HTC DROID DNA named confirmed by Verizon

So come 13th November, HTC and Verizon will be holding an event and while it was not explicitly stated, it is safe to assume that this will be where they will unveil the HTC DROID DNA, which appears to be the US variant of the HTC J Butterfly revealed in Japan not too long ago. While it remains to be seen if the specs are the name, we can at the very least confirm the name itself thanks to Verizon who tweeted the link to the DroidDoes website in which the DROID DNA name was spotted. If this is your first time hearing about the DROID DNA or the J Butterfly, here’s a quick refresher.

The HTC J Butterfly is HTC’s take on the phablet and features a 5” Full HD 1920×1080 display, along with a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an 8MP rear-facing camera with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running the show. Many expect the DROID DNA to be the same device although there is always the chance that there will be some slight variations for the US market. In any case the details will be revealed on the 13th of November, so check back with us tomorrow for the nitty gritty!

It is quite obvious that the next big thing to come from HTC to the US is most probably the HTC Droid DNA, where we have seen its alleged press rendering, alongside leaked images of it – and there were two dates bandied about concerning its release date, where the first stands at December 6th after folks perused through its FCC application that was recently approved. As for the other alternative date, it could very well be a week later on December 13th, as HTC and Verizon are due to hold an event in New York City then at 11am – post superstorms and all, of course.

Not only that, the HTC Droid DNA is also said to be the HTC DLX (pronounced as Deluxe), considering how the model number HTC 6435LVW did appear on the Global Certification Forum, in addition to debuting on Verizon’s Minimum Advertised Price listing as the “HTC DROID DNA.” This is definitely a high end smartphone by any means, where it has a Japanese counterpart called the HTC J Butterfly.

The HTC Droid DNA will most probably be the first smartphone in the US to come with a Full HD display, all 5” of it, with a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and in all probability, a 13-megapixel camera at the back, although we do not discount the possibility of an 8-megapixel shooter, either. All in all, there is nothing concrete for the HTC Droid DNA’s US debut, so we await with bated breath for more information.

HTC Droid DNA revealed once more in alleged leaked press rendering

A few days ago the folks @evleaks managed to get their hands on what appeared to be a picture of the HTC Droid DNA, HTC’s take on the phablet or also known as the HTC J Butterfly in Japan. That being said, @evleaks is back with what appears to be the cleanest image we have of the device and what looks like a press rendering of the handset, pretty much showing off the phone in all of its glory. It also shows Verizon’s branding on the handset which leaves little doubt as to what Verizon’s event on the 13th of November could be about. That and the fact that the background of the Droid DNA looks similar to the invite Verizon and HTC sent out helps corroborate the speculation.

While the HTC Droid DNA is said to resemble the HTC J Butterfly, there is always the off-chance that it could have been modified for Verizon. However assuming that the handset has not been touched, we can assume that it will feature the same 5” 1080p display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and a 13MP camera on the back. Of course since there is no official word from either Verizon or HTC, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us next week for the details!

HTC and Verizon to hold November 13th event, might see Droid DNA release then

Verizon has been seen training their representatives on the HTC Droid DNA, and to hear that Verizon as well as HTC have started to send out invitations to an event which is happening this November 13th can more or less mean only one thing – that should be the day when the HTC Droid DNA is announced. I guess we will not really know for sure until next Tuesday rolls around, but the alleged festivities are tipped to happen in New York City at 11am.

Just to recap, here is what has been revealed about the HTC Droid DNA so far, where its crowning glory would be the 5” display at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, sporting a pixel density of a whopping 441ppi (take that, Retina Display!), accompanied by 2GB RAM, with an 8-megapixel camera at the very minimum at the back, while the front carries a 2-megapixel shooter. There will also be HTC Sense 4+ on board with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice. Chances are, there will be a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor underneath the hood which makes this one power packed smartphone that we would love to have.

DNP Verizon bound HTC DNA gets up close and personal in its latest press photo

HTC is throwing its hat into the phablet ring and it appears that its sleeping giant is set to awaken on Verizon’s network, but not before smiling for the cameras. Pictured above is a (presumably) leaked press shot of the highly anticipated Droid DNA, which is believed to be Big Red’s stateside rendition of the 5-inch Super LCD 3, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon-toting J Butterfly. While this device has generated quite a buzz, it remains to be seen if this Japanese behemoth’s red, white and blue counterpart will ship with identical hardware. Thankfully, all should be revealed soon, as Verizon and HTC have scheduled a get together later this month in the Big Apple and of course we’ll be on hand to bring you all of the gory details, no matter how difficult to handle.

HTC and Verizon NYC Event on November 13

HTC and Verizon have sent media invites for a mysterious event in New York City on November 13. Of course, given that Verizon is involved, it would make sense if this was for the announcement of the HTC Droid DNA, also known as the HTC DLX (“deluxe”), which is 5″ Android device which would compete with the Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung.  The HTC Droid DNA is currently rumored to be available in December.

It could also be about the HTC 8X, a slim Windows Phone from HTC that should make its debuts on Verizon’s network sometime this month. So — what do you think this event is about? What we know is that we’ll be there to cover it, so stay tuned and come back to Ubergizmo on November 13.

HTC and Verizon to hold a press event in New York City on November 13th

Between Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and a few other odds and ends, this fall has been jam-packed with splashy press announcements leading up to the holiday shopping season. Looks like we’re not done just yet: Verizon and HTC announced they’ll be holding a press event in New York City on November 13th. Now, the $64,000 question is: what OS will be on display? Will it be the Android-powered Droid DNA that just passed through the FCC? And here’s another question: does “our latest collaboration” imply an exclusivity agreement? Or what if this is just a coming-out party for HTC’s 8X Windows Phone flagship? It’s not a far-fetched idea: we already know it’s coming to Verizon, but the exact pricing and on-sale date have yet to be revealed. Then again, the 8X has already been shown off at a press event or two, and we’re not sure a Verizon-branded variant would merit such a high-profile news conference. We’ll find out next week, where several of us Engadget editors will be reporting live.

HTC Droid DNA could arrive this December 6th

It was just yesterday when we saw yet another leaked image of the HTC Droid DNA thanks to the folks over at evleaks, and this time around, we might possibly have word of a release date for the HTC Droid DNA itself. It seems that the popular date being bandied around is December 6th for the HTC Droid DNA to roll out, as folks who went through the Droid DNA’s FCC approval showed that this smatphone will come with Verizon-flavored CDMA and LTE support alongside HSPA connectivity. Of course, Verizon Wireless has yet to step forward to make this particular model official on their site, but to see the HTC Droid DNA appear on Verizon’s MAP list makes such an official announcement somewhat irrelevant by the time it breaks.

Technically speaking, a December 6th release date does not sound too bad, as there are still at least a couple more weeks plus left before Christmas. How many of you out there would love to find this $249 present under your tree? Of course, the one time cost mentioned needs to be accompanied by a two-year contract, so better to pamper yourself with a nice present instead of having your buddy curse you for the next couple of years.

Possible Verizonbound HTC DLX swings through the FCC

There may be some truth to the legends, after all. We’ve seen various rumors and purported leaks surrounding an HTC DLX (or J Butterfly) destined for Verizon, but the FCC may have just given us the first truly tangible evidence through a new filing. The agency has cleared the giant smartphone under the often thought US-specific HTC6435LVW name with Verizon’s CDMA and LTE bands, as well as some HSPA-capable world roaming for good measure. While nothing’s certain until HTC or Verizon says so, it’s hard to imagine this model being destined for any carrier beyond Big Red. All that may be left now is a final launch and learning whether or not we’ll need to etch that supposed Droid DNA name into our collective consciousness.

HTC Droid DNA image leaked again

It does seem as though Evleaks are getting really good at attaining leaked images of yet unreleased devices, and if my memory serves me correctly, their collection of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 with its collection of accessories before the smartphone itself was announced proved to be spot on, and they have not looked back ever since. Well, Evleaks managed to get hold of the upcoming Droid DNA smartphone from HTC, which is actually the US variant of the HTC J Butterfly that boasts a 5” Full HD display (1080p, baby!) at a whopping 440ppi – drowning out all the noise that Apple fanboys make about the Retina Display on their 4” iPhone 5.

Considering this device carries the Droid name, chances are it will arrive on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Of course, this would make HTC a wee bit late to jump aboard the phablet bandwagon, where it runs off a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor alongside 2GB RAM. Not only that, you get 16GB of internal memory that can be further augmented by a microSD memory card. Whispered to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the HTC Droid DNA is also tipped to come with a 2,020mAh battery.
