Dalek Hat Exterminates Wind Chill

So the latest season of Doctor Who kicked off last week with a Dalek episode. And if you saw it, you already know that this episode breaths new life into the Daleks and takes them from being a silly overused villain to making them multi-dimensional bad guys. Well, I can’t think of a better time to buy oneself a Dalek hat.

This neat Dalek hat comes from Nerdy Needles Knitting who makes many knitted Dalek hats in a variety of colors. The real Daleks now come in a plethora of colors after all. (They also offer TARDIS hats if you’re rooting for the good guys.)

The Dalek hat will keep you warm and cozy whether you are battling the Doctor or just wasting away on a Dalek Asylum planet. Just $36(USD).

Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Toothbrush: Even Time Lords Need Oral Hygiene

If you’re a fan of the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who, you will get a big kick out of the latest electric toothbrush to turn up online. The toothbrush looks just like the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver.

who bruch

It’s not actually a sonic toothbrush; it appears to vibrate at less than a sonic level with no spinning action like most electric toothbrushes today. It also won’t pick locks or analyze alien lifeforms. The toothbrush gets power from a single AA battery and ships with a spare head. Getting this bit of sci-fi tooth care Geekery will set you back about $19 (USD). The toothbrush is appropriate for ages three and up and is an officially licensed Doctor Who product.

You can pick one up on Firebox if you pre-order now, though there’s no indication of a shipping date yet.

BBC iPlayer Now Lets You Download Doctor Who

If you’re a fan of BBC programs like Doctor Who, Top Gear, and more and enjoy the iPlayer app, check this out. The app for iOS has got a lot more useful with the ability to download your favorite BBC TV shows directly to the smartphone or your tablet. That will let you watch your favorite programs even when a Wi-Fi network isn’t available.

ip dl

The app has a couple caveats though. The app only allows you to keep shows you download and don’t start to watch for 30 days. Once you begin to watch the show, you have only seven days to finish. It’s unclear if you can download the same episodes again later if you want to watch second time. The other big caveat is that iPlayer still isn’t available in the US as of yet, though a global player may someday make its way stateside.

iPlayer now has a download icon on each program that you can tap to start the download and save the episode. If you’re not on a Wi-Fi network when you hit the download button, the next time you connect to a Wi-Fi network, the download will begin. This should be the perfect way to have shows with you when you’re traveling. Android users in the UK should also be getting the download capability soon.

Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Electric Toothbrush

Oh look, what do we have here? Another Dr. Who device that will definitely charm the masses. The thing is, Dr. Who deals plenty with time machines, time travel and such, so do you think it would make perfect sense for a time-travelling toothbrush to make an appearance? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you will be pleased to hear that £11.99 will net you the Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Electric Toothbrush. After all, even Time Lords are able to develop tartar as well as gingivitis, hence having something as simple perfunctory as a toothbrush attachment for the Sonic Screwdriver makes plenty of sense.

Of course, you are not able to change TV channels with this puppy, but at least you know that this is an officially licensed product, and has also gained approval from dentists to boot – across many dimensions, of course. A single AA battery is all that is required to power this puppy. Would you go manual instead if you run out of juice on this?

Sonic Screwdriver Programmable TV Remote

So you think that you have the spiffiest universal remote control at home? You might be correct with that, but perhaps the $99.95 Sonic Screwdriver Programmable TV Remote would take the hat of being the coolest remote control instead. After all, Dr. Who fans would definitely fall in love with it, where you are able to control your terrestrial TV with this uniquely tiny device, controlling it just like the good doctor himself.

Since the Nintendo WIi introduced motion-based gaming, the Sonic Screwdriver Programmable TV Remote would be yet another device that introduces another model to the gesture-based universal remote control family. It looks just like the real deal, hand-polished, copper-plated and all, sporting die cast metal construction that definitely adds more than just a dash of class. You can be your own Time Lord, although the only time you would be wasting away would be if you were to watch TV shows all day long. The Sonic Screwdriver Programmable TV Remote is powered by a couple of AAA batteries.

Must See HDTV (August 27th – September 2nd)

Must See HDTV August 27th September 2nd

This is it, the crossover where summer and fall programming mix. College football is back in action, and we say good bye to some of our favorite summer TV shows like Breaking Bad. TV fans should also keep an eye out on the disc releases, as many shows boxed sets are hitting shelves before the new season begin airing soon. Look below for the highlights this week, followed after the break by our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames.

Breaking Bad
This weekend the first half of the fifth and final season of AMC’s Breaking Bad comes to a close, before viewers wait for the second half to air in summer 2013. You won’t find any spoilers here, but the path Walter White has taken has certainly arrived at places few would have predicted when the show began. The only question now is how many surprises are left before it all comes to an end.
(September 2, AMC, 10PM)

Doctor Who
Also fresh this weekend is a new series of Doctor Who episodes, kicking off with Asylum of the Daleks. The better news as of late has been BBC America closing the gap in airing new episodes and that DirecTV is carrying the channel in HD at last. If you can’t wait for new shows, check out the Pond Life preview clip embedded after the break.
(September 1, BBC America, 9PM)

College Football
While preseason week four of the NFL season is skippable pigskin action, the return of college football this weekend will have us planted firmly in front of our HDTVs. The Hawaii/USC and Michigan/Alabama matchups Saturday night should start the season off with a bang and we can’t wait. Looking for your favorite team in the listings? We’ve got many of the nationwide broadcasts covered, but reader Jose Perez reminds us of this comprehensive TV schedule at LSUFootball.net that should let you know who is playing where all season long.

Doctor Who USB Dalek Desk Defender

Are you a huge fan of Dr. Who? If so, you would definitely have wished upon a star once in your lifetime for a real life Dalek as your personal assistant. After all, there is nothing cuter or more nerdy than a Dalek scurrying around, following you about while yelling, “Exterminate! Exterminate!”. Definitely the ideal desk companion to have whenever you are sick and tired of issuing a verbal command to shoo away unwanted visitors to your work space, outsourcing the dirty task to the $39.99 Doctor Who USB Dalek Desk Defender.

It is nice to know that the Doctor Who USB Dalek Desk Defender will be accompanied by an extremely lengthy USB cable, ensuring that it does not matter just where the final available USB port is located on your machine – the Dalek on your desk is more than capable of handling whatever comes its way. The integrated motion sensor on this puppy is capable of detecting movement between 6 to 9 feet away, depending on the kind of lighting that you have in the vicinity. Turn it on before you leave for lunch, and it will serve you well.

Custom Doctor Who Cookie Cutters Perfect for Making Dalek-Shaped Jammy Dodgers

If you’ve ever looked for Doctor Who cookie cutters then you know they are hard to find. I’m not sure if any official cookie cutters even exist. So what do you do when you want to make some cookies to stuff in your TARDIS cookie jar? Make your own cookie cutters of course.

With these Doctor Who cookie cutters you could bake some amazing treats. These awesome custom made cookie cutters were made by Flickr user Nidaram. I especially love the K9 cutter. Nidaram made these for a friend’s Christmas present a couple of years back.

The set includes a Dalek, a TARDIS, a Slightly 3-D TARDIS, and K-9. It’s just hand-bent steel held together at the ends with two machine screws. I’d love to see what the cookies look like.

TARDIS Mini Dress and Leggings: Doctor Woo-Hoo!

Look at how tight that TARDIS mini dress is on that girl. I sure hope it’s bigger on the inside so she can breath. I vote that this should be the official companion uniform from this season forward. This sexy dress was released yesterday from Australian clothing company Black Milk.

tardis topIt’s too bad we never got to see Amy Pond wearing this. Then again, the Doctor has enough distractions as it is. The company also had another release that is even sexier. These stretchable leggings give the TARDIS some nice curves.

dr who leggings

As you might expect these don’t come cheap. A pair of TARDIS tights will cost you about $79.00(USD) and the Doctor Who dresses are about $100(USD). The look on every male’s face? Priceless.

TARDIS Shed: The Chameleon Circuit Works, Kinda

Hey look! The Doctor fixed the Chameleon circuit. It doesn’t look like a Police Box at all now. More of a Police Shed. However, you’ll notice that that Dalek isn’t fooled for one minute. Unless he’s just after some pruning sheers or something.
TARDIS Shed
This is a nice bit of TARDIS art. It was actually completed about a decade ago, but the man behind the project, Tardisbuilders user Einstein19, is just getting around to sharing it with the world now.

That only makes sense. He was clearly busy exploring time and space with some hot young companions. Hey, if I had a TARDIS shed, I would have done the same. The internet can wait. Any neighbors who come over to borrow tools naturally get sucked into an adventure or two. That will teach them.
