Vuzix And NTT DoCoMo Will Feature M100 Smart Glasses At CEATEC 2013

Vuzix And NTT DoCoMo Will Feature M100 Smart Glasses At CEATEC 2013Vuzix and NTT DoCoMo will team up at CEATEC 2013 that is set to happen next week, where they will let the curious masses check out the M100 smart glasses. That would certainly give the folks over at Google something to think about, wouldn’t you say so? The M100 smart glasses is set to roll out later in the year, so to have it featured at Japan’s biggest electronics show makes us wish that CEATEC 2013 would start tomorrow so that we can lay our hands on it.

Vuzix President and CEO Paul Travers said, “We’re very excited to have our M100 featured by NTT DoCoMo at the largest electronics show in Japan. Over the years we have built a growing presence in Japan and we are pleased to have a developer and customer relationship now with the largest mobile service provider in Japan, NTT DoCoMo. Both Vuzix and NTT DoCoMo believe the smart glasses market in Japan has the potential to develop into a multi-billion dollar opportunity for the providers of wearable tech hardware, software, and of course network operators.”

It would be interesting to see just what kind of apps that the folks over at NTT DoCoMo would have come up with, and whether the M100 will be able to break out from just being a potential hit in the Japan market alone. [Press Release]

Microsoft Rumored To Unveil New Surface Tablets Soon

Microsoft Rumored To Unveil New Surface Tablets SoonIt seems that on September 23rd, Microsoft is not going to hold back on the upcoming Surface 2 range of tablets, and the folks over at Neowin have managed to pick up some vital information concerning such tablets, as well as the different accessories that these tablets will come with, courtesy of some alleged insider information.

Apparently, Microsoft has had plans for an updated Type Cover which should most probably arrive in a range of colors for the first time. So far, Neowin has managed to get hold of blue and purple Type covers, and who are we to say that there will be no other different colors down the road? After all, to churn all of these out in a bevy of rainbow shades is a simple matter considering how one just needs to spray the plastic with a new color. Apart from that, there are also whispers of a white/silver Surface 2, although it remains to be seen whether this is a result of a prototype, or is it yet another brand new color that will hit the market.

The press-only event that is set to happen tomorrow will also include another peripheral or two which has been making its way around the rumor mills, although there is nothing more concrete to continue from there. All in all, we just have to sit tight and stay tuned!

NTT DoCoMo to demonstrate its version of 5G at CEATEC in October

NTT DoCoMo to demonstrate its version of 5G at CEATEC in October

NTT DoCoMo’s LTE-Advanced network may still be in its infancy, but the company’s already preparing for when 150 Mbps is considered slow. Many are looking towards the next-generation of mobile broadband, and DoCoMo has said its ready to reveal its very own 5G “concept” at the CEATEC conference in Japan next month. We don’t know if the company is referring to the monstrous 10 Gbps link that has competitor KDDI scratching its head, but “incredible speed, high capacity and low latency” are promised features. In addition, DoCoMo will preview its “winter 2013 / spring 2014” handset line-up and show off work it’s been doing in the augment-reality and wearable spaces. We’ll be around to browse the booth, of course, and dream of a time when streaming native 4K content over 5G to 21-inch smartphones will be standard.

    [Thanks, Erwan]

DoCoMo Reportedly Promised 40 Percent Quota Of Sales For New iPhones

DoCoMo Reportedly Promised 40 Percent Quota Of Sales For New iPhones

It was announced earlier this month that Japan’s largest mobile carrier, NTT DoCoMo, has signed a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone on its network. Its two major rivals, KDDI and SoftBank, already offer the iPhone. The carrier reportedly lost quite a lot of subscribers because it wasn’t offering Apple’s popular smartphone. A new report from Nikkei suggests that DoCoMo has promised that 40 percent of all of its smartphone sales will be accounted for by the new iPhones.

It has only been a couple of days since Apple announced iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. Both new iPhones will be launched in Japan on September 20th, which is the initial launch date for the smartphones. DoCoMo has nearly 60 million subscribers, which makes it the largest carrier in Japan. It previously was at an impasse with Apple, the carrier reportedly wanted to install its own specific apps on the iPhone before selling them and Apple was not allowing that. iPhones don’t usually come with “bloatware,” the kind you’ll find on phones from other manufacturers. It has not been revealed how both parties came to an agreement. Analysts believe that Apple might end up shipping an additional 35 million iPhone units due to its deal with DoCoMo and China Mobile, though a deal with the latter, which is the world’s largest mobile carrier, is yet to be confirmed.

Fujitsu F-07E Uses FPC Fingerprint Technology

Fujitsu F 07E Uses FPC Fingerprint TechnologyWhat makes the Fujitsu F-07E so special? Well, it so happens to be the first smartphone that will rely on FPC fingerprint technology, and it has been launched by Fujitsu with DoCoMo all over Japan. This might be a Disney-branded smartphone, but make no mistake about it – the list of hardware specifications are pretty much all grown up, with the ability to support Fingerprint Cards’ (FPC’s) swipe sensor technology.

Katsumi Takada, head of Mobile Phone Group of Fujitsu, said, “Finger sensors in smart devices have become an increasingly essential way to ensure that these devices are secure and at the same time they add convenience for the users. Finger sensors in smartphones have become something of a trademark for Fujitsu and by adding 1080 swipe sensor technology from Fingerprint Cards, we are taking the next step in helping smartphone users to increase the convenience of their experience through effortless fingerprint security.”.

There is the expectation that this launch in Japan is just a start, as there might be additional launches throughout Asia for the rest of the year, and promisingly, beyond, too. Hmm, guess notebooks alone are not the only ones to feature fingerprint sensors, as we have also heard of rumors that the upcoming iPhone 5S might also feature a fingerprint sensor of its own. Samsung SGH-N055 “Confirmed” As DoCoMo Tizen Handset

Samsung SGH N055 “Confirmed” As DoCoMo Tizen HandsetEarlier today, we did mention a possible rumor of how Samsung could very well introduce the first Tizen device later this coming October, and here we are with additional word on such a possibility. In fact, I guess one would say that this is closer to a “confirmation” than anything else, as a bug report page on the Tizen project website did mention that Japanese mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo already has a Tizen smartphone in the pipeline which carries the model number SGH-N055. Having said that, don’t you think that it is rather strange for Samsung to rely on “SGH” as a model number for a Tizen device? The device in question was mentioned by a user on a bug report’s comments section, touting that the “SGH-N055, docomo version, does not have this bug,” which further points out that this particular device is already being tested by third parties.

Well, chances are pretty high that we will most probably be able to check out the SGH-N055 get announced at Samsung’s developer conference, with a possible launch date sometime happening in November or December, although one would not rule out the rumored October release date, either. So far, specifications and hardware bits and pieces of the Tizen device remains unknown.

NTT DoCoMo outs Raku-Raku F-09E smartphone for ‘beginners’

NTT DoCoMo outs Raku-Raku F-09E smartphone for 'beginners'

It’s been more than a year since NTT DoCoMo unveiled its F-12D Raku-Raku handset, so it’s only natural the company would follow up with a successor in 2013. The Japanese firm just introduced the F-09E, an easy-to-use, Android-based device tailored for folks looking to get their feet wet on the smartphone craze. Hardware-wise, this Fujitsu-made, 4.3-inch (qHD) F12-D will be running Android 4.2.2, while a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600, 2GB RAM, 16GB of built-in storage and a 2,100mAh battery round out the spec list. Don’t get too attached to what’s under the hood, though: NTT DoCoMo notes the new member of the Raku-Raku family is still in development and things could change by the time it launches, sometime in “between late September and early October.”
