Wallbrights: A Thousand Decals in One

We’ve featured a number of awesome geeky wall decals and posters, but if you want to see something new everyday you might want to help Wallbrights become a real product. It’s a modular stick-on multicolored lighting solution that can be controlled via an app.

The concept involves small strips or hexagons that house diffused LEDs. The modules are attached to each other via male and female connectors. The idea is to piece together as many modules as you want, with one module close to a power outlet so you can connect it to its power adapter, which also serves as a Bluetooth receiver. You can then toggle the lights on or off or change their colors using an app from a Bluetooth-enabled mobile device.

Quirky is currently conducting a survey to determine the marketability of Wallbrights. I think it’s a really cool concept, although it would be better if they could also be used to display pictures or messages.

Vintage Campers Make Happy Campers out of Every Bird

These days, the conventional and traditional birdhouse might not be enough for our avian friends who want their homes to get an upgrade.

Wood-worker Jumahl was happy to oblige and he designed what looks to be a vintage camper for birds.

Bird CampersDon’t they look grand? They’re not just for aesthetics either, because the miniature aluminum door also acts as a deterrent to squirrels. They’re available in a variety of colors, but it looks like bird lovers have snatched up most of them, leaving only the turquoise ones in stock.

The vintage camper bird houses feature a slide out bottom for easy cleaning and they’re constructed from durable and stable marine grade plywood so they’ll last longer in the great outdoors.

They’re priced at $60(USD) and are available from  Jumahl’s Etsy shop.

LG tells the story behind QSlide multitasking, won't be mad if you tweet at the same time (video)

LG’s been stepping up its mobile game recently, with the Optimus G being the firm’s clearest display of podium-position ambitions yet. And just like its regional neighbors, it’s getting in on the “explaining-ideas-behind-concepts” video action. In this clip we see senior research engineer, Sebastian Hochan Song, explain the inspiration and process behind the new phone’s QSlide multitasking function. Again, like its fellow Korean nationals, nature and the real world play a heavy part in the idea process. Head past the break if you want to see LG’s thoughts about pushing Android multitasking forward, and keep an eagle eye out for one of our very own editors’ quick cameo appearance.

Trampoline Bridge in Paris Would Make Crossing the River Fun Again

I’ve always had a fascination with bridges ever since I was a kid, all thanks to the rhyme that went ‘London bridge is falling down…’ Now that I think of it, it’s a sad rhyme and what does it have to do with the fair lady?

Anyway, that fascination wore off when I realized that bridges were just, you know, bridges. But I think this concept for a trampoline bridge in Paris (called ‘A Bridge in Paris’ – stating the obvious, I know) might have just brought the joy back to bridges!

Basically, the picture says it all. To let everyone experience the ‘joyful release from gravity’, the AZC Architecture Studio designed the bridge using three gigantic trampolines that would be connected with massive inflatable tubes.

Now that’s one bridge that I’d like to keep crossing all day long.

Of course, they don’t quite explain how they’d keep people from flying off the thing and landing in the River Seine.

You’ll Lust Over Porsche’s Laser Cut Pen More Than Its Cars

There’s no love lacking for Porsche’s high-performance vehicles, but compared to Lamborghinis or Ferraris, they don’t always have that wow factor. At least not like the office supplies the company designs. The P’3115 LaserFlex pen from Porsche Design has a laser-cut interlocking stainless steel body that expands and contracts when the ballpoint tip is deployed. More »
