mpup Dog House Sofa Gives Pups a Couch of Their Very Own

While your cat might already have a sofa, dogs shouldn’t feel left out from your living room much longer. While you certainly can let your pooch up on the couch and sit on your lap or cushions, I’m sure some of you prefer to keep the dog hair away from where our guests sit. The Dog House Sofa helps alleviate this problem – assuming your dog isn’t too big.

Created by Korea’s mpup, this dog-friendly oak wood and fabric couch provides a special cubby on the side for your dog to nap in. While it doesn’t prevent your dog from jumping on the main part of the couch, it does give them a place of their own to chill out – or go when they need a time-out.

It also doesn’t hurt that it’s a good looking modern couch that should fit nicely into many decors.

There’s no word on if you can get the Dog House Sofa shipped outside of Korea, but you can find more pics and information on the sofa over on the mpup website.

Garmin DC 50 dog collar promises better satellite reception, longer battery life

Garmin DC 50 dog collar promises better satellite reception, longer battery life

Your dog can run, but it can’t hide from Garmin’s latest dog tracking collar. The DC 50 ups the game for the GPS company’s satellite-friendly canine wearables, offering a more rugged, waterproof (up to 10 meters) design and improved battery life at 26 hours with the five-second update and up to 54 hours with two-minute update. There’s also a Dog Rescue mode to automatically switch the collar to the latter when the charge gets down to 25 percent — so you’ll still get signal should you lose your pooch at the end of the day. And, to make him easier to find, the DC 50 promises more reliable satellite reception, thanks to the antenna’s placement at the top of the collar and its utilization of both GLONASS and GPS nav systems. When paired with Garmin’s Astro 320, users can track a pack of up to ten pups at once should you have the money to outfit them all with DC 50’s. The collar will be available later this month for $230, or $600 if you buy it bundled with the aforementioned Astro 320.

Doggy Food and Treat Trucks Popping up All Over the Place

Dogs are truly man’s best friend. They’re there for you through thick and thin, even during times when other human beings refuse to speak with you.

I know many dog owners who love their canine companions to bits, so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that doggy food and treat trucks are opening all over cities.

Gourmet Pet Food Truck

From the Sit ‘N Stay Pet Cafe in Orlando, Florida which offers “truly healthy gourmet treats” made from “human-grade, locally sourced, organic, natural and humanely raised/harvested ingredients” to  Fido to go, the “gourmutt” food truck that serves “hand-crafted, gluten and allergen-free canine cookies & doggy ice creams/frozen yogurts,” there’s a pet revolution going around in food trucks everywhere.

Ice cream for dogs is already being sold online and now you can get frozen treats for your pooches instantly if you’re in Elizabeth, New Jersey – if you happen to catch the Frosty Pooch ice cream truck, that is. Dog owners in Austin, Texas need not worry either, because they can get their dogs some frozen treats from Bow-Wow Chow.

Do you know of any other dog-centric food trucks and stalls around town? If you do, feel free to share them by commenting below!

iFetch Automatic Ball Launcher: Your Best Friend’s New Best Friend

Because dogs don’t have to deal with work, other people and taking care of dogs, you can’t always match your pet’s enthusiasm and energy. But you can’t just leave your buddy hanging right? That’s why Grant and Denny Hamill invented the iFetch. Contrary to its name, this device throws balls for pets to fetch. And as far as some dogs are concerned, that’s all you’re good for anyway.

Do or Do Not Go to Dog Grooming School, There is No Try

I guess you could say that this bizarre Yoda dog getup is a sort of Star Wars mullet. He’s Jedi master up front, with an Ewok in the back. For some reason, he looks legit. I must travel to his doggy planet and learn the ways of the Force. Screw it, he probably just wants biscuits all day long.

Ren Netherland of Animal Photography took these photos. He travels across America every year to document the most extreme grooming competitions the world has to offer. He’s obviously seen some pretty weird stuff – like this Yoda dog.

This poor was shaved and colored to get his look just right. He also encountered some dogs dressed like Sesame Street characters and different Disney characters. That’s got to mess with their little doggy heads.

Whistle canine fitness tracker can be pre-ordered now for $100

Whistle canine fitness tracker can be preordered now for $100

Pet care industry spending exceeds $50 billion per year in the US alone, so there’s no question that folks are dropping some serious dough on man’s best friend. A device to track your dog’s health, then, makes an awful lot of sense, from a business perspective at the very least. Whistle, designed by a company bearing the same name, keeps tabs on your pooch for 100 bucks. The device connects to your pet’s collar; from there, it quietly measures activity and rest. The information it gathers can then be shared with both you and your dog’s doc, and it’s also added to a database, available to researchers around the world. The device and associated service will provide feedback for improving your dog’s health, tailored to his or her specific breed. You don’t pay any fees beyond the $100 pre-order charge, which you can submit directly to the manufacturer at the source link below.

Dog Activated Outdoor Fountain

Dogs need an adequate amount of fresh water at their disposal at all times, and the thicker its coat, the more water it needs to drink to rehydrate itself. Of course, some of us do not mind letting Lassie lap up water straight from the tap without any boiling or filtering done, but for other folks who intend to go the extra mile for their four legged friends, perhaps the $69.95 Dog Activated Outdoor Fountain is a good idea to invest in for your home.

The Dog Activated Outdoor Fountain is pretty much self-explanatory, where it will dispense water whenever it detects that there is a dog nearby. Just how does it do so? No, there are no invisible leprechauns hanging around in your garden, ready to press a button each time a pooch ambles along, but instead, it relies on a built-in sonar proximity sensor which is capable of detecting a dog’s presence within 3′ and across a 40° angle, where it will then automatically turn on the water, and is smart enough to turn it off when the pet leaves. Thing is, your dog might be a labrador, and we all know how much labradors love water – so they might just hang around the Dog Activated Outdoor Fountain all day long. This particular unit is a snap to install – all you need to do is attach it to a garden spigot, and you’re good to go. There is also an integrated splitter which enables a hose to remain connected to the garden spigot, with its housing is made from weather-resistant hard plastic that will also be able to resist the curious dog’s chewing. A quartet of C batteries are said to deliver up to one year of juice, now how about that?

Meat-Flavored Ice Cream for Dogs: What are You Eatin’?

People do different things to cheer themselves up when they’re down in the dumps. Some people watch reruns of their favorite series while eating a pint of ice cream, while others head outdoors for a run or play a game or two of catch with their canine best friends. I love my dog to bits and spoil her with treats every now and then, considering that I’m the type of person who goes straight for option number three when I’m particularly sad or down.

So when I saw that the fine folks of Arrfscarf have come up with the ultimate frozen treat for dogs, I just couldn’t resist getting some. For my dog, of course, not for myself.

Arrfscarf Dog Ice Cream

All of the ice cream is handmade in Chicago, so you’re guaranteed fresh frozen delights for your pet made with choice and locally-sourced ingredients. There are currently five flavors available: Peanut Butter Bacon, Beef Brisket, Chicken Cheddar, Pulled Pork and Gouda Burger. Yum.

Each 3.5oz of doggy ice cream costs $3.50 (USD), but there’s an add-on of $8 for overnight shipping so Arrfscarf can get your ice cream to you without melting.
