Hasta La Gadget!

Of all the characters in the original Star Wars trilogy, the Ewoks were my favorites. At the time, I didn’t realize how much they looked like dogs that walked around on their hind legs. if you need any more proof that the Ewok race is descendant from the mighty and fluffy Shih-tzu dog breed, here it is.

Somewhere in a city far, far away a geek has poked the head of his or her cute little shih-tzu through the side of a cardboard box with the body of an Ewok drawn on it. Epic dog photo taking ensued.

It’s almost worth buying a shih-tzu just so I can recreate this photo. It just wouldn’t be the same with my daughter’s Chihuahua poking her boney little head through the box. I sincerely hope this dog’s name is Wicket.

Technology is great but, when it comes to awesome, nothing can beat nature. Just look at Duncan Lou Who, the famous boxer who got his two back legs amputated because of a genetic malformation. He learned to walk with his two arms—and this video shows he’s now running faster than ever.

If you and your dog are trekkies, you may have some silly Star Trek pet items around your place already. A new Trek-inspired pet product has surfaced that looks like Captain Kirk’s seat from the original series.

This captain’s chair pet bed is much cooler than the transporter dog bed we talked about last year. The pet bed is suitable for dogs, cats, and little kids if they are so inclined. The bed features embroidered details on the arms and back of the chair. Should your captain dog happen to go number one on the bed during a close call with some Klingons (cats), the innards come out for washing.

The bed measures 32″ W x 27″ L x 6.5″ thick and the cushion itself is 5″ thick. The bed looks cool and should be comfortable for your pet as well. The Star Trek Captain’s Chair Pet Bed is available from ThinkGeek for $79.99(USD) right now.

Fitness trackers are incredibly popular these days. One of these is Fitbit, which tracks  your daily activity, the number of calories you’ve burned, your sleep, and so on and so forth.

And then there’s FitBark – an activity tracker for your dog.

FitBark is a bone-shaped activity tracker that’s designed specifically with canines in mind. It can be attached easily to most collars and keeps track of your dog’s activity and energy levels throughout the day. You’ll be able to access on her health and general well-being which will come in useful when she’s sick, because you’ll be able to tell before more symptoms show just by checking her stats.

FitBark was funded successfully via Kickstarter last August 2013. Additional units are now available for pre-order for $69(USD), or $109 for the unit with a base station.
