If you were driving through the remote Guadalupe Valley in Baja, you might mistake it for an ancient, dried-up port town: A cavalcade of overturned boats scattered across the desert like whale skeletons. In fact, this is Vena Cava Winery, and those old boats house its production facilities.

Can you imagine how many busted washing machines there are in the world? We need to start doing something with all of those parts. The art studio L’Atelier d’Orel is on the case. They upcycle all kinds of old objects into fresh artful pieces of furniture.
Some of these projects include taking the spinning drums from washing machines and turning them into coffee tables and bar cabinets. And they look fantastic. The artist even offers workshops on how to make these yourself. They look really impressive considering what they are made from.
So if you have a broken down washing machine, get to work and make something cool.
When you think of a digital watch, you can probably picture the simple boxy numbers created by a traditional segmented LCD display. This Script Watch uses the same technique—an LCD display broken up into static segments that can only be turned on or off—but manages to display the time as if a talented calligrapher just penned it onto your wrist.

Their design is mostly functional as is, but until now no one has really stopped to ask if the handles on the back of a wheelchair could be improved. It turns out the answer is yes—an emphatic yes, in fact—given how useful these ergonomic alternatives appear to be.

Ride a bike, slice a pizza. You won’t be able to do this on a regular bike, but you will be able to do so using one of these clever bicycle wheel pizza cutters. Your fingers will be the ones doing the riding though, unless you’re the size of Alice after she drank the potion from the bottle with the “Drink Me” label.
There’s a black and yellow version for guys, and a light blue and pink version for girls. Or, you know, vice versa, considering how everyone’s just mixing things up these days and I’m finding more girls like black instead of pink.
Each bicycle pizza cutter features double sharp cut discs. In short, the wheels are the ones that are doing all of the cutting.

Beautiful arches, like the art deco skeletal system of a lost urban era, can be found throughout New York City, from Grand Central Terminal to bars and restaurants. Created with tiles by the Spanish father-and-son duo, Rafael Guastavino and his junior namesake, these structures were also marvels of artistic engineering, combining intricate brickwork with functional arrays of vaults and pillars, all leading to a kind of Mediterranean dreamworld of colonnades "hidden in plain sight," as a new exhibition suggests, around the city.
