Dandelions have already been more generous to humans than we ingrates
deserve. While we spend our spring-times trying to stamp them out of our yards, many revere the weeds as a source of vitamins and minerals essential to a variety of physiological functions. Now, agricultural engineers are cultivating the dandelion for a new purpose….
You may have noticed that when a relative or friend is hopitalized for a
heart attack, respiratory failure, serious infection, or any serious
illness that impacts the body’s vital organs, they may return home somewhat
mentally diminished. They may seem foggy or confused, they don’t
remember familiar people, or they have difficulty making simple
decisions. Your relative or friend is not alone.
I was a smoker for
several years. I eventually gave it up
due to an odd habit that I have of thinking with my fingers over my mouth and
nose. The smell-rather like a flesh
ashtray-was just nasty. That and my
finger tips were yellow. But I have to admit
that the Vapourlites electronic cigarettes have a certain appeal for me.
The bathroom renovation of the future will include more than just new
technology. New innovations will include more customizable and
programmable features than ever. Connected bathrooms will be the norm,
as toilets automatically open and shut or clean themselves. Potentially
offensive or embarrassing odors and noises will be a thing of the past.
Your connected scale and toothbrush might monitor your hygiene habits or
send reports straight to your doctor and dentist. Nope, not creepy at
all. So take a look at what’s coming soon:
Memories Connected With Addiction And PTSD May Be Erased With New Discovery
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhile memory is essential to all life forms, some specific memories
are not essential. Memories that are very painful and those that lead
us to do things that are harmful to us, like drinking alcohol to excess
or taking drugs… if those memories could be erased, we could stop some
very destructive, life-disruptive diseases, like addiction and
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from taking hold of our lives.
Scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) may have found a way
to remove those harmful memories without damaging other memories or the
ability to form new ones.
