Ellinikon International Airport, located in Athens, Greece, was shut down in 2001. The site has been left partially intact while development plans take place, and photographer Alexandros Lambrovassilis has been revisiting the site for years to document its remains.
Garry Winogrand is known for being one of the 20th century’s greatest photographers. This video clip from a 1982 documentary is a wonderful peek at Winogrand roaming the streets with his camera and ruminating on photography.
Two Star Trek Fans Broke into the Star Trek: TNG Set in 1988, Filmed a Documentary
Posted in: Today's ChiliYou can’t make this stuff up. Back in 1988, two diehard Star Trek: The Next Generation fans broke into the Paramount lot in the middle of the night and proceeded to film their own awkward and incompetent “documentary” as they explored the Enterprise sets.
Captain Stone of the Stage 9 Interlopers shows up on camera here and there dressed in his Starfleet uniform. At one point he even accidentally breaks a prop. The whole incident is strangely mesmerizing to watch. It begins with this guy posing next to a headless Starfleet officer from the episode “Conspiracy” as they argue about filming styles, and progresses through shot after shot of awkward instructions from actor to cameraman.
I just wish we had more footage. It seems like a great comedy.

It’s been a fun year for Gizmodo’s video operation. We’ve gone inside distilleries and toy factories, and met some really interesting people in the process. The following is a compendium of moving images from 2013 for your listening and viewing pleasure. Grab an armchair, sip some ‘nog, and enjoy.
If you ever found yourself in an herbal induced state of clarity and wondered if you could set a Guinness World Record in something ridiculous, the answer is you probably can. But then Ashrita Furman would probably break your record. Who? Ashrita Furman. He’s perhaps the greatest winner, maybe one of the greatest non-professional athlete and definitely the greatest Guinness World Records holder in the world. Why? We’ve made a lot of videos over the years—sometimes absurd, sometimes insightful, sometimes just to embarrass and torment our staff. For the productions we work extra hard on, the ones that probe the depths of tech & design, we are introducing a new moniker.
To celebrate 15 years of Gran Turismo, Sony is releasing a documentary about the obsessions of series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide chronicles Yamauchi’s creative process via interviews with car makers and journalists, all keen to heap praise on the mastermind. While the trailer (embedded below) does get a little bit heavy-handed — with slightly dodgy comparisons to Magellan, for instance — it’s nice to see an influential game designer’s work in the spotlight. We don’t have a release date, but it coming out near GT6‘s December 6th launch doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
