Rock Band’s last downloadable song will be Don McLean’s “American Pie”

Developer Harmonix announced last month that continued DLC content for Rock Band would be ending in April, and that time is slowly approaching, sadly. The developer has announced the last song to come off the Rock Band DLC assembly line, which will be Don McLean’s 1971 classic “American Pie”. The song will be available for download on April 2.

Of course, “American Pie” is one of the greatest songs out there that you can use to signify an ending to something, although my love for 90s rock says that Semisonic’s “Closing Time” is also up there on the list. Either way, Rock Band gamers will be able to sing off the weekly DLC of the game come early next month.

This marks the end to an over 275 consecutive week run consisting of more than 4,000 songs that have been released on Rock Band for gamers to play along with. The song was announced at PAX East during a party hosted by Harmonix. The developer also said that the song they’ll be releasing will be the full 8-minute version.

Harmonix says they have several new titles in development, and they want to start putting more focus on those in the future, which means that they have to give up some of their time and resources from other games, and Rock Band just so happened to get the ax this time around. No further plans for Rock Band have been discussed, but we’re guessing the series will be no more after the ending of the DLC.

Assassin’s Creed 3: The Betrayal DLC Arrives

Assassin’s Creed 3: The Betrayal DLC ArrivesThe Betrayal – a name that is more often than not associated with those who walk in the corridors of power, but this time around it has a whole lot less to do with politics, and leans more towards the side of gaming. Assassin’s Creed 3, a game that has already picked up its fair share of bouquets from the gaming masses, has just received The Betrayal, which is the second chapter in the game’s The Tyranny of King Washington single-player DLC series.

The Betrayal is made available via PSN, and here goes the background story. Trapped in captivity by the vicious King Washington, Ratonhnhaké:ton has to do his bit and summon all ingenuity to free himself and look for assistance in overthrowing Washington’s ruthless machinations. Just like the Power of the Wolf, Power of the Eagle also has a couple of different uses, where it lets Ratonhnhaké:ton soar from one location to another quickly and invisibly as a ghostly eagle, as well as the offensive Eagle Strike that lets you power dive into a foe.

Halo 4 Castle Map Pack Adds 3 New Maps, 6v6 Playlist On April 8

Halo 4′s Majestic Map Pack was the last piece of DLC content released by 343 studios, which was released just a few weeks ago. Before the game released, Microsoft had promised three additional map packs would be released, and today, we’re hearing some information regarding the final map pack, called Castle.

The Castle Map Pack for Halo 4 will add three new maps as well as a 6 vs. 6 playlist when it’s released. The three maps included in the Castle Map Pack are called Daybreak, Outcast and Perdition. The Daybreak map takes place in the middle of military facilities which includes an idyllic mountain range while Outcast has players fighting through the tunnels and arches of a secluded rebel outpost. The final map, Perdition, takes the multiplayer mayhem into the heart of an urban battleground. (more…)

Angry Birds Trilogy “Fowl Tempered” DLC out now with 135 new levels

Angry Birds Trilogy for the PlayStation 3 Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS has received its second DLC pack titled “Fowl Tempered.” It features a whopping 135 new levels that are based on the game’s episodes Back to School, Bad Piggies, and Haunted Hogs. The DLC pack also features a new bird named Stella, who can trap enemies in pink bubbles and carry them away.

This is the second DLC pack for Angry Birds Trilogy, the first of which was the “Anger Management” DLC pack, which added 130 levels to the console game back in December. It also added new cutscenes and new orange bird that inflates. Angry Birds Trilogy was released in September for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo 3DS, with versions for the Wii and Wii U coming later this year.

The new DLC pack is available now for the Xbox 360 and PS3 at a price of 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99 on the PlayStation Network. No word on whether or not the DLC will come to the 3DS, but seeing as how Activsion only released “Anger Management” for PS3 when it initially launched, we doubt that 3DS users will get this second pack.

While the console version of the game is still a paid game, Rovio recently made the iOS version of Angry Birds free. You can download the game now on iOS and save yourself a dollar (or a few dollars if you’re getting the iPad version). Rovio also launched Angry Birds Space on Steam today for $3.99.

Of all the games are launching early in 2013, BioShock Infinite is certainly one of the most anticipated. Mass Effect 3 Receiving Two New DLC Packs On Feb. 26, Mar. 5

Mass Effect 3 Receiving Two New DLC Packs On Feb. 26, Mar. 5

There hasn’t been an ending to a game as controversial as Mass Effect 3′s as BioWare had to go back and deliver an extended cut DLC in order to calm its rabid fans from completely destroying the Internet. New pieces of DLC have been published for the game over the past couple of months after the release of Mass Effect 3, and today, EA is announcing two pieces of DLC for the game.

The first DLC is called Mass Effect 3: Reckoning and is a completely free piece of DLC content that can be used in the game’s multiplayer mode to access new character, weapons and upgrades. EA didn’t specify what those would be, but they did say it would be available on February 26, so we guess we’ll all learn at the same time once it’s released. (more…)
