Destiny’s Character Classes And Races Detailed

Destinys Character Classes And Races DetailedThe other day we reported that Bungie’s upcoming game, Destiny, was shown off in a character development video, and now thanks to Eurogamer, they have revealed the different character classes and races that gamers will be able to choose from within the game. Starting off with the rather standard Human race, there is also the Awoken race which was apparently designed with vampires and elves in mind, and there’s also the Exo, which was inspired by Bungie’s Master Chief from Halo (pictured above), and are described as being war machines and were inspired by looking at undead characters, and even The Terminator.

In addition to the three races, gamers will be able to choose between three different fighting styles: Titans, which are more gun-heavy tank-like characters, Hunters who sound like mercenary type characters, and lastly Warlocks who are apparently considered “space wizards”, whatever that means. It definitely sounds pretty interesting and exciting and we can’t wait to see how the game actually plays. In the meantime additional details and pictures can be found at Eurogamer, so head on over for the details.

Bungie’s Destiny Shown Off In New Character Development Video

It was this past winter when Bungie finally unveiled their first multi-platform game, Destiny, and considering what an excellent job they did with its Halo franchise, you can expect many first-person shooter fans to highly anticipate the game’s release. At this week’s Game Developer’s Conference, Bungie showed off a new video for Destiny highlighting the game’s character development so far.

Considering how tight-lipped Bungie has been in regards to Destiny so far, this character development video is just what gamers need in order to attempt to understand what exactly is going on in the game. In the video, you’ll see a number of classes that will be available to play as in the game, and what we assume to be some of the different species you’ll come across in the game. You’ll see a number of concept art, 3D models and even getting to see some of the models moving about. (more…)

Bungie Reassures Gamers Over Destiny’s Always-On Requirement

Bungie Reassures Gamers Over Destinys Always On RequirementAfter the huge fuss many gamers kicked up over the launch of SimCity and its always-on requirement, we guess that managed to grab the attention of developers, such as Bungie whose upcoming game, Destiny, will also require an always-on connection. While it’s hard to say if Bungie will be able to launch their game without much fuss, the developers have taken it upon themselves to try and reassure fans that when Bungie launches, they will not face the same debacle that games such as Diablo 3 and SimCity had to go through.

When asked by a gamer if Bungie would be ready for the “onslaught of players on Destiny’s release day”, Bungie replied by saying, “This isn’t our first rodeo. Bungie is no stranger to anxious mobs of players who rush home after a midnight launch and put our best-laid plans to the test. Since a release date hasn’t even been announced yet, we’ll let our team focus on some less frightening but equally important challenges.” While it sounds reassuring, Blizzard has plenty of experience as well with games like World of Warcraft and having been operating its Battle.net service for over a decade.

In any case we hope that Bungie will be able to deliver as promised, but what do you guys think? Will they succeed or do you think that games with always-on requirements are subject to teething problems in its early stages and that it is to be expected?

Bungie's Destiny headed to the PlayStation 4 with exclusive content

It wasn’t clear if Bungie’s 10-year project was headed to a next-gen console, but now the developer has made it official: Destiny is headed to the PlayStation 4. Gamers hoping to pick up the PS4 version of the title aren’t in store for an extra-long wait either, as it’ll be available at the same time the PlayStation 3 flavor launches. In order to sweeten the pot for fans of Sony’s gaming console, Bungie’s also promising “exclusive playable content just for the PlayStation community.”

Bungie Announces Sci-Fi Video Game Destiny

The creators of the incredibly popular Halo franchise have announced a new project they are working on called Destiny. The video game will introduce players to an epic science fiction universe, including a persistent online world filled with sweeping adventures.

destiny

Destiny promises to combine a first-person action game with persistent, dynamic world – offering console players a connected living world they can explore combined with social spaces where they can congregate and celebrate achievements. The game will allow players to adventure as a group or alone.

The game will be set in the distant future with players acting as guardians of the last city on Earth. Players will explore the ruins of our solar system from Mars to Venus and battle enemies of humankind to reclaim what was lost during the collapse of mankind’s Golden Age.

Destiny is being published by Activision and is tentatively planned for a December 31 release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. It is rumored to be a launch title for the Xbox 720 and/or the PS4 as well. Sadly, there is no mention of a PC version at this point.

Halo creators unveil ‘Destiny,’ an MMO-like first-person-shooter for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Halo creators unveil 'Destiny,' an MMOlike firstpersonshooter for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

When Halo creator Bungie managed to steal away from Microsoft back in 2007, Master Chief’s forefathers were afforded a few years to go dark and head down on a brand new gaming universe. Today, Bungie and its new benefactor, Activision, revealed that new franchise as “Destiny,” an online-required persistent world first-person shooter. Even though the game’s not due out this year, Bungie says it’s headed to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with no mention of next-gen.

The online requirement extends to both single-player and multiplayer campaigns — your character’s achievements remain persistent, and your avatar will seamlessly populate friends’ games (rather than futzing with menus and the like), allowing for on-the-fly pairings. Bungie’s shying away from outright referring to Destiny as an MMO, a la World of Warcraft. “[The] amount of players you see is design controlled. It’s not about stuffing as many people in there as possible,” Bungie COO Pete Parsons told our sister site, Joystiq. Of course, with next-gen sounding online connectivity, Bungie’s silence on next-gen consoles is little more than a temporary vow — Destiny seems a lock for (at very least) Sony and Microsoft’s next consoles, if not also the PC (Wii U’s looking unlikely).

Hard details on Destiny are a bit scarce at the moment — when it launches, if it’s part of a series, how exactly the game will work — but we’ve dropped concept art below and a debut video just beyond the break. The video goes into a bit more detail on the universe, and briefly touches on the smartphone tie-in that Destiny will have (think Halo Waypoint), but for a more exhaustive approach to Destiny‘s debut, Joystiq‘s got you covered.

Update: In Activision’s official PR, Destiny is listed as heading to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and, “other future console platforms.”

Bungie Reveals Destiny Official Screenshot

The folks behind the hugely successful Halo series on the Xbox platform from Microsoft (save for the latest Halo 4 which was done by 343 Industries), Bungie, has just released an official screenshot of their upcoming game, where rumors have said it will be called Destiny. The screenshot was posted on Bungie’s official site, and this arrived as a response to a leaked marketing document which was reportedly leaked to to IGN by a reader, who then released some details on the story arc as well as concept art. I like this kind of thinking – you just combat leaks in a game with official information, and folks would flock to the official site.

IGN claims that Bungie did confirm the authenticity of the document, where it was prepared by an advertising agency, and it delivered authentic details which surround the game’s plot. Bungie mentioned, “We weren’t quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we’ve really been up to.Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.”

Destiny is said to be a fun and accessible game, where it sports a “deep, tangible and relatable” universe which, in their words, is comparable to the Star Wars franchise. Hmmm, that is a pretty high calling, don’t you think so?
