Translucent Mod Kit Exposes iPhone 5 Guts in All Its Naked Glory

We’ve seen transparent casemods or rear panels for past versions of the iPhone. Now it’s the iPhone 5′s turn to show off its goods, courtesy of the Translucent Mod Kit from iPhone5Mod, the same aftermarket shop who makes the magnetic keyboard and gamepad for the iPhone 5.

Aside from letting you see what your iPhone is made of, iPhone5mod claims that the kit’s plastic parts are more resistant to scratches and fingerprint smudge compared to the default aluminum rear panel. I’m not sure if it’s tough enough that you won’t need to cover your phone with a protective case though.

You can order the Translucent Mod Kit from iPhone5Mod for $40 (USD). As shown in the video above, the kit comes in seven colors; if you have extra money you can get all the available colors for $169. Keep in mind that the kit only comes with the parts and not the tools needed to actually install it on the iPhone 5, so you’d better know someone who can do it for you before you order the kit.

Headband Eyeglasses Serve Dual Purposes

There are plenty of different reasons why these eyeglasses are a great idea. For one, plenty of people don’t need to wear their glasses all of the time. So flipping them like this keeps them pretty handy. Also, there are people who already wear their glasses on their heads, despite not always holding in place very well.

Lookie Lous Headbands were developed by Kelly Coty. They can easily rest on users’ heads while not in use because they are flexible, smooth, and lightweight. When they flip down, they have a small notch cut into them so that they can rest comfortably on your nose.

They were principally designed to provide magnification for small print and UV protection, and  are available in a  magnification of 0, 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0. I wonder when you’ll be able to put in your normal prescription inside of these – that would really be very handy.

X-Wing Fighter Coffee Table: Stay on Target!

Alright kid, let’s blow this thing and go home… Check out this awesome X-Wing Fighter coffee table made from wood and glass. It looks stunning and it took Sean Regan and Aubrey Cohen 6 months to make it, carving it from a few hunks of wood.

I love how dimensional it is, because the top half and bottom half hold the glass between them. That makes it look pretty sweet and also keeps it sturdy. You can try to make one yourself if you want, but I doubt it will look half as good.

If you were to pay for it, at a cost of about $14 an hour, this would cost in the neighborhood of $60,500. You could probably buy a real X-Wing Fighter for that – at least a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Canapé Cactus Couch & Ottoman: Is It Getting Prickly in Here?

While they might have different upholstery, most sofas and couches look pretty similar. From time to time, though, you come across something very different. This cactus couch is definitely unusual, because cacti usually don’t make good sitting places.

The Canapé Cactus Couch was part of the Isn’t It Romantic exhibition at MAKK in Köln, Germany. The Paris-based Italian designer Maurizio Galante made up a variety of prickly-printed sofas, couches, and ottomans. But rather than using actual cacti, these succulents are printed on “bio-elastic” fabric.

The exhibition runs until April 21, 2013. If he ever ends up selling them, I’m betting they’d be much more comfortable than actual cacti.
