Only Pet Poop Can Be Disposed in the Curve Trash Bin

A lot of pet owners have the nasty habit of not cleaning up after their animals. It’s annoying, it’s impolite, and it’s especially irritating to the people who end up stepping on the dog doo. Some countries have resorted to setting up separate bins for people to dispose of their dog’s wastes, but many mistake it as being a regular old trash can and instead fill it up with all sorts of other trash, leaving no room for its intended contents.

So to solve this problem, Ben Koros came up with the Curve trash bin concept. It looks like a typical trash can, only its fitted with a cover that’s got a special, curved slot that pet owners have to trace with their packages of pet poop before they can drop it into the bin. This way, other larger-sized trash like bottles or cans won’t fit and fill the Curve bin up, and it’ll also keep the stinky bags of poo deep inside the bin.

Poo Curve Disposal

Koros says: “The user must pick up the poo, place it in a plastic bag (biologically degradable plastic bags included on the Curve), and lead it through a curvy gap on the top, to be able to dump it.”

It’s a smart idea, and hopefully, we’ll start to see the Curve trash bin pop up at parks and on city streets in the near future.

SAVE:US Gives You Light When You Most Need It

Disaster can strike at any given moment. There are measures that you, as an individual, can take to increase your chances of survival. There are also some fixtures that firms can choose to install in their offices to up their employees’ survival rate as well.

One of these is the SAVE:US Emergency Light.

Save Us Emergency LightIt’s basically an overhead light in normal situations. But in cases of emergency, people can simply pull down a removable torch that they can use to get around the area or fire off SOS signals when they need help.

Each torch is also equipped with a GPS system, so trapped victims can signal for help, making it easier for rescue teams to locate them.

SAVE:US is a 2011 Red Dot design concept winner and was designed by Jo Joo Hyun, Choi Sung Hun, Jin Min Hee & Park So Jeing. While there are no current plans to put it into production, it seems like a good enough idea to consider it.

Wacom outs the Cintiq 24HD touch, adds multitouch controls and more to its largest pen display

Hot off the heels of the more modest Wacom Cintiq 22HD’s introduction, the outfit has announced a new version of its 24HD pen display as well. Labeled the 24HD touch, the upcoming offering adds multi-touch functionality to the company’s 24-inch input device — just as the name would suggest. The added features don’t stop there. A touch-enabled 24HD also touts an improved display that shows 1.07 billion colors while covering 97% of Adobe’s RGB gamut and implementing RGB backlighting that improves on-screen color rendition. Similar to the sans-touch offering, you can expect to utilize Express Keys and Touch Rings to customize your workflow for maximum efficiency in addition to the touchscreen. When the 24HD touch hits shelves, it’ll play nice with Windows 8 and will work just fine without installing drivers. In order to customize those pricey multi-touch commands, though, you’ll need the requisite software.

If you splurged for the regular ol’ 24HD, we can understand your frustration. However, Wacom says that it intended for the touch model to be released at the same time as the pen-only version, but the development took a bit longer than anticipated. Part of the reason for the delay was the extra time needed to perfect features like palm rejection in the kit’s software. The peripheral company also hopes that software developers will take the gesture tech and create features that will showcase its full range of potential — your move, Adobe. Itchin’ to snag one already? Well, you’ll have to wait until sometime in August to get your hands on this model and be prepared to shell out $3699 for the pen display ($1100 more than the previous release). Like other watches that light up using LED or OLEDs, the Touch Skin needs to be activated by a touch to display the time – presumably to save on battery.

The watch would adjusts its time automatically, via radio, and the design calls for it to be charged wirelessly via the gift box it comes packaged in.

The Touch Skin watch is just a concept right now but it will hopefully enter production at some point in the future. For now, you’ll just have to settle for your iPod nano.

Take a Break in a Floating Tea House [Architecture]

This backyard tea house designed by David Jameson in Maryland is Japanese-inspired, but it’s not the architecture from centuries that’s doing the influencing. Instead, the modern structure—which implements steel beams, glass, and a healthy dose of wood—takes its cues from a Japanese lantern, made evident by fact that it’s suspended from the metal above. The only thing that could possibly make this even more fantastic (by way of serenity), is if it would slowly rock you to sleep after your tea date. [Architizer] More »
