otherwise he’s going to scrape his rear-view mirrors against the asphalt.

Custom Pacific Rim Crimson Typhoon Action Figure: Go Modded or Go Extinct

This custom 7″ action figure of the Crimson Typhoon wasn’t made by triplets. It was modded by toymaker/jaeger meister/apocalypse canceller John Mallamas aka Jin Saotome.

Jin modified NECA’s official action figure of Pacific Rim‘s Chinese mecha to make it more poseable and attractive. He replaced its arm hinges and added ball joints on its ankles. He also replaced the hands using parts from Transformers action figures and made a plasma blast prop for its left hand. He also installed an LED on its eye and added a ton of sculpting detail. Finally, he repainted the entire toy, adding details like wear and tear.

Jin put the action figure up for auction on eBay, but it’ll most likely be gone by the time you read this. But he’s also going to sell custom action figures of Pacific Rim‘s main mech Gipsy Danger as well as of the Knifehead Kaiju, so watch out for those on his deviantART page. He should make his own take on a mecha-Kaiju.

Custom NES Sega Genesis Controller Perfect for Playing Super Sonic Brothers

Is this custom Sega Genesis controller with a sweet NES design awesome or sacrilege? I can’t decide. In my mind, the NES was so much more awesome than the Genesis. I do love them both though. So I guess I love this controller.
nes genesis controller
It just looks slick. Amazingly slick. It’s a controller from an alternate dimension. Can you imagine what the matching console would look like? This is the work of Zoki64 and if you are reading this, Please make a custom Genesis to go with this.

Awesome work my friend. Clearly he forced both consoles to make love and then snatched one of their offspring. I see no other explanation for such an amazing controller.

Custom Contra Action Figures: I’d Give 30 Lives for These

If you’re one of the thousands of kids who grew up playing Bill and Lance’s excellent adventure aka Contra, join me in ogling these custom action figures by John Harmon aka Mint Condition Customs. They even come with the different ammo types!

John imagined what Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone would look like if they starred in a live action Contra movie back in the 80s. That last qualifier is important; I certainly don’t want to see the Governator with his shirt off these days. The action figures are poseable and have swappable equipment, including ammo belts, flak vests and the machine gun, spread gun and laser ammo attachments.

BROTALITY. It would be awesome if they came in a box that played Contra’s title theme when it’s opened. These action figures are currently being auctioned off on eBay, where as of this writing the bid sits at a criminally low $41 (USD). Although I think part of the reason why it’s that low is because John won’t accept bids from buyers with 0 feedback. In other words, don’t bother signing up on eBay just to buy the action figures because John won’t entertain your bid anyway.

ABC: Moto X smartphone to ship with custom colors and engraving

ABC Moto X smartphone to ship with custom colors and engraving

We’ve heard few details about Motorola’s upcoming flagship smartphone since the firm’s CEO teased the device at D11, but a full-page advertisement in several of the country’s top newspapers today hinted at customizability, which ABC News has now confirmed. According to an article on the broadcaster’s website, the device will be available in different colors, with an optional engraving. And, since it’s due to be manufactured in Texas, the customized device will reach American consumers within a few days of an order.

Customers will be able to select colors for both the back panel and the smartphone’s side trim. Additionally, you’ll be prompted to upload a photo that’ll be used as the device’s default wallpaper. Like traditional handsets, Moto X will also be available in retail stores, according to ABC‘s sources, though you’ll need to order online if you want a non-standard configuration. We’re still waiting on specification details, pricing and availability, but if today’s ads are any indication, we can expect a formal launch soon.

Update: Wednesday is turning out to be a good day for Moto X leaks. Following news of customizable colors, we’ve just come upon a snapshot that purports to show off three of these options: teal, red and fushia. You can take a peek after the break, and we have a feeling these might be just the first of many colorful leaks to come.

LEGO Game of Thrones Minifigs: Does Ned’s Head Pop off?

LEGO is a family-friendly brand, so I can say with a high degree of certainty that they’ll never release an official line of Game of Thrones minifigs. But that didn’t stop one enterprising LEGO fan from creating a line of custom Game of Thrones figures.

game of thrones eddard stark lego minifig

LEGO customizer miniBIGS has created this series of five Game of Thrones minifigs, including Eddard Stark, Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen (complete with one of her baby dragons.) Each one is made using genuine LEGO parts, custom pad-printed similarly to how factory LEGO bricks are printed by Citizen Brick.

game of thrones daenarys lego minifig 300x250
game of thrones jon snow lego minifig 300x250
game of thrones tyrion lego minifig 300x250

Each of the minifigs perfectly captures the spirit of the characters from the TV series. I love the little wine cup for Tyrion, and how Arya has her needle. Though it seems as if they got stuck after season one. I mean, where’s Melisandre? What about Mance Rayder? Still I’d be happy if he even added an oversized Hodor minifig. And I want a Joffrey minifig, just so I can melt him in the oven. Hopefully, these guys are working on some more.

The individual figures sell for $15(USD) each, or you can grab the set of five for $65.

Hack a Day modder builds a custom controller for disabled gamers

Hack A Day A custom gaming controller for disabled gamers

Sure, when tinkerer Caleb Kraft found out that pressure switches marketed at the disabled were massively overpriced, he got mad like anybody else. But then he decided to get even the best way he knew how: by building his own, and posting the plans for all to follow on Hack a Day for free. The project came about via a kid with muscular dystrophy named Thomas, who enjoyed Minecraft but may eventually lose the ability to hold a controller or use a mouse and keyboard. Caleb’s idea was to build low-pressure switches using a 3D printer and simply map them to the Minecraft keyboard and mouse commands using a $20 Teensy board. He posted his plans online, but since he feels they could be improved on, also created a site called the Controller Project (see the More Coverage link). From there, those in need of a custom device can make a request, other modders can post their own plans and builders can use them to make controllers for donation. Since more is always merrier for such things, if you have those skills or know someone who needs them, hit the source for more info.

HackEDA hits Kickstarter, makes Arduino board design a drag-and-drop affair (video)

HackEDA hits Kickstarter

Writing code for an Arduino-friendly board is relatively easy; creating the board is the hard part, unless you live and breathe electrical engineering. If HackEDA has its way, however, the design process could be almost as easy as window shopping. Its new Kickstarter-backed project lets tinkerers choose from a list of parts and get a made-to-order board without knowing a lick about PCB assembly — algorithms sort out the finer details. While the initial effort includes just 36 combos based around an Atmega328 processor, contributors who want tangible hardware can pay anything from $30 for a bare board through to $10,000 for the first stages of mass production. The truly committed will have to wait until December for the finished goods, but those willing to try HackEDA can use its existing web tool for free.

Dodge Ram Man of Steel Truck: Still Not Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

There have been many commemorative cars made to signify the release of movies, but I have to say that it took me a second to realize that this truck had anything to do with Superman. It’s pretty obvious once you look at the front grille. And I guess because Clark Kent grew up on a farm, it kind of makes sense.

dodge ram superman man of steel

The Dodge Ram Man of Steel Truck is a one-of-a-kind wagon in a dark ceramic gray wrapper. It comes with a high-gloss black roof, anodized red grille accents, forged aluminum, satin-black 17-inch off road wheels because this truck is made to go where there are no roads. The whole thing was inspired by Superman’s suit.

Pewter leather seats, with custom mesh inserts, and anodized red accents on the inside continue the theme. There are Superman logos on the grille, tailgate, seats, and console. If you want to make this yours, you’ll have to keep an eye out for the upcoming auction later this year or simply customize your own truck.
