Electronic Arts and Disney announced a multi-year agreement today that will see future Star Wars video games exclusively developed and published by EA. This news comes a little over a month after the house of mouse made the decision to stop internal development at LucasArts. EA’s developers scheduled to take on the Star Wars universe include DICE (Battlefield), Visceral (Dead Space) and BioWare, the latter of which will continue development of its already released Star Wars MMO (The Old Republic). The financial terms of the agreement have yet to be disclosed, but EA will create games for a “core gaming audience” while Disney will produce casual titles for mobile and social outlets. Now that the force is strong with EA, our fingers are crossed for a new installment in the KOTOR franchise.

Battlefield 4 Developer DICE Might Be Considering Dinosaur-Themed DLCs [Rumor]

DLCsBattlefield 4 Developer DICE Might Be Considering Dinosaur Themed DLCs [Rumor] seem to be the rage these days as one of the ways game developers can get gamers to pay for additional content, such as maps, additional quests, items and so on, but for the most part the DLCs do keep to theme of the game. Battlefield 4 developer, DICE, on the other hand might be looking to deviate from tradition, at least that’s what the rumors are saying for now. According to NeoGAF user, Jibbajabbawockky, he claims to have taken part in a poll conducted by DICE asking them for their thoughts about potential new features.

For the most part the poll seemed to be more or less standard fare, until they asked about potential DLC packs in which the poll allegedly asked the participant if they might be interested in a co-op mode in which players team up with each other to fight dinosaurs with bows and arrows in hand, along with other primitive-type weapons! Some potential names for this DLC included “BF 4: BC”, “BF 4: Primal Combat”, and “BF 4: 21942 BC”. It sounds a little ridiculous, but bear in mind that this is a rumor so take it with a grain of salt, but what do you guys think? Would a dinosaur co-op game using Battlefield 4 graphics sound like something you might be interested in?

Next Mass Effect, Dragon Age 3 Will Use Battlefield 4 Engine

Were you as amazed as we were by Battlefield 4′s 17 minutes of gameplay footage EA & DICE released yesterday? We know you’re probably already putting money aside to pick up Battlefield 4 when it’s released this fall, but you might want to open your wallets a little bit wider for when the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age are announced.

BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynn revealed on his Twitter yesterday both the Dragon Age 3: Inquisition and the next Mass Effect will be using DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine, which was the same engine Battlefield 4 was built on. Unfortunately, DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine currently doesn’t support the Wii U, which means you probably shouldn’t expect to see it on that console for some time. (more…)

DICE+ Is An Innovative Controller

DICE+ Is An Innovative ControllerJust when you thought that the innovation of video game controllers have more or less leveled off to a certain extent with the Wii U, here we are with an innovative controller, if you may call it so, known as the DICE+. Thanks to European company Game Technologies, the Bluetooth-enabled DICE+’s official website has just been launched, and they want game developers to come on board in order to develop digital board games for tablets, supplying a developer’s kit for both iOS and Android platforms alongside a special edition DICE+ unit that sports a clear housing.

The DICE+ would comprise of six sides, making it look like any other regular six-sided die, where some of the features found within include an accelerometer, a magnetic field sensor, Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.0 compatibility, independent touch-sensitive faces, half a dozen LEDs which are able to glow in a variety of colors, a battery life of 20 hours, a microUSB port for charging purposes, and a thermometer. The DICE+ will feature seven pre-loaded games that will come with the full launch, and those who sign up for the $99 developer’s kit will also be able to gain access to the SDK so that they can attempt to create DICE+ compatible games.

EA reveals Battlefield 4 headed to PC this fall, refuses to confirm next-gen (video)

Battlefield 4 arrives this fall, heading to PC and probably nextgen

This year’s Battlefield series entry — Battlefield 4 — is headed to PCs this fall. The game wasn’t given other platforms, but logic dictates it’ll arrive on the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 successor. Apparently, since only Sony’s next-gen console is a known quantity and Microsoft’s staying mum, EA isn’t sharing other platforms yet (but hey, it’s probably PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox). The game’s being built on the latest iteration of DICE’s Frostbite engine, though no other details were given about the engine just yet.

Like previous Battlefield entries, EA-owned Swedish game studio DICE is at the helm, and Battlefield 4 remains planted in current times (unlike the pseudo-future of Call of Duty‘s latest entry, Black Ops 2). A beta for the game will go live some time this fall, and folks who bought last year’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter are automatically part of said beta. We’ll have more info as EA offers it up, but color us not surprised if Battlefield 4 makes a reprise appearance at Microsoft’s still undated Xbox 360 successor unveiling.

Update: EA also released a 17-minute gameplay demo of the game’s prologue section, played on a PC. It features a squad of four soldiers on the run from Russian spec-ops militants in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. You’ll find it just beyond the break.

Update 2: Per a listing on EA’s digital store, Battlefield 4 is headed to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in addition to the PC. PlayStation 4 is curiously missing, as is mention of Microsoft’s next-gen game console.
