GameLogos Videogame Logo Archive: Title Shot

Do you miss playing one of your favorite games? Or have you played so many games that you can’t name them all? Perhaps you just want to kill time thinking about your favorite pastime? If you answered yes to any of those questions, head to GameLogos.

uncharted waters new horizons from gamelogos

Whoever runs GameLogos doesn’t discriminate. You’ll find logos from a variety of platforms and eras, from classics like Uncharted Waters: New Horizons to games that have yet to come out like Broken Age and mobile apps like Draw Something. And something called Call of Cookie. I must see what that’s about.

GameLogos is far from perfect: its only attempt at organization is through tags; it doesn’t even have a search box. Also for a site obsessed with logos its own logo is kinda plain. I’m sure some of you would rather look at cover art than logos alone. But like Please Press Start and other videogame archives, GameLogos is still a veritable time sink, especially if you’ve played through several generations of games. The fact that the blog scrolls endlessly helps too.

Luna iPhone Skin is Made from Concrete

If you love stuff that looks like it came from another celestial body, then you’ll be over the moon with the Luna iPhone skin. If they look particularly moony to you, then its designers were able to have it manufactured well then, because that’s what inspired its creation. The moon, I mean.

Luna Concrete Phone Case

This unusual iPhone skin was designed by Korean-based studio Posh Craft and Realize. Few materials can replicate the look and feel of the moon. One of these is concrete – and that’s exactly what they used for the Luna case.

The thin, but flexible concrete shell is pockmarked with miniature craters all over to mimic the moon’s surface, making each skin completely unique.

Industrial designers Jihye Kim and Changho Lee were the leaders of the design team that created the Luna. There’s no word yet on when you’ll be able to buy one for your iPhone.

Pot of Grass Pens: Prevent People from Stealing Your Pens, Once and For All

Do your pens go missing every once in a while, even though you’re sure you left them at your desk? Pen thieves are everywhere, especially at the office, so if you don’t take care and keep your stuff when they’re not in use, then chances are they’ll go missing once you leave your desk or cubicle.

My suggestion for your pens is to replace them with these ones. They look like blades of grass stuck in a plant pot, but remove one and you’ll see that it’s actually a pen in disguise.

Grass Pen

The pens come in three different shades of green to make it look like you’ve got actual grass in that pot. While people will eventually catch on that those are pens and not grass, they’ll still ward off would-be thieves because it would be extremely obvious if they go to work one day with a green grass pen in their pocket.

Each Pooleaf pen costs about $5 (USD), which means you’ll spend quite a bit if you want to fill an entire pot with them. They don’t come with the pot either, but those are easy to find anyway.

STAND Urinal: Don’t Pee in the Sink

Many people practice clean bathroom habits, but just as many are pretty nasty. Enter Kaspars Jursons’s redesign of the toilet, where he puts a sink on top of the urinal. Relieve yourself and immediately clean up. It puts the cleaning part right in your face. If you still don’t wash your hands after using this you have real problems.

The toilet is called STAND. It’s a great idea, but it would never work. People would be peeing in those sinks just for fun – and how clean can you really get with people’s aim being so bad, since it is so close to the urinal.

It’s just a concept, but not a terrible one. It just depends on people being respectable and not taking a whiz in the wrong section.

Eating In Concrete Tubes Is Not As Dystopian As It Sounds

Eating In Concrete Tubes Is Not As Dystopian As It Sounds

Pretty much anyone who walks into a bar or diner in a group is scanning for a booth. It’s just nicer to eat five plates of cheese fries in your own space. And the architects at Australian firm Techne clearly agree because they used concrete pipes to create seating spaces in the redesigned bar at Melbourne’s Prahran Hotel. Finally some privacy.

Who Needs Nails When You Can Meld Wood in a Vortex of Thread?

Most furniture has the business parts of its joints buried deep inside it somewhere. Screws hidden in hollow metal frames, screws driven deep into wood. The furniture made by Anton Alvarez wears its colorful thread joints on the outside. And the machine used to tie it all up is a beast.

A Raw Chicken Hand Towel Is So Gross and So Clever

A Raw Chicken Hand Towel Is So Gross and So Clever

The scariest thing in your kitchen—besides maybe the biggest, sharpest knives—is chicken juice; ain’t nobody want salmonella. And what better way to have fun with that fear than by having a hand towel that looks eerily similar to a slimey, raw chicken carcass? "Yeah, just rub this on your hands and everything will be fine."

Most Beautiful Items: July 6 - July 12, 2013

It’s July, so it’s hot as crap outside. In most parts of the country, it’s so balmy you’re sitting inside in your underwear with the freezer open trying to stay cool. But for a different kind of reprieve, here are some of the best design posts we found this week.
