TRON Party Dress is off the Grid

We’ve already seen what a TRON-inspired motorcycle suit looks like. Here’s what the black-on-bright style looks like on a dress, courtesy of cosplayer Victoria Schmidt aka ScruffyRebel and her boyfriend Jin Yo. It even comes with a heart-shaped Identity Disc!

According to Victoria, “The dress is entirely the creation and design of my bf. He had the desire to create a TRON-themed party dress…and then he did! I only contributed a body to wear it, and the idea to do light-up shoes :)” All the images were taken by Flickr member LJinto, except for the top image, which was originally taken by Adam Burakowski aka Dr_Teng.

Doctor Who Dress Truly is Bigger on the Inside

I never thought that it was possible to make a TARDIS dress that is actually bigger on the inside, but just like science, the internet eventually makes all things possible.

[Insert joke about entering the TARDIS and fiddling around with her circuitry here.]

The cosplayer you see wearing this awesome TARDIS dress is Sasha Trabane. It was painted by Andy Coyle for the recent Arisia science fiction convention in Boston, MA. Needless to say, it won two prizes at the event.

I think it is safe to say that this dress can not be outdone. But of course, the internet will surely find a way. And when it does, we will share it with you.

I’m Not Sure If This Robotic Spider Dress Is Creepy or Sexy

This robotic spider dress made by Dutch designer Anouk Wipprecht and Austrian software developer Daniel Schatzmayr is creeping me out but also turning me on at the same exact time. I don’t know what to think—if those crawling spindly robot legs are scary or if they’re just sexy. More »

One Does Not Simply Dress Up as Mordor

…and Gondor, Eriador, Rohan, Arnor, Rhovanion and Rhun and whatever uncharted land is on Middle Earth. But Flickr user Kristy pulled it off with style at Dragon*Con:

middle earth map lord of the rings dress by cressiebeth from matt kristy

The dress was made by Flickr user Cressiebeth, who said “I worked with a graphic designer who created the “repeat” map pattern and Spoonflower.com printed the map on cotton sateen fabric. I used a vintage Simplicity pattern #3422 as a base for the dress and altered it with scalloping. The clutch was my own design and the “ring” was recycled from an old circle belt buckle.”

I think it’s the fact that it uses only a few colors – and muted ones at that – that prevents the whole thing from devolving into a walking globe costume.

Officially-Licensed R2-D2 Skin-Tight Dresses Give You the License to Dress to Kill

If you love clothes and happen to a fan of geeky stuff like Star Wars, then I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard of Black Milk Clothing by now. They’re behind the uber-sexy TARDIS mini dress and leggings and a series of awesome geeky swimsuits featuring C-3PO, Pac-Man, and R2-D2.

Their latest offering is a mini dress featuring none other than R2-D2. So if you’ve already got the swimsuit, then you’ll probably want a matching dress to go with it. Not that you’ll be wearing both of them at the same time, but, well, you get the point.

Star Wars R2 D2 fitted dress

The dress is officially-licensed by Lucasfilm and is made from 82% polyester and 18% Lycra. It also happens to be one of those bodycon dresses that’s already an outfit in itself. Just pull it on, put your shoes on, and don’t worry about accessorizing because the dress already does all the work for you.

This is just one of Black Milk’s Star Wars-themed offerings this season. You can check out the video below for more from their range.

The R2-D2 dress is available at Black Milk for $130.00 AUD (~$133 USD).

Darth Vader Pinafore: Dress Like a Dark Lord in this Dark Dress

Darth Vader was about as masculine as bad guys can get. But why shouldn’t female cosplayers be able to dress up as the Dark Lord too? With this Darth Vader pinafore, now they can.

Artist Amanda Marin of Darling Army makes this outfit that’s got a combination of an apron-style pinafore with a matching black cape attached in the back. It’s been done up with all the appropriate control buttons/indicators on the front, so even if you choose not to wear a Vader helmet to go with it, everyone will know exactly who you are.

If you’d like one for yourself, you can grab the Vader pinafore over on Etsy for $95(USD). While you’re in her shop, be sure to check out her other outfits, which include a TARDIS and Red Dalek pinafore among others.

By the way, does anyone know what the heck all those things on the front of Vader’s outfit did? If they controlled his health system, couldn’t a Jedi just have used their mind tricks to push one of them and shut off his respirator? Just wondering.

Flutter is a Dress that Doubles as a Hearing Aid

Not that hearing aids are unsightly, but some people who use them actually find how they look pretty annoying. But it’s better to have them than not be able to hear what people are saying around you, right?

FlutterBut if you’re looking for a sleeker, sexier alternative, then Flutter might just be the thing for you. It’s a fusion of fashion and robotics, as the garment was designed to allow those who have trouble hearing to “feel” the sounds around them.

There’s actually a complicated framework of wires and microphones under the dress that detect where the emitted sounds are coming from.

Flutter1

The ‘leaflets’, which are the leafy things on the dress, then flutter to give the wearer a sense of where the sound is coming from. So while it might not be a substitute for hearing aids, it’s a pretty enough start.

It’s only for the ladies, though, but maybe designer Halley Profita might have to come up with something for the gents the next time around.

Stormtrooper Latex Dress: The Empire Gets Sexy

Most girls I know avoid latex clothing with every inch of their souls, but here’s one dress some geeky girls might consider if it weren’t so expensive: the Star Wars Latex Dress. It’s every Star Wars fans’ dream dress, whether they’re female or male with a girlfriend who’s also a fan of the hit franchise.

Star Wars Latex DressWho knew Stormtroopers could be so sexy? I never imagined that I’d be using the words ‘stormtrooper’ and ‘sexy’ in one sentence, but there you have it. The dress is made by Shhh Couture Latex, who has a shop on Etsy where you can view all sorts of other latex-derived clothing, including a rather naughty R2-D2 bodysuit.

The Star Wars Stormtrooper Dress sells for $595(USD), and each dress is made to order to your exact size.
