Follow Friday: The Best Android Superphone Leaks

If you’re reading Ubergizmo, there’s a good chance you love to know about the latest upcoming phones. A lot of the time, that information is spread through leaked photos and metadata on the internet, and @evleaks on Twitter is quickly becoming a respected player in the field. They don’t tweet often–only 47 times as of now–but when they do, it’s solid, exciting information. They were the first to leak high-quality pictures of the Nexus 4 and the Asus Padphone, and today they posted a render of the upcoming Droid DNA made by HTC. They’ve also tipped it to release in early December. They don’t offer proof, but they’ve been accurate enough I’m willing to take them at their word. If you’re a fan of the cutting edge, there’s no reason not to follow them. Also, they take anonymous tips (so does Ubergizmo!)

Verizon HTC Droid DNA is more or less confirmed

The HTC Droid DNA which is more or less the US version of the Japan-bound HTC J Butterfly, is nudging closer towards an official arrival Stateside via Verizon Wireless. After all, it was not too long ago when we first took a peek at a leak from Verizon that pointed out the presence of the HTC Droid DNA, which is a 5” Android-powered handset that sported a cool 1080p display something that most folks thought that it would remain only in the domain of TVs just a couple of years ago.

Identified by its model number 6435LVW, it will, in all probability, launch on the carrier as the HTC Droid DNA. Verizon has kept mum on the situation so far, but as the name has popped up yet again on the website, all we need now is an official announcement from the folks over at Verizon. It is our hope with fingers crossed that Verizon could announce the Droid DNA sometime during the week before Thanksgiving in order to do well during the upcoming holiday season. Would you want to pick up this high end smartphone from HTC when it arrives on Verizon, or do you have some other handset in mind?

Verizon's HTC DLX may be called Droid DNA, Windows Phone 8 devices get tentative prices

Verizon is one of the more common proponents of silly Android device names, in part through its insistence on that “Droid” prefix for some hardware. When its smartphone badges practically demand a pause for breath, you know there’s a problem. Android Central‘s purported copy of a Minimum Advertised Pricing list could show that there’s hope for the carrier yet. The chart shows the HTC DLX (6435LVW) skipping the rumored Droid Incredible X name in favor of Droid DNA — and that’s it. No superlatives, no arbitrary “4G LTE” tags to remind us of the network we already know we’re using. The 5-inch phone might have even been a reasonable launch, as the MAP shows a $200 contract price that would potentially take effect just before Thanksgiving.

Want more? Other smartphones are on the supposedly leaked MAP list as well, primarily focusing on Windows Phone 8 gear: the as yet unconfirmed Nokia Lumia 822 shows up with a $100 price and a mid-November release window, while Verizon’s take on the Windows Phone 8X is present with a $200 price and similar timing. Those who’d rather go for a Samsung phablet than HTC’s aren’t left out, either. The Verizon edition of the Galaxy Note II is on the list with a $300 price and availability that starts immediately — rather convenient, that.

Droid DNA could be Verizon’s HTC DLX

HTC’s foray into the phablet market kicked off with the HTC J Butterfly in Japan, where we also spotted the HTC DLX just a few days ago. Well, it seems that the the HTC 6435LVW has already made its way to the Global Certification Forum, not to mention appearing on Verizon’s Minimum Advertised Price listing as the “HTC DROID DNA.” Of course, one might say that the HTC DLX (pronounced as HTC Deluxe) was nothing more than a codename until now, so there is every possibility that it could be marketed as the HTC Droid DNA eventually. Personally, I think that HTC DLX is a whole lot cooler than Droid DNA, after all, we don’t think that this is going to be the building block of the Droid brand simply because it isn’t.

The listing also pointed to a minimum advertised price that has been set at $199, which is pretty much in line with what most folks would have expected, in addition to a start date of November 20th that would clearly make it in time for a Thanksgiving launch thereabouts.
