Back in 2012, Nikon announced the D600 DSLR camera but it looks like a little over a year later, the camera manufacturer has decided to discontinue the device. This is according to a listing on B&H which states that the camera has since been discontinued by the manufacturer, meaning that photographers who are thinking about getting their hands on the device will no longer be able to. Of course there will still be some stock left and should be available through a variety of retailers, although like we said since it has been discontinued, whatever stock is left is pretty much all there is. Photographers who wish to get their hands on the Nikon D600 will probably have to act quickly just in case their local retailers run out stock.

The reason for the discontinuation of the D600 is due to the release of the Nikon D610 which was announced earlier this month. The innards of the D610 is expected to be similar to the D600, although the changes made were to its shutter mechanism which was reportedly improved, and quiet, continuous shooting options, higher FPS rate, and improved white balance. Given that the camera’s release is in October, we guess it makes sense for Nikon to discontinue the Nikon D600 lest it ends up competing with the newer model or confuses customers.

So here we are, after bringing you the alleged full specifications sheet which was leaked earlier today, the real Nikon D600 has just been announced, more or less confirming what we talked about before. The Nikon D600 will be a FX-format camera that boasts of a body which Nikon claims is the “smallest and lightest among FX-format cameras” without sacrificing on performance. Meaning, it delivers excellent basic performance courtesy of its a 24.3-megapixel image sensor. Not only that, underneath the hood you will find a similar EXPEED 3 image-processing engine that already sees action in other high-end Nikon DSLRs such as the Nikon D4, Nikon D800, and Nikon D800E.

Rumors about the Nikon D600 started to go around since April earlier this year, where in June there was another leaked image of the device sans the lens in its full frontal glory, followed by more information in the month of August that September 13th is the rumored announcement date for the Nikon D600, alongside a nugget of juicy information that you will most probably be able to purchase a couple of Nikon D600 DSLRs with the same amount of money that you fork out for the Nikon D800. Back to the menu item at the moment; Nikon’s D600 full specifications were said to be leaked, touting a 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, ISO 100 to 6,400, 39 autofocus points, a 3.2” LCD display, the ability to shoot Full HD video at 24, 25 or 30 frames per second, and at 720p, you can hit 60 frames per second.

All videos will be shot in H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC format compression, delivering a maximum clip length of half an hour, tops. Heck, you can even have the live feed piped to the D600′s HDMI port as an uncompressed Full HD signal, now how about that? Are you looking forward to the Nikon D600?
