Tequila Guns

Now here is a Tequila shooter that lives up to its name – the £29.99 Tequila Guns. The next time your mate asks you whether you would want to go shoot some tequila right after work, all you need to do is give a knowing nod, open your drawer and pull out the Tequila Gun that has been sitting in there for this opportune moment. No need to wait until after work, although your boss might not approve of a little tipple during the day. You will be able to pick from the classic cowboy 6-Shooter, or the more contemporary Glock 9mm and shoot – not people, but rather, tequila, as you end a particularly strenuous day at work.

Of course, it goes without saying that these are not actual guns, but rather, they are tequila bottles which were made south of the border. These beautifully realized glass bottles have been filled with high-quality tequila, and each purchase comes with a pair of shot glasses as well as a display stand. Definitely not the kind of glass bottle that you would discard once they are empty.

Bartendro robot is an interesting mix, pardon the pun

Your local bartender might have a thing or two to say about the Bartendro robot mixologist, especially in these economically trying times, and to be made redundant at the workplace because of technology is definitely quite a bummer. The thing is, the Bartendro robot mixologist does not look as though it is going to replace the bald man behind the counter, wiping glasses, anytime soon, considering how one of the main draws of a local pub would be the bartender himself who lends a shoulder to cry on during times of trouble among its clientele, as well as offers some sagely advice from time to time.

Still, to see a robot function as a bartender is something else, but do not expect the Bartendro to be some sort of protocol droid like C3PO which you see in Star Wars. No sir, it will seem to be more of a contraption, but is a robot at the very base. Thanks to the presence of a Raspberry Pi processor, it is capable of crafting up a wide range of cocktails, as long as it carries the relevant information in its database.

The Bartendro robot is said to be able to handle up to 15 bottles of booze and mixers simultaneously, and is capable of dispensing precision cocktails in a swift turnaround time of under 10 seconds. Of course, the lack of a human touch will not see the Bartendro take over the human bartender duties anytime soon, but I suppose at clubs where folks just want to get a shot of their favorite poison without having to go through the motions of talking to other folks, will find some solace in the presence of the Bartendro.

Other than the Raspberry Pi processor, the Bartendro robot mixologist will also comprise of other parts such as peristaltic pumps, custom electronic dispenser boards, and food-grade tubing. Capable of churning out 200 cocktails in an evening, you can be sure that this is one robot which will not hit on your girlfriend, but neither is it capable of breaking up fights. Fancy getting the Bartendro? You will have to fork out a rather handsome $2,499 for it.

Pedal Pub

Tonight is going to be one of those magical European football nights, as Real Madrid pays a visit to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and the tie hangs in the balance although the Red Devils do have a slight advantage, them playing in front of the home crowd, and do not need to seek a goal. Well, win or lose, fans of either team are set to celebrate or drown their sorrows in booze, which is where the $40,000 Pedal Pub would automatically make you someone’s best friend, regardless of whether they are on the winning or losing team.

Be careful though, as the Pedal Pub is able to accommodate only up to 17 folks, as they will pedal, serve, drive, and imbibe as it travels. Originally invented in the Netherlands as an ingenious method of promoting a local tavern, the Pedal Pub will sport a high-grade steel chassis that delivers a reliable, safe, and open deck which makes it ideal for socializing. There are five pedal seats per side, with 10 pedalers helping to propel the vehicle up to 5 mph on flat surfaces, with grades up to 6%. All that exercise will definitely make you thirsty, but good thing the Pedal Pub should be well stocked to quench everyone’s thirst.

Still or Fizzy?

Do you remember the first fridge you saw that had water & ice dispensers built in? Ooooh, aahhh. Yet we all probably had a grumpy Uncle who grumbled about how lazy people were getting because we couldn’t go to the sink and get a glass of water. But face it. This fridge invention is now a staple and it pays off. Filtered, chilled water when you need it and ice on command. Very handy for sure.

Samsung wants to revolutionize what comes out of the fridge door. In conjunction with SodaStream, Samsung just announced the upcoming launch of a refrigerator containing an automatic sparkling water dispenser. If you are a still water person like me you won’t care. But for those that prefer fizzy water this is your fridge. Simply choose your level of carbonation (3 available) and the built-in, 60L SodaStream CO2 cylinder (easily replaceable) produces fizzy water. Space taken up by the SodaStream unit is minimal – basically the space taken up by sparkling water in bottles. Adding this feature to the already popular 4 door model gives them a leg up on the competition. Other features include a FlexZone drawer whose temperature can freeze or cool depending on need and Samsung’s TwinCooling to keep food fresh for a longer time. This 30.5 cubic foot sparkling water dispensing fridge will be available in the US  this April at $3899.  So stop buying carbonated water and start saving your pennies.

Bottle Opening Money Clip

Show me the money! Whenever you go out drinking with your buddies, especially those whom you have not met for many, many years already, it is time to give the missus a call that you will be home extremely late – and definitely not sober, as you and your mates take turns to buy round after round of drinks for one another. Assuming you prefer to carry your money around in wads instead of tucking them into a wallet, a $69.95 Bottle Opening Money Clip does sound like a far better idea.

You can say that the Bottle Opening Money Clip is “the money clip” to own, considering how it comes with an integrated bottle opener on one end. Thanks to a tight spring mechanism and sturdy hinge, it is full well capable of maintaining a firm grip on up to 20 bills at once, and is guaranteed not to slip or loosen, even when maneuvered around a bottle cap. Will also be able to fit around the accompanying black crocodile print wallet, which holds slots for half a dozen credit cards and a generous center compartment to help you hold receipts, photos, and business cards.

Ice cubes get smart

There is nothing quite like having a nice drink at the end of the day with good company, but if you happen to lack some self-control, the conversation at your table would get boisterous and some might even say, nonsensical along the way. Well, if you are one who drives home alone, it would be better if you had brought along a designated driver as it would be far too foolish to endanger not only yourself but others on the road when you have taken in one drink too many. Well, just what other inventions can we look forward to that are able to help us get home safe and sound despite having our fair share of fun and drinks? Trust a brainy boffin over at MIT, a specific Dhairya Dand in particular, to come up with a set of “ice cubes” which are capable of keeping track of how much you have drunk during the evening, where it will flash red to inform you that you have had too much to drink.

This set of glowing cubes after was specially designed to monitor a person’s alcohol intake, where it will change color from green to red as the alcohol intake increases, so that one has a visual cue as to when to stop. I am rather skeptical of this, as the person him or herself might feel that they are far from their limit, and would not need the warning light. After all, how many of us have run a red light because we figured out we could be fast enough? What is there to prevent one from doing the same when it comes to drinking?

Well, I guess at the end of the day, something is still better than nothing, and each cube is comprised of a colored LED, an accelerometer, IR receivers, and a battery, and these have been molded into an edible, waterproof jelly so that the circuitry remains protected without affecting the drink’s taste. The accelerometer is able to calculate the number of sips a person takes, comparing it with a timer in order to estimate one’s level of intoxication while changing the flashing LED’s color accordingly. With the different alcohol levels in individual drinks, there is still plenty of work to be done before these smart ice cubes are perfected, but they are a start to begin with.
