Invasion of the Speaker Daleks: REVERBERATE! REVERBERATE!

This Dalek was caught invading CES 2014. He was not built on Skaro however, but by car audio company Massive Audio for display at their CES booth. I bet he caught tons of attention. It is actually a giant speaker. But still. Kill it now!

This Dalek measures six feet-tall and was built using 32 woofers on the bottom, a big subwoofer in the head and 5,000 watts of amplifiers. Yes, that is a powerful Dalek indeed. He plays music streamed through your smartphone or tablet. The whole creation weighs 926 pounds and cost $25,000 to make. It will be auctioned off on eBay for the BBC’s children’s charity sometime this summer, so you can potentially own this guy.

Now all we need is for the Cybermen to show up with some tweeters in their helmets.

Doctor Who TARDIS Shower Rack Helps Whooligans Get Clean

The shower rack is one of those great inventions that give you a place to put all your shampoo and soap in the shower so you don’t have to worry about crushing your toes while your eyes are covered in soap. Not all shower racks are created equal though. This TARDIS shower rack is clearly head and shoulders above the rest.

The TARDIS shower rack is in the familiar police box blue color and has other touches that will make you feel like you are a showering Time Lord.

The two cubbies in the lower section are removable. If you are wondering why you might want to remove those lower cubbies, it’s because by taking them out you can stand tall bottles on the bottom rack. Say, doesn’t that make it bigger on the inside?

You can buy your own TARDIS shower rack for $44.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

TARDIS Themed Awesome Box is Awesomer on the Inside

The Public Library of Brookline, Massachusetts recently built themselves an Awesome Box. The box is called the Awesome Box because it is full of awesome book suggestions.

All the book titles dropped off inside the Awesome Box are compiled and posted online to help other readers who are looking for some great books to read. To make the Awesome Box a bit more awesome, the library peeps painted it to look like Doctor Who’s TARDIS. The library workers were inspired by the 50th anniversary of the classic BBC sci-fi series.

The box also has a quote from The Doctor on the side that is very fitting for a library: “You want weapons? We’re in a library! Books! The best weapons in the world!… The Greatest arsenal we could have. Arm Yourselves!”

Own the War Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver! (Not for Assembling Cabinets)

If you are a fan of Doctor Who, you have probably seen the 50th anniversary episode called “The Day of the Doctor.” In that episode, you might recall the fancy sonic screwdriver that the War Doctor used.

Another Gingerbread TARDIS, That’s all 12… No, 13!

We’ve seen our share of gingerbread TARDIS, but this one takes the cake, er, gingerbread – because it is decked out in holiday decorations. It has Christmas lights, a wreath and snow all over.

Redditor Fortunekitty really went the extra mile (or is it years – or light years when you are talking about a time machine that can travel through space?) with this gingerbread TARDIS.

Say, when a TARDIS gingerbread house goes stale, can it just go back in time and be fresh again? For that matter, can it even become stale? Does it get all timey wimey? These are questions for a mind much sharper than my own. All I know is that this TARDIS is just waiting to be devoured.

All the World’s a Soundstage: In Praise of Studio-Bound Alien Worlds

All the World's a Soundstage: In Praise of Studio-Bound Alien Worlds

Quick, what’s the first thing you noticed about the planet we visited in last night’s Doctor Who special? That’s right: It was a soundstage.* None of Matt Smith’s final hour was filmed in a real location. Alien worlds used to be filmed in the studio more often — here’s why we miss visiting Planet Soundstage.

Dalek Christmas Tree: Decorate! Decorate!

This Dalek Christmas tree is ready to deck the halls and exterminate the Doctor this holiday season. The only gift this tree wants below its limbs is the Doctor’s body. Well, that and death, death, death to everyone.

This Dalek Christmas tree looks even better than last year’s specimen. The red skirting around the base really sells it. Those candy canes are probably bombs too.

Too bad an unsuspecting Santa will probably end up dead, disappointing kids around the world. Then again, that is probably the Daleks’ master plan this year. Kill our Christmas spirit and soon after, we will lose the will to fight.

Silly Daleks. The Doctor always wins – especially during the Christmas special.

Doctor Who Weeping Angel Stress Toy: Whatever You Do, Don’t Squeeze

Do stress balls actually work for you? Then don’t get Underground Toys’ officially licensed Weeping Angel Stress Toy. Because I think it works the other way around: when you squeeze it, you get stressed.

I’m not sure why I’m telling you this, but you can pre-order this abomination from Big Bad Toy Store for $25 (USD).

Minecraft TARDIS Cake: A Creeper Has the Phonebox!

There are a lot of people one doesn’t expect to coming out of the TARDIS. Chuck Norris, President Lincoln and Nathan Drake to name just a few. Oh and a Creeper. I never expected to see a Creeper in the TARDIS. Get him out before he explodes!

This fun Minecraft and Doctor Who mash-up birthday cake was created by Curiaussiety Custom Cakes of Australia. Look at that Creeper just creeping. He is probably having a quick look outside to make sure the Doctor isn’t coming back, so it can safely blow up the console room.

Hey maybe that Creeper is the Doctor’s new companion. That would be pretty cool.

Life-size Flying TARDIS UAV: Propellers on the Outside

Flyonix specializes in aerial video and photography. The studio recently put their knowledge of drones for a geeky pursuit. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, Flyonix set out to build and fly a life-size TARDIS. And they succeeded. Somewhat.

life size tardis uav by flyonix 620x930magnify

Flyonix built a custom rig with 12 propellers. Judging from their brief making-of videos – which you can watch here and here – they made the TARDIS model itself out of styrofoam. With everything in place, all that was left was to let her fly…

Oh, the humanity! Unfortunately it seems like her chameleon circuit wasn’t the only thing that needed fixing. According to Metro, a battery shortage was responsible for the crash. If you’re an aspiring Time Lord, you can see more in-progress photos of Flyonix’ ill-fated TARDIS on the studio’s Facebook page.
