Doom 4 Underwent A Redesign Due To Its Lack Of “Spirit” And “Soul”

Doom 4 Underwent A Redesign Due To Its Lack Of Spirit And SoulIt’s been a while since we last heard about Doom 4, although back in 2012 there were rumors that the game might have been cancelled, although those rumors have since been refuted. John Carmack then stated that Doom 4 will be “done when it’s done” and while we appreciate the developers trying to create the best game possible, there’s still no word on a possible release, let alone an official announcement of sorts. Well as it turns out it seems that the reason why Doom 4 has yet to make an appearance, which some speculated could take place at Quakecon this year, is because the game had to undergo a redesign.

This was revealed by id software’s studio director, Tim Willits, during an interview with the folks at IGN. According to Willits, “[Doom 4] did not have the spirit, it did not have the soul, it didn’t have a personality. It had a bit of schizophrenia, a little bit of an identity crisis. It didn’t have the passion and soul of what an id game is.” Willits then went on to state that it’s all hands on deck now for the Doom 4 project and apparently it is being aimed at next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, along with the PC, which seems to confirm the rumors that Doom 4 could skip current-gen consoles.

Doom 4 To Skip Current Gen (Rumor)

Doom 4 To Skip Current Gen (Rumor)id Software is practically an institution by itself, and that is definitely not surprising due to the legion of fans that follow John Carmack. It was confirmed last August by Carmack himself that Doom 4 was in development, although back then, that was all we knew about it, without any additional details shared. Ever since then, however, there was nothing else which was leaked or shared about Doom 4, but it seemed that one thing is for sure – Doom 4 will be headed to next generation gaming consoles and machines, as this was done so that the game itself will be able to live up to the expectations of gamers.

In a recent interview, Bethesda’s vice president of marketing and public relations, Pete Hines, shared, “An earlier version of Doom 4 did not exhibit the quality and excitement that Id and Bethesda intend to deliver and that Doom fans worldwide expect. As a result, Id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the Doom 4 Id is making, we will let folks know.”

Doom 4 discovered on Steam content database thanks to dataminers

Doom 4 will be “done when it’s done”, according to id Software’s John Carmack, but hopefully we will be able to get snippets of the game in the meantime and that’s what we’re assuming dataminers have been attempting. According to PCGamesN, dataminers have discovered that Doom 4 has appeared on Steam’s content database as part of both test and community listings which means that Valve is using Steam to distribute and test the game internally. This will hopefully appease gamers who might be worried that Doom 4 could be on the backburner, but with this datamined information, we guess it can be taken as an indication that the game is indeed progressing, hopefully as planned. Not much else is known about the game so far but we will be keeping our eyes peeled, so if Doom 4 is an FPS you’re been dying to play, check back with us at a later date where we will have more information for now (hopefully!).

Doom 4 will be “done when it’s done”, according to John Carmack

If you’re looking forward to play id Software’s upcoming Doom 4, you could be in for quite a wait. Originally announced back in 2008, it seems that Doom 4 is not ready yet according to id Software’s John Carmack. He stated that they are hard at work on the game and that it will be “done when it’s done”. It’s kind of vague but hopefully this wait will translate into a game of high quality which id Software has been known to put out in the past. Carmack went on to reveal that id Software had to shut down its mobile division in order to get more staff to work on triple A games like the upcoming Doom 4. This is not to say that id Software will neglect the mobile market completely, but for now if you’re expecting more mobile titles from the developer, you’re out of luck. Until then we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more Doom 4 news, so stay tuned!
