After the holiday season, early summer is the second best time to pick up some discounted digital games. Steam’s summer sale is coming soon, but right now there are a ton of apps on sale for both iOS and Android, some of which are no-brainers, like the original Sonic The Hedgehog for $1. Actual smartphone not included.
Fuji’s X-Series mirrorless cameras may not be the most beginner-friendly cameras, but they’re certainly some of the prettiest. Beauty may come at a price, but both the X-Pro1 and the X-E1 recently got a $200 price cut.
Right now Amazon’s selling a 3TB Seagate desktop hard drive for $110. That brings the price per terabyte to just over $36, which is a solid price for desktop storage.
Newegg is currently selling a 27-inch, matte Dell IPS screen for $550. The monitor in question sports a matte panel running at 2560 x 1440 resolution. This is an excellent deal.
Jay-Z’s modestly entitled Magna Carta Holy Grail drops on the similarly nondescript Fourth of July. But despite his clear lowering of expectations for the album, he’s somehow found it within his heart to muster up some publicity by letting Samsung give away a million copies for free three days early. Galaxy owners only need apply.
The keyboard you’re typing on is probably gross as hell, and it isn’t doing any favors for your posture, either. Consider replacing it with Microsoft’s stalwart ergonomic split keyboard, which is on sale for $30 from Amazon at the moment.
Most people cook meat by feel with a timer, but sometimes you’ve got to step away from the grill. Or you need to know exactly how hot your meat is. There are lots of meat thermometers that can take a temperature, but wouldn’t you rather have one that you can monitor on your phone?
Back in January, Best Buy ran an unprecedented weekend sale where it took $200 off four different models of the most recent MacBook Air. That was a hell of a bargain; even now it’s the lowest price we’ve ever seen for a new MBA. This weekend, Best Buy is doing it again, only with the new, skinny iMac, and instead of a $200 discount, it’s only $125. The 22-inch iMacs start at $1175 and the 27-inch iMacs start at $1675. That’s still the lowest price for a new iMac we’ve seen—refurbs, when they’re in stock, are cheaper—and that means if you’ve wanted one, today’s probably a good day to pick one up. [Best Buy] More »
Even if you’ve got a sweet pair of cans, listening to music through the on-board jack on your phone or laptop can be underwhelming. That’s why you need a little gadget called a DAC, or a digital-analog-converter. They take the flat, quiet sound that your crappy on-board audio produces and make it clearer and louder. Whitson Gordon over on Lifehacker has a great piece about why’d you want to use a DAC. Some beautiful DACs are audiophile-level gear with audiophile price tags to match, but Fiio makes nice little DACs that are affordable, and one of the nicest models is on sale today. More »
Nikon’s D3000 came out in 2009, and even back then it was a cheap DSLR. It’s meant for beginners. In addition to the decidedly non-professional $500 price, the D3000 actually features educational menus to help a first time photographer learn the ropes. Still, it wasn’t cheap, especially for tyros or students—if you’re not sure you’re gonna stick with the hobby, it’s hard to spend what amounts to a rent payment. But flash forward to 2013, and Adorama is selling the D3000 for $210—a price even broke college students can afford. More »
