Some pretty good advice I’ve heard when it comes to gaining control of your weight is this: eat only when you’re hungry. But your perceptions might be a little mixed-up if you’ve lived your whole life with an unhealthy and undisciplined eating habit.
Coming to your rescue is NTT DoCoMo’s phone-slash-breathalyzer that will tell you if you’re really hungry or not, based on your bodily reactions.
The phone is actually a modded Toshiba Regza that has been made to work with a breath analyzer attachment to detect the levels of acetone in a person’s breath.
So what does acetone have to do with hunger? Well, when the body starts to burn body fat instead of food, acetone is produced and will be detected in the person’s breath. By detecting the acetone level, the phone can then tell the person to eat up or lay off the bacon.

Reserve the Sharp AQUOS SH-10D on NTT DoCoMo from tomorrow, full launch next week
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe knew the Sharp AQUOS SH-10D was due to hit NTT DoCoMo at some point this summer, and now we’ve got the full details. You can reserve yours through the carrier from tomorrow, and the proper launch will take place the following week on August 30th. The device will be available in the three colors you see above, and as it recently passed through the FCC, a trip to the US could also be in the cards. But unfortunately, that orange wallpaper is all too harsh a reminder of one that never ventured outside Japan.

The Xperia GX passed muster at the FCC labs a few weeks back and is filling shelves of NTT DoCoMo stores starting today. If you like your smartphone screens big and high-resolution, you’ll probably be very happy with the Xperia GX‘s 720p 4.6-inch display, wrapped in a curved frame similar to last year’s Xperia Arc. There’s no word on whether the phone will remain a Japan-only exclusive, but Sony is likely to have something new to show off at European trade show, IFA, in only a few weeks. Arguably more of a looker than the Xperia S, perhaps we’ll see a global model — there’s a pentaband 3G radio in this iteration — sidling up next to an Xperia tablet in Germany very soon.

Some of the leading lights in Japanese mobile tech have joined forces to take on Qualcomm and TI in developing wirelessly-enabled smartphone and tablet chipsets. Fujitsu, NTT DoCoMo, NEC and Fujitsu Semiconductor have created Access Network Technology Limited, a new collaboration that will produce “industry-leading communications platform products” and reduce reliance on foreign-made wireless components.
The joint-venture will specialize in semiconductor products with integrated modem functions “for use in communications equipment” according to the quartet. That equipment is likely to primarily consist of phones and tablets, most likely targeting the Japanese home market initially, but could also expand to laptops from NEC and Fujitsu, as well as mesh-networking in the so-called “Internet of Things.”
All four have already collaborated in the past on development work, and the Access project basically makes that an official endeavor. Fujitsu will control the majority stake, holding 52.8-percent ownership, while Fujitsu Semiconductor will hold 9.5-percent. NEC will control 17.8-percent, and DoCoMo will get 19.9-percent. Initial capital is 100m yen ($1.3m) with a workforce of approximately 85.
Timescales for the first chips to emerge from Access Network Technology Ltd haven’t been revealed, though Fujitsu says the goal is 7-percent of global marketshare for smartphone chips by 2014. Currently Qualcomm dominates that landscape, but Access aims to push ahead in LTE and other next-gen connectivity standards – already advanced in consumer deployment in Japan – to give it an edge.

Japan LTE growth continues, NTT DoCoMo adds a million users in under 2 months
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs British readers bang their heads on desks, and LTE remains something perpetually happening “next year,” another island nation is very much on-board with the new tech. NTT DoCoMo, one of Japan’s biggest mobile carriers, has announced it now has over 4 million LTE users, with the last million joining its 4G Xi (pronounced “crossy”) network in the last month and a half. Speeds top out at an impressive 75 Mbps, with eight of its most recent releases — including the Galaxy S III and the Optimus Vu — compatible with the new network. NTT DoCoMo saw uptake growth double after launching the LTE-centric summer range.

Fujitsu has just announced a spanking new NEXT series of the REGZA T02D smartphone which will make its way to NTT DoCoMo of Japan. You can be sure that it will be a pretty tough job finding an imported unit here in the US for many reasons, but let us take a look at the kind of technology which this particular smartphone packs underneath the hood. For starters, the REGZA Phone T-02D is said to come with the Mobile REGZA Engine 6.0, which is the most recent version of Toshiba’s high-definition imaging technology, in addition to an OLED “New AMOLED Plus” display, hence making this on paper the best REGZA handset to date in terms of visual quality.
Other hardware specifications include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, a 13.1-megapixel camera, REGZA Link Share that lets you hook up the device to a REGZA Blu-ray player so that you can enjoy recorded TV shows, and the most recent Human Centric Engine version. The 1,800mAh battery should provide adequate amounts of juice throughout the day, while you can even bring this with you during a slight drizzle thanks to it being water- (IPX5/8) and dust-resistant (IPX5). No idea on pricing, but expect the device to come in pink, black, and blue shades.

NTT DoCoMo stops Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for quartet of Xperia smartphones
Posted in: Today's ChiliNTT DoCoMo of Japan has just announced that after mulling over a particular issue for the longest time, they have decided to put a stop to an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for a quartet of Xperia models from Sony. These particular handsets will be the Xperia acro (SO-02C) which has burned up sales charts in quite the charming manner to date, the aging Xperia arc (SO-01C), the maligned Xperia PLAY (SO-01D) and the Xperia ray (SO-03C).
These four models came under consideration for an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, but at the end of the day, NTT DoCoMo figured out it was easier to shelve the update simply because of memory and performance issues – definitely the lack of memory is involved for some of the handsets, that is for sure. DoCoMo PR mentioned that 1GB of RAM is required to have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich run smoothly, although it is rather weird as those living in the West have had Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running on those devices for some time already (other than the Sony Xperia PLAY, of course).
