Dragon Quest Floor Mats: Wiper of the Remnant Slimes

Square Enix will be releasing floor mats featuring graphics from the 8-bit Dragon Quest games. The mats are made of acrylic fiber and will come in three variants: journey – i.e. a portal – staircase and poison swamp. Yes kids, this is how swamps looked like back then.

Square Enix To Release Dragon Quest I to Dragon Quest VIII On iOS And Android

Square Enix To Release Dragon Quest I to Dragon Quest VIII On iOS And AndroidSquare Enix has unveiled a site which has confirmed something that many people would certainly be looking forward to – that is, the release of Dragon Quest I all the way through to Dragon Quest VIII on mobile devices. Not only that, it will be a generally large group of gamers who will enjoy this for both iOS and Android platforms. As at press time, there has been no word of any kind of localization being announced for any of the ports though.

Square Enix, once a powerhouse of a gaming publisher, has been going through a rough patch at the moment, where most of their largest releases finding it difficult to turn a profit, while the famous franchises do not seem to be the kind of tour de force that they once were. Strangely enough, their strategy of taking classic and beloved console RPGs and putting them through the conversion machine, turning those classics into mobile titles has been picking up steam, never mind that it is a hugely controversial move in western regions considering the alleged low quality as well as implementation of exploitative microtransactions. Still, if you were to reside in Japan, would you pick up this title that caters to all Dragon Quest adventures right up till VII?

NTT docomo Showcases Dragon Quest Metal Slime Smartphone

NTT docomo Showcases Dragon Quest Metal Slime Smartphone[CEATEC 2013] There are just some things in Japan that are huge locally, and the rest of the world has yet to catch on. I am quite sure that some folks in the English speaking world have picked up Japanese for the sake of playing titles such as Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest, or even Mother on the Game Boy in the past. Well, this time around, we managed to catch hold of the Dragon Quest Metal Slime smartphone by the folks over at NTT docomo, although the device comes in a shiny form factor that proves it is far more metal as compared to the traditionally loved slime.

Not only that, to make it look a whole lot more exclusive, the Dragon Quest Metal Slime smartphone happened to be residing within the safe confines of a transparent plastic box, which means that there is no way we could break it out to touch and play with it without being sent to the nearby police station. Of course, there is another allure to the smartphone that projects a psychological image of it being valuable – just place it atop a pile of (fake) gold coins that are overflowing out of a treasure chest, and you’ve got quite the winner here.

Dragon Quest Slime Hourglass: It’s About Time Somebody Made This

Perhaps one of the most iconic creatures in the history of video games is Dragon Quest’s bulbous, smiley-faced Slime. I always thought he looked like a giant blue Hershey’s Kiss, or one half of an hourglass. The latter has just been made into a thing.

The guys at Square Enix have designed this awesome Slime timer which counts down about three minutes – which is just about right for cooking instant noodles. It measures about 4 inches-tall, and will come in either blue slime/sand or metallic slime/sand.

The Slime hourglass sells for ¥2200 (~$22 USD) over at the Square Enix e-STORE, and will ship later this month. Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for Slime candies.
