Dell’s 2209WA LCD monitor reviewed, deemed king of 22-inchers

Dell’s 2209WA just surfaced a few days ago, and already we’re seeing the first review of said panel courtesy of CNET‘s Australian branch. The 22-inch IPS display was said to boast “excellent color and viewing angles and great gaming performance” at a fantastic price point, with the only real knocks being the omission of 1:1 scaling and the inset design which occasionally caused reflections. Yeah, minor quibbles indeed. In fact, reviewers struggled to even find those, and they were downright giddy to hand out a 9 out of 10 rating along with this strongly worded quote: “This is the best 22-inch monitor we’ve seen.” ‘Nuff said, huh?

Dell smartphone rumors flare up — Android or S60 phone in the works?

So rumors of Dell doing a smartphone have been around forever, but they’ve started heating up again today — word on the street is that the company is planning a handset launch as early as next month at 3GSM or Mobile World Congress. That’s just chatter we’d ordinarily dismiss as nonsense, but we couldn’t help but notice most of the Dell people at the Adamo event were carrying G1s — and Dell’s director of consumer products was super-quick to pull out a Nokia E71 and gush over how well-built it was compared to other devices when we asked him where the Adamo line would be positioned. That jibes with long-standing rumors that Dell’s working on Android and/or S60 devices — rumors that Michael Dell himself refused to put to bed back in July. What does it all mean? Well, we have no idea, but we’d say that Dell’s new focus on consumer-oriented design suggests that WinMo isn’t really in the running if it is in fact planning a handset. We’ll see how it plays out over the next few months — we could be right, we could be wrong, but either way it should be interesting.

Dell’s 22-inch UltraSharp 2209WA LCD monitor surfaces

Dell Canada is good for being the first to show off new LCDs, and yet again we’re getting an early look at a forthcoming monitor courtesy of the Great White North. The 22-inch UltraSharp 2209WA will evidently arrive with a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angles and a 5-millisecond response time. It also features VGA and DVI connectors, four USB 2.0 ports and an undisclosed price tag. It’ll supposed ship in one to two weeks, but given that there’s not even an image available yet, we’re not so sure we’d bet the farm on that estimate being accurate.

Dell’s Mini 9 gets the subsidy treatment

Dell's Mini 9 gets the subsidy treatmentWe all love netbooks, and we also love things costing less than $100. However, since we’re not exactly fond of lengthy contracts, it was with mixed feelings that we reported on Acer’s Aspire One being available in the US for a penny under a Benjamin — plus 24 month’s worth of your soul. Dell is joining in on the fun now, making its own deal with AT&T to enable the purchase of a hot little Mini 9, valued at $449, for $99 after a $350 rebate and a (qualifying) two year contract. The deal is offered exclusively through Dell, but only until the end of the month.

Dell Mini 10 hands-on

We just caught up with the Dell Mini 10, and while it’s not as crazy hot as the white Adamo, it’s still pretty sweet — much nicer looking than the Mini 9, and more compact than the Mini 12. No wonder Dell’s calling it a “perfect 10.” The multitouch trackpad is really similar to the one on the newest Macbooks, but it’s a little less intuitive — the buttons are pushed into the corners, so a middle press doesn’t do a lot. On the other hand, it’s a little more useful — not only can you do the usual zooming and scrolling, laying three fingers on the pad brings up a slick little launcher screen. Too bad we don’t have pricing or availabilty — if this thing comes in at a reasonable number, it’s going to be our favorite netbook. We stacked the 10 up against the 9, the 12, and a MacBook Air, check it all out in the gallery below!

Dell Studio XPS 13 and 16 hands-on

We hit up Dell for a few more minutes with the sleek new Studio XPS 13 and 16, and our positive early impressions just got better with time. We’re really digging the leather panel on the lid, and while the machines are total fingerprint magnets, when they’re cleaned up they’re pretty eye-catching — particularly the light-up circles on the hinges and the backlit keyboard and mouse buttons. Even the bottom is slick — it’s nicely detailed and the whole things lifts off (Dell calls it a “garage door”) for easy access to the RAM and hard drive. We nabbed a ton of shots, check it out in the gallery!

Dell’s XPS 625 reviewed already, found worthy

Dell's XPS 625 reviewed already, found worthy

We’re well into the throes of CES and things are happening hot and heavy; Dell’s Phenom II-packing XPS 625, announced just hours ago, has already been given a full once-over by DesktopReview.com, finding it to be a solid machine — and even a good value. (When’s the last time you read that conclusion about a gaming rig?) The review admires the machine’s sophisticated looks, well-designed case, and easy expandability, but found that AMD’s latest couldn’t quite keep up with the i7 (as we’d heard earlier). Given the price point here that shouldn’t exactly be a surprise.

[Thanks, Patrick]

Dell 2405FPW Flat Panel Monitor

It may not be the best deal ever on this monitor, but Dell is currently offering this 24″ monster for $899 (about $300 off the original price) with a 3-year warranty. If you have any questions about the monitor feel free to ask and I will respond promptly.
