LootCrate Geeky Gift Box: Random Drops

You’ve been dutifully leveling up at school. You’ve lost count how many times you’ve run the Part-time Job and Household Chore side quests. You deserve a reward. But rewards are a bit more special if they’re unidentified items right? That’s the concept behind LootCrate. For about $20 per month, you’ll get a goodie box containing 6 to 8 geeky items, from t-shirts to gadgets.

Each month, the company also randomly awards one subscriber with a Mega Crate, a rare drop that contains goodies worth $250 (USD).

The New Slim iMac Is Your Deal of the Day

Back in January, Best Buy ran an unprecedented weekend sale where it took $200 off four different models of the most recent MacBook Air. That was a hell of a bargain; even now it’s the lowest price we’ve ever seen for a new MBA. This weekend, Best Buy is doing it again, only with the new, skinny iMac, and instead of a $200 discount, it’s only $125. The 22-inch iMacs start at $1175 and the 27-inch iMacs start at $1675. That’s still the lowest price for a new iMac we’ve seen—refurbs, when they’re in stock, are cheaper—and that means if you’ve wanted one, today’s probably a good day to pick one up. [Best Buy] More »

This USB DAC Is Your Make-Music-Sing Deal of the Day

Even if you’ve got a sweet pair of cans, listening to music through the on-board jack on your phone or laptop can be underwhelming. That’s why you need a little gadget called a DAC, or a digital-analog-converter. They take the flat, quiet sound that your crappy on-board audio produces and make it clearer and louder. Whitson Gordon over on Lifehacker has a great piece about why’d you want to use a DAC. Some beautiful DACs are audiophile-level gear with audiophile price tags to match, but Fiio makes nice little DACs that are affordable, and one of the nicest models is on sale today. More »

This Beginner’s DSLR Is Your Deal of the Day

Nikon’s D3000 came out in 2009, and even back then it was a cheap DSLR. It’s meant for beginners. In addition to the decidedly non-professional $500 price, the D3000 actually features educational menus to help a first time photographer learn the ropes. Still, it wasn’t cheap, especially for tyros or students—if you’re not sure you’re gonna stick with the hobby, it’s hard to spend what amounts to a rent payment. But flash forward to 2013, and Adorama is selling the D3000 for $210—a price even broke college students can afford. More »
