A Lamp That Looks Like It’s Made From Meccano

A Lamp That Looks Like It's Made From Meccano

The Construction Lamp by Joost van Bleiswijk is a tribute to industrial structures—and as a result it looks rather like its made from the Meccano you played with as a child.

Nike LeBron 11 Shoes: Lighter Than Ever

The latest Nike LeBron James branded footwear has been unveiled, and it’s looking like it will be a very lightweight shoe. Previous models were a bit bulkier, which was both good and bad.

I got hooked on the LeBron James 10 simply because of the comfort of the shoe for casual wear. This came from the AirMax 360 airbag that was very prominent at the bottom of the shoe. This feature, or something close to it has been present on LeBron James shoes for a few years. Not anymore. The LBJ 11 no longer has a visible AirMax 360 airbag. Instead, it emphasizes light weight. A size nine shoe weighs just 14.5 oz.

The upper features Hyperposite technology for lock-down, a Hyperfuse construction and Dynamic Flywire tech to keep it all cinched down. The cushion comes from a full-length Lunarlon sole with a Nike Zoom unit – a first for LBJ shoes. So what does that all mean? They’re just fancy brand names for a lightweight, durable and flexible shoe.

The Nike LeBron James 11 will be launched this October for about $200(USD).

Beanbag Hammock is Suspended Awesomeness

What do you get when you combine a beanbag with a hammock? Le Beanock is the answer. Hammocks are already comfortable enough as they are. But adding the cushy comforts of a beanbag? Sheer genius!

beanbag hammock 1

Le Beanock is essentially a suspended beanbag. It’s slightly thinner than your average beanbag, either because the filling is all spread out or because you won’t be able to sit or lie down on it all if it’s too bulky.

It’s the ultimate backyard set-up where you can get infinite cuddle times and have the most comfortable naps ever.

Prices for Le Beanock start at about $315(USD) and go up from there. They can be customized and can be shipped flat-packed so you can save on shipping.

Plexus Shirt Concept Morphs to the Occasion

Many are on the constant search to find the perfect shirt. Not just any shirt, but the shirt for all occasions – something that can be worn to work and donned for a night out. Of course, you’d still have to layer on cardigans or accessories in order to make the full transformation, but what if I told you there’s a shirt that can literally morph into anything you want it to?

Plexus

Designed by Vernon Chen and Joanne Lim Jin Xuan, the Plexus is made of pixelated, color-changing nano-magnets (is this possible? It might be, in the future.) These tiny components allow each panel to be able open like a louver and provide ventilation too.

It’s a reactive, interactive shirt as it morphs and changes color and design based on its wearer’s surroundings and agenda.

Sounds pretty amazing, right? The big catch is that it’s just a concept design… at least for now.

SEAbreeze Brings an Ocean Breeze to Your Living Room

Missing the beach and the good times that you had with friends and family by the shore? Longing for the good vibes that you get from breathing in the salty ocean breeze? Well, you might one day be able to catch wave after wave of it right in your own home with the SEAbreeze.

Sea Breeze

This concept design is a pair of air quality devices that look like extremely fancy vases. However, it’s actually a humidifier and dehumidifier combo that can create a mild breeze throughout the room without a sound.

The humidifier requires an input of salt water to produce humid, salty air like that at the ocean, with its byproduct being salt that can be used for cooking or cleaning. On the other hand, the dehumidifier recaptures humid air and has clean, dehumidified air and desalinated drinking water as its output.

The SEAbreeze is definitely an ambitious design but it could be interesting if it’s ever produced. It was designed by Fanni Csernátony and is a 2013 Electrolux Design Lab semifinalist.

316 Liner: No More Rolling Pens

It’s annoying how pens roll off the edge of the table and fall to the ground. The designer 316 Liner pen eliminates this first-world problem though, with its unique cap.

The tip of the cap has a suction cup attached to it, so you can just stick your pen face-down onto the table or any other surface when you’re not using it. Think of it as performing the same functions as a pen holder, but minus the actual pen holder. Pretty neat, huh?

The 316 Liner was designed by Jeongbeom Han.

Octopus Couch is Perfect for Parties of Eight

So this isn’t really called the Octopus Couch, but it might as well be because this is exactly what a couch look like… if it drew inspiration from an octopus.

Designed by the Fernando and Humberto Campana, it’s actually called the Aster Papposus Sofa. But since none of us know what that really means, I think it’s safe to say that most people will liken their creation with an octopus.

Octopus Chair

The couch has eight plushy seats extending from the center. Eight more higher-level extensions emanate from the center to serve as arm rests for everyone who’s seated. It’s actually composed of two polyurethane and feather-filled cushions that have been fitted together to form the couch.

It doesn’t have a rigid frame, so it’s probably as comfortable as it appears to be (and as you imagine it to be!)

The Aster Papposus is priced at a whopping $71,633(USD).

McDonald’s Happy Table Turns Your Smartphone Into Digital Playgrounds

For years now, McDonald’s has thrown in a toy either promoting the release of a new film, cartoon series or just for the heck of it in their Happy Meals. Children and some adults have enjoyed playing with these toys for years, but they may be getting a huge upgrade if its latest experiment, called the Happy Table, actually makes it into McDonald’s restaurants.

The Happy Table requires the child, or adult, to have a smartphone that supports NFC capabilities along with a free application which will turn the device into a car driven by one of the fast-food chain’s famous mascots. The underside of the Happy Table will have a number of NFC stickers located at certain areas of the underside of the table, which are used to trigger hazards at different sections of the race track, but can also be used to trigger mini games.

Happy Tables are slowly making their way to McDonald’s restaurants across Asia, although it’s unknown at this time if or when they’ll be making their way to other markets. If it comes out in the U.S., we’re sure many of you will check it out at least once, to never go back to McDonald’s again at the realization just how awful you’ll feel after eating their food. Or, at least, that’s what will happen when I go.
