HTC Desire X officially announced

It wasn’t too long ago that we saw the HTC Desire X’s photos leaked, and while this might not be the rumored 5” HTC device that some of you guys were looking forward to, it might still be of interest to those who wouldn’t mind getting their hands on a entry level-ranged device, a pretty good looking one at that. Based on the official press shots, it certainly looks like the Desire X is a mini version of the One X, although under the hood it is only sport a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 4GB of internal storage. It will also pack a 4” SLCD display, a 5MP rear-facing camera, Sense 4.1, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and Beats Audio Integration. It is scheduled for release in Europe and Asia in September, although there is no word on when it will be making its way to the US. So, any takers?

HTC Desire X hands-on (video)

HTC Desire X handson

Earlier this year, HTC spent much of its mobile bombast on that other major European conference: MWC. But that doesn’t mean the company showed up to Berlin empty handed. In a closed door session today, the company demoed a flagship of sorts: the Desire X. The 4-inch handset, just recently announced, may look familiar — that’s because it lifts distinctive elements of the premium One series for a decidedly upscale spin on an entry-level device. With an 800 x 480 Super LCD display, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 8255 running Sense 4.1 atop Ice Cream Sandwich and a 5-megapixel rear shooter enhanced by the outfit’s ImageChip, this first-timer device is anything, but average. Curious to see how this top-shelf budget phone fared in our testing? Then follow along after the break for some initial impressions.

HTC Desire X announced: Android 4.0 on a 4-inch Super LCD screen

HTC is keeping a low profile at IFA 2012 this week but it does have at least one phone to reveal to the throng of tech journalists and writers making their way around Berlin, the Desire X (formerly Proto). It’s a humbler new handset for the Taiwanese manufacturer and one whose outer hardware has already toured China. It’s now been mildly adjusted (that is, improved) with one of Qualcomm’s lower-end Snapdragon S4 processors, clocked at 1GHz, while it keeps that 4-inch touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, Beats Audio integration and 4GB of storage we saw earlier. There’s also an extra 25 gigs of free cloud storage courtesy of Dropbox, while the camera packs the same capabilities as One series devices including HDR capture, continuous shooting and the ability to capture video and stills at the same time. The device will launch across as-yet unconfirmed countries in Europe and Asia starting next month — and we’ll have a hands-on for you later today.

Images Of HTC Desire X (Proto) Leaked

One of the most-anticipated devices from HTC is the HTC Desire X. The device is expected to be unveiled during IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany. A recent leak hinted at the specifications of the device which include a 4” Super LCD Display with WVGA resolution, a 5-megapixel camera and 1GHz dual core processor.

Other purposed specs of the device include 768MB RAM, 4GB ROM, 25 GB of Dropbox space for 2 years and Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be part of the device right out of the box and not as an update. It will also come equipped with HTC Image Sense chip and a microSD memory card slot. (more…)

HTC Proto goes under spycam, reveals secret identity: the Desire X

HTC Desire X

It seems the newest member of HTC’s mid-range smartphone line-up — previously known as the Proto — is actually the Desire X, according to several Scandinavian retailers (see coverage). Also, Hong Kong blog ePrice, who gave the new model the blurrycam treatment, claims that the specs line up with all the rumors: a 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0, Beats Audio, dual-core 1GHz processor and 5-megapixel camera. HTC should formally out the phone this week at IFA, but its European presence and similarity to the China-only New Desire V means it’s likely an international version — without the continental sticker shock.
