Del Ben Primitive Knife: Cut Like Your Stone Age Ancestors Did

Cutting implements have been around since the Stone Age, but this is the first knife that I’ve seen that seeks to replicate the experience of using a flint tool. The simple design allows for multiple uses in the kitchen.

Created by Italian designer Michele Daneluzzo, the Del Ben Primitive Knife has got no obvious handle. Its entire leading edge is a blade. You can use it to delicately slice off the skin of fish or to hack and slash meat as well as veggies.

The top edge thickens into a rounded edge, making the knife easy to grasp, though one does have to wonder if the knife is more likely to slip out of your hand than one with a traditional handle.

The Primitive was designed by Michele while he was a student at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, but it’s being turned into a real product by Del Ben.

Bowers & Wilkins Z2 Wireless Speaker Dock: The Zeppelin’s Little Cousin

Wireless speakers are all the rage, and plenty of companies are trying to cash into the craze. Bowers & Wilkins just announced a smaller, less-expensive alternative to their popular Zeppelin Air wireless speaker.

The Bowers & Wilkins Z2 looks pretty nice, though the iconic torpedo shape of the Zeppelin has been replaced with something a bit more compact and versatile. It’s been upgraded with a Lightning dock for the iPhone 5. It also has AirPlay integration, which allows you to easily stream music across multiple units in different rooms from your iOS devices.

Sound comes from two driver units, aided by B&W’s Flowport system and class-D amps, and should have ample power to fill small- to medium-sized rooms.

The Z2 will retail for $400 (USD). A black version will be available in April while the white model will come in June.

CubeSensors: Track the Fitness of Your Home

While fitness sensors are cool, there are plenty of other uses for remote sensors. These environmental sensors allow you to keep track of indoor spaces in your home.

CubeSensors can record environment conditions and send them to the cloud, which will allow you to access them via any mobile device. An app sends you notifications about how to better tailor your environment for better productivity or comfort. Each cube can sense temperature, humidity, noise, light, air quality, barometric pressure, and even vibrations.

Never Worry About Cushion Crumbs Ever Again With Wireframe Furniture

Like a 3D model awaiting textures and rendering, these Pamela wireframe chairs and footrests created by Dem Bitantes only barely exist. Available from A. Garcia Crafts in a small sampling of colors, the pieces won’t collect crumbs, will never hide a TV remote, and if used outside won’t collect rain. The only downside is that if change happens to fall out of a visitors pocket, they’ll instantly know about it. More »

Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake Aerowagon: Grab Your Groceries at 190 MPH

There’s something about a nicely-designed station wagon. Maybe it’s because of all of the Audi Allroads I’ve been seeing, but they make appealing vehicles, especially if you have to lug a lot of stuff around and you don’t want a full-on SUV. That being said, if you’ve got the means, you can still go around with style and speed, thanks to the folks at Callaway Cars.

The Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake Aerowagon is based on the newly released 2014 ‘Vette, and it features are rear hatch that still manages to make the overall vehicle look quite aggressive. The body is constructed from a lightweight carbon fiber. It can still attain a top speed of 200 mph and it’s got enough room for your groceries in the back.

For now, this is just a concept, but their goal is to make this a $15,000 add-on for the 2014 Corvette. That’s actually not that bad, all things considered.

Alpaca Carbon Fiber Guitar Is Designed to Let You Rock out Anywhere

I’m not a musician. I never learned to play the guitar, although I tried when I was a kid. When I couldn’t go from beginner to full-on rock star in a month I gave it up. But despite my lack of musical ability, one thing I do know is that guitars can be pretty easily broken. If you’re the sort of person that likes to travel off the beaten path and keep your guitar handy, a fragile wooden guitar can be a problem. This is where a company called Alpaca steps in with its durable Carbon Fiber Travel Guitar.

Not only is carbon fiber lightweight, it’s also incredibly strong allowing the guitar to go anywhere the musician might want with the ability to withstand elements. In addition to carbon fiber, the guitar is created from flax fabric, and bio-derived resins.

Alpaca promises that this combination of materials creates an incredibly strong instrument that still offers a brilliant resonant sound. The guitar also has an embedded daisychain on the back giving a universal attachment to any of your outdoor gear, and its strap is made from rugged paracord. The Alpaca Guitar is built in the United States and will cost you $575(USD).

The only downside is that you can’t smash this thing on stage.

BMW Cruise Electric Bike Powers up

Whether it’s that extra push when you are climbing a hill, or you just want to cruise along with minimal effort, electric bikes have come a long way from their humble beginnings. Now, BMW has released the details of their upcoming e-bike, which looks pretty interesting.

The electric Cruise bicycle weighs 44lbs and has a pedal assist that’s capable of driving the bike 15.5 mph for a maximum range of 53 miles. The battery is mounted on the bike’s down tube, while its 250W Bosch motor is under the bottom bracket, which should give it a very low center of gravity, improving overall stability and maneuverability.

The bike offers with disc brakes and four modes of power assistance. Torque sensors will tell when the rider is delivering more power on hill climbs and contribute more power to assist the ascent to maintain speed. It’s also got a detachable computer showing speed, battery life and other information.

BMW plans on releasing only 1,000 bikes in Germany to test the market. There’s no release date yet and no price, but hopefully, if it’s successful, a more widely available BMW e-bike will be made.
