The biggest addition in this DLC is the ability for you to have your own lair and hideout. The lair will be able to host Lair PvP battles and has a mainframe computer that will give players access to new customizations and combat abilities that can be used in Metropolis or Gotham City. The hideout is a lesser version of a lair that lacks some of its capabilities.

The DLC also adds new missions at four locations giving a total of 10 new missions to complete. The content is available as a free download for Legendary members for $9.99(USD) for free and Premium players. You can download the content pack right now for the PC or PS3.

GeForce Experience Open Beta hands-on: optimization for all!

This week the teams behind the NVIDIA GeForce Experience have unleashed the Open Beta version of the software, available for download by not just the select few (40,000 users, to be fair), but the greater public – you can grab it now! This Open Beta allows you access to the one and only GeForce Experience, a system where the teams of professionals and undeniably powerfully-minded graphics know-it-alls of NVIDIA’s GeForce ranks have for you sets of optimizations for the games you play all the time. In short: your PC games are about to get a whole lot more awesome.

P1050158-580x326

This release has a limited number of games for which you’ll be able to get next-level optimization on your own GeForce-toting gaming PC. This release pumps up the availability of optimization beyond what the closed beta offered, with both Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPU support now ready for action. NVIDIA also added 2560 x 1440 display resolution support this time around – that having not been part of the closed beta release either.

With the GeForce Experience Open Beta you’ll see improved game detection logic as well as a collection of 41 games ready to look and work as magnificent as they’ve ever been on your machine. Having added FarCry 3, Mechwarrior Online, and the battle action heavy Hawken for this release, GeForce Experience is now able to work with 41 total titles. The rest are as follows:

Assassin’s Creed 3, Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Counter-Strike:GO, CrossFire: Rival Factions, Crysis 2, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Diablo III, Dirt 3, DOTA 2, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, F1 2012, Fable III, Fallout New Vegas, Far Cry 3, FIFA 12, FIFA 13, Football Manager 2013, Hitman Absolution, League of Legends, Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, Mechwarrior Online, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Planetside 2, Portal 2, Shogun 2: Total War, Star Wars The Old Republic, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Team Fortress 2, The Secret World, The Sims 3, The Sims Medieval, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, World Of Tanks, and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.

The actual app and usage therein is beyond simple. Once you’ve got it downloaded and open, you hit the scan button to see if there are any games on your machine that are part of the current list the GeForce Experience works with. The machine we’ve used here is an Alienware M17x R4 (see our full review here), and on it we’ve got none other than Batman: Arkham City (see our full review here) which the GeForce Experience software recognizes easily.

batman33

From there it’s just a button click or two more before we’ve got full NVIDIA-approved optimization of our settings, based entirely on the hardware/software combination we’ve got and ready for the best-case-scenario outcome when we kick out the gaming jams.

And that’s it! The simplicity of this app is part of the experience, the GeForce Experience being one that’s meant to be beyond simple. This environment makes certain everyone takes the time to optimize their machines with as easy a process as possible so that NVIDIA’s GeForce graphics can do their work as well as possible – and everything looks and handles hot!

This release includes upgrades in performance for client startup, game scan, billboard display, and nothing less than straight up communication with NVIDIA as well. If you’re all about getting some fantastic support for your games straight from NIVIDA, it’s time you headed over to the GeForce Experience Beta download page and had at it. This release works with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, and is just 9.16 MB in file size – make it yours!

Bonus! Have a peek at the two videos below direct from NVIDIA – the first was filmed at the CES 2013 event we attended (see the timeline below for more info) with the bossman talking about the release iteration of GeForce Experience. The other video shows the app again in simple terms with fancy graphics flying everywhere – hot stuff!

Warner Bros registers 15 Batman Arkham domains

Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are widely considered to be two of the best superhero games ever created, with each launching to critical acclaim and wild commercial success. Naturally Warner Bros will want to keep its Batman gravy train rolling, and today we’re hearing about 15 new Arkham-related domains the publisher has on file. Does this mean a new Arkham game is on the way? Almost certainly.

arkhamcity

Of course, you’ll want to take any rumors with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation from the company, but after the success of the first two titles, the idea that Warner Bros would just let the series linger seems silly. The domains were uncovered by Fusible, and were apparently filed by MarkMonitor, a brand protection company Warner has turned to in the past in an attempt to keep secrets from getting out. There are 15 domains in all, with each one using the word “Arkham” in one way, shape, or form.

The list includes domains such as arkhamuniverse.com, dcarkhamverse.com, batmanarkhambegins.com, and batmanarkhamstories.com. At the moment, none of the 15 domains actually lead to any kind of website, so it’s pretty clear that Warner is just sitting on these for the time being. If these are for an upcoming video game, it seems that “Arkham Universe” would be the mostly likely name, though with a list of 15 potential titles, Warner definitely has plenty of options.

Then again, these may not be for a video game at all. With Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy now finished, Warner may look to the successful Arkham series of games as the inspiration for a new Batman movie. While a new Arkham game seems much more likely, it would be foolish to rule out anything when we’re talking about money. Stay tuned.

Domo Meets DC Comics to Create Greatest Vinyl Toys Ever

How can you not like Domo-Kun? He’s the cutest little monster we know. And now, he’s been reincarnated in a variety of superhero and supervillain egos thanks to the guys at Funko.

This series of 2.5″ tall Domo/DC Comics figures are quite possibly the best vinyl desk toys I’ve ever seen, and I must have them all. They were recently revealed by Funko, and will be hitting shops at the end of February. The series includes multiple versions of Batman, a couple of Robins, Clark Kent and Superman, as well as The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Shazam. On the evil side of the Justice League, you’ll get the Riddler and Two-Face.

Since these are part of a Funko Mystery Minis series, they’re each individually blind-boxed, with certain toys being more rare and collectible than others. Here’s the rarity scale in case you were wondering:

You can preorder them now over at Entertainment Earth in either 4 packs, or a complete display case. There’s also a line of larger POP! Heroes coming out at the same time, but I don’t think they’re as cute.

Batman Chess Set Priced for Bruce Wayne

Let me start by saying that this Batman chess set will set you back $795(USD). That’s a lot of money in this economy – especially during the Christmas season. It’s amazing just to behold, let alone play with. A press of the Batman symbol illuminates 50 LED lights around the clear playing surface, with Gotham City underneath and projecting a Bat-Signal into the sky. Yeah, now I have to have it.
Batman Chess
This set is full of awesome details. Playing pieces include the Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, Penguin, Batman, Robin, Batgirl and Commissioner Gordon among others. The board measures 20 inches on each side, while the  pieces measure between 2-1/2 to 5-1/2 inches tall and are made from fine pewter and die-cast metal.

I no know how Bruce Wayne plays chess when sitting alone in the Batcave.

DC Comics brings a veritable justice league of titles to Kindle, iBooks and Nook Stores

Not that there’s been any lack of ways to get Batman or Supes on your chosen tablet, between Comixology and the devoted DC app, but if you happened to need on more, the publisher announced today that it will be bringing its entire line to three prominent e-bookstores. Justice League, Batman, Superman and a slew of others are hitting the Kindle Store, iBookstore and Nook Store. Never let it be said that your tablet doesn’t support Flash. check out some thoughts from co-publisher, cartoonist and all around awesome dude Jim Lee after the break.

Kia Unveils Four New Justice League Superhero Themed Vehicles

A few weeks back we mentioned a customized Kia Optima SX Limited done in partnership between Kia and DC Entertainment in a Batman theme. I don’t think a billionaire/playboy/superhero would be seen cruising around in a Kia personally. Still the Batman car was pretty cool.

kia justice

Kia has now unveiled four more super hero themed customized cars at SEMA 2012. The other four cars are styled after other core members of the Justice League include the Flash Forte Koup, Aquaman Rio 5-door, Cyborg Forte 5-door, and Green Lantern Soul. All four of the new cars have customized exteriors with cues from the superheroes outfits as well as customized interiors.

aquaman car

Most of the cars were done in cooperation with West Coast Customs, with help from RIDES and Super Street for others. All five customized superhero vehicles are on display in Las Vegas right now. I guess this will reveal my comic book ineptitude – but I’ve never even heard of Cyborg. I hear there’s a Wonder Woman car somewhere in that picture parked next to her jet. I can totally imagine Doctor Sheldon Cooper cruising the streets in the Flash Forte Koupe, even though he doesn’t like to drive.

The Kia Optima Batmobile: Batman’s Spare Car

Kia Motors, DC Entertainment, and RIDES Magazine unveiled their first of 8 Justice League-inspired Kias at the recent 2012 New York Comic Con. The launch was part of DC’s “We Can Be Heroes” campaign, which helps fight famine in Africa.

This Batman-inspired Optima was on display at New York’s Time Warner Center and is the beginning of a 10-month partnership based on the characters that make up the Justice League. They hope to raise awareness of the charity campaign, which Batman would certainly approve of.

I’m not sure that Batman would ever buy a Kia, but I love what they have done with this car. It certainly looks great with the whole Batman theme – especially that grill.

DC Comics arrive on Nook Tablet, Barnes & Noble lets you watch, zoom the Watchmen

When we initially did our Nook Tablet / Kindle Fire battle royal, the choice between the devices for comics fans largely came down to the preference between the Marvel and DC universes. The lines, however, are blurring. Thanks to today’s announcement, Justice League fans should find as much to love in the Nook Tablet and Color as Avengers devotees. DC has brought more than 100 graphic novels to the aforementioned devices and Android tablets running the Nook app. Barnes & Noble also used the opportunity to announce the new Zoom View feature, which lets readers focus on individual panels — functionality that sounds fairly similar to what Comixology offers in its own popular app. For more information about Crisis on Infinite Nooks, check out the press release after the break.
