CyanogenMod Now Supports 11 Additional Android Devices

CyanogenMod Now Supports 11 Additional Android Devices

If you were to ask someone about the best custom ROMs for Android smartphones, CyanogenMod would definitely make their list. The team creates some of the world’s widely used custom ROMs, they’ve already started work on CyanogenMod 10.2 for Android 4.3, and the feature set is quite impressive. 11 additional Android devices have now been added to the list that is supported by CM, the list includes two Barnes & Noble tablets, a few Motorola smartphones and a couple of Samsung ones as well.

The B&N Nook HD and HD+ get CyanogenMod support. Representing Motorola on the list are the Photon Q CDMA and GSM models, the Droid Razr M, the Rarz HD GSM, and the Droid Razr HD CDMA. For Samsung, the Galaxy S Relay 4G, the Galaxy S4 for C Spire and Verizon Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE receive support. It is expected that nightly CyanogenMod builds for these devices will be released over the next few days. Apart from the C Spire Galaxy S4, there exists a possibility that ROMs for all of these devices will be upgraded to CM 10.2 down the road.

CyanogenMod 10.2 Will Come With “Global Blacklist” For Blocking Calls Or Texts

CyanogenMod 10.2 Will Come With Global Blacklist For Blocking Calls Or Texts

Soon after Google announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the folks at CyanogenMod made their own little announcement. They have begun work on CM 10.2 ROMs. David Van Tonder took to Google+ to reveal a feature that would be included in CM 10.2 ROMs. Called “Global Blacklist,” it will allow users to block text messages and calls, even both if they want to. The feature will be configurable through Messaging, Phone and Settings. It will also be available to third party apps through a “content provider API.”

The Holo compliant interface means that the feature will blend in with the rest of the Android 4.3 environment. Users will be able to type or select numbers to block from their address book. Numbers can also be added to the blacklist from the in-call screen, the call history screen, the quick reply popup as well as the Conversation screen in the Messaging app. Users will be able to enforce the type of blocking, whether they just want to block texts from a particular number or calls. Notifications will be displayed with an unblock action, users will be able to allow a number to be whitelisted so that calls or messaging, or both, can reach the user. No word as yet when we can expect CM 10.2 ROMs to be released.

CyanogenMod Focal Camera App Raises The Bar

CyanogenMod Focal Camera App Raises The Bar

Smartphone photography is serious business these days, every year the latest devices come bearing beefier camera sensors. To provide a great photography experience, these sensors need to be backed up by powerful camera apps. CyanogenMod Project, which is behind some of the most used custom Android ROMs, has now created a new camera app called Focal. It raises the bar for all stock and vendor modified apps. Focal is actually part of the mysterious CyanogenMod project called Nemesis, under which they will be releasing new features in various phases.

Focal has been built from scratch, its user-interface is widget based that consists of modern Android elements found throughout the OS. Users can drag the focus point anywhere on the viewfinder, or they can tap anywhere for automatic focus. The settings menu can be brought up by swiping your thumb from the left. The camera button expands out and offers toggles for panorama mode, front camera and more.

Panoramic shots can be taken through Focal, CyanogenMod didn’t use Google’s PhotoSphere technology that’s available only for Nexus devices (out of the box). They built their own, called PicSphere, which is totally open source. Other features include a burst mode, improved HDR mode and ability to take pictures while recording video. CyanogenMod nightly builds released from next week will come featuring the Focal app. [Image via Geek]
