Motorola launching first devices with Chrome preinstalled

While company executives on both side of the divide have spoken of “firewalls” between Google and Motorola, there’s clearly some perks to being a wholly owned subsidiary. The handset maker has announced that it’ll be the first to ship smartphones with Mountain View’s Chrome for Android pre-installed. We’re expecting to see it front and center on the Droid RAZR M next week and the RAZR HD and RAZR Maxx HD later this year.

Motorola’s New Droid Razr M Is a Smaller, Cheaper Phone With a Giant Screen [Video]

In addition to the Droid Razr HD and Razr Maxx, Motorola today at its New York event also introduced the little brother to the Verizon-exclusive—the mid-range Droid Razr M. More »

Motorola Droid RAZR HD unveiled 47inch 720p display, ICS, dualcore S4 for Verizon

It’s been a day of big smartphone reveals, but Motorola’s not one to let the glory shine too long upon rivals. At its press event today in New York City, the Google-owned manufacturer gave the public its first official look at the Droid RAZR HD. Unless you’ve been living off the grid, it’s hard to find much about this announcement fresh and / or exciting, as specs, photos, tutorials, FCC docs and even sample pics have been leaking since the start of April. Surprise already blown, the handset falls in line with previous reports, running a lightly-skinned version of Android 4.0.4 (upgradeable to Jelly Bean) and bearing a 4.7-inch 720p display, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 8-megapixel rear camera, NFC, as well as a massive 2,500mAh battery.

So, what’s changed in this RAZR refresh? Well, the phone’s back may still be Kevlar-coated (in this case, it’s pretty much fully wrapped), but a few cosmetic differences have been made to the Droid RAZR HD’s body. For starters, its front face almost spans from edge to edge, with just a little bit of bezel surrounding that display. Dimensions-wise, it’s 131.9mm tall, 67.9 mm wide and still pretty thin at 8.4mm. It’s definitely a coup for design-focused consumers that prefer to have their devices appear as a sea of seamless black glass. While it’ll be hanging out on Verizon’s 4G network, we’re still waiting on pricing — but we’re promised that it will arrive “before the holidays.”

Motorola Droid RAZR HD: Beauty in a Kevlar Coat [Video]

We haven’t seen a flagship device from Verizon and Motorola since the last Droid RAZR was announced nearly a year ago. A case could be made for the RAZR MAXX, announced at CES, but Moto needed something new and splashy to compete with the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III. More »

Motorola Officially Unveils The Droid RAZR HD And Droid RAZR MAXX HD

razrhdpress2

The Droid Razr HD has been spinning its way around the rumor mill for quite some time. But today, in rainy New York city at Gotham Hall, Motorola is officially unleashing the device on the world. Not only that, the RAZR MAXX HD (what a mouthful) was also unveiled for anyone who needs even more battery life.

The big thing (literally) we’re looking at a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED HD display, something that Motorola’s Rick Osterloh is currently on stage talking up. Motorola’s engineers worked to stretch the display to the device’s corners without actually increasing the device’s size. As expected, the RAZR HD also features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (the same Snapdragon chip seen in the smaller RAZR M). Sadly, there’s no Jelly Bean to be found just yet — Woodside announced that the devices revealed today would get that much-vaunted update shortly.

The real story, however, is in the battery. Sure, the display is beautiful, and Motorola has been upping its screen game for the past few generations, but where Moto really made a splash was with the Droid Razr Maxx, which held a 3300mAh battery.

For a reference point, that’s more than double the current iPhone battery. Today, with the announcement of the Droid Razr HD, we’re also seeing that massive battery, which should last you through at least about 16 straight hours. It’s part of a bigger focus of Motorola’s on power management going forward, a stance espoused by Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside. Naturally, the heftier RAZR MAXX HD packs the same 3300 mAh battery as seen in the original RAZR MAXX, which equates to something like 21 hours of straight usage before having to recharge.

Sadly, there’s no Jelly Bean to be found just yet — Woodside announced that the devices revealed today would get that much-vaunted update shortly.
Motorola hasn’t yet disclosed a released for the two devices, though the company was quick to note that the device will launch before the holidays.

Motorola Droid RAZR HD tutorial videos leaked

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD which was touted to arrive in the market later this October with a rumored 8-megapixel camera has just gotten a couple of its tutorial videos leaked, letting you get a closer glimpse of the smartphone before it officially makes its way to the masses. In the video above, you are able to get a closer look at the user interface, the display as well as the other stuff that the smartphone is capable of performing. You know what they say about a picture being worth a thousand words – with a video that runs at 24fps at the minimum, we are talking about a lengthy speech here.

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD is tipped to be announced and introduced at the upcoming Motorola/Verizon event which will happen on September 5th in New York City. So all we are asking is for you to hold your peace, stock up on your patience, and watch the leaked tutorial video above in the mean time. What do you think of the Motorola Droid RAZR HD – is it your cup of tea, or do you prefer to settle for the next generation iPhone instead?

Motorola Droid RAZR HD guides slip out to the web, pop the hype balloon video

Not that we were on pins and needles wondering what Motorola’s September 5th event would contain, but what vestige of mystery was left may just have been sapped away. A quartet of Motorola tutorial videos newly uncovered by YouTube user revowii walk users through the unannounced XT926, better known in unofficial circles as the Droid RAZR HD. It’s all about the looks in this leak: other than the conspicuous link to Verizon, what’s mostly validated here is the expected use of a customized Android 4.0 with on-screen navigation keys, much like the Atrix HD in AT&T’s corner of the universe. Earlier murmurings have the Droid RAZR HD carrying the same Snapdragon S4, 720p screen and LTE as well, which could leave the CDMA voice network, NFC and possibly increased storage as the only real differences. We’ll know the full truth in about two weeks’ time, but those who don’t mind a peek into the possible future can hop past the story break to indulge in some video time traveling.

Motorola Droid RAZR HD rumored to feature 8MP camera and will not come in a MAXX edition

Last week we reported that according to rumors, the upcoming Motorola Droid RAZR HD was expected to get a MAXX version, much like its predecessor, the Droid RAZR. Thanks to a tipster who tipped off the folks at Phone Arena, apparently this will not be the case and that the Motorola Droid RAZR HD will be the only device. While this might make it easier for users since they don’t have to choose between phones, the tipster also went on to reveal that the Motorola Droid RAZR HD will only have a battery with a capacity of 2,530mAh. This is probably kind of a bummer to those who were looking forward to seeing a battery of 3,300mAh which can be found in the RAZR MAXX. Other specs “confirmed” by the tipster includes a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 processor, a microSD card slot and an 8MP rear-facing camera, which seems to contradict earlier rumors of a 13MP camera instead.

Motorola teases mystery LTE phone, announces Friday reveal

Taking to its Facebook page, Motorola has rewarded its loyal Likers with a tease: an LTE phone will be revealed on Friday, and the company will offer up a new clue about it every day leading up to the announcement. Our guess? We’d say we’re ripe for a Droid RAZR HD debut on Verizon right about now. Regardless, it seems that Moto’s pretty eager for this mysterious device — we just hope it’s worth the anticipation.

Update: It turns out that Motorola is not actually revealing a new device on Friday. Rather, it appears the company’s simply playing a game of “guess the smartphone” (the phone is already available in the US, apparently) and the answer will be unveiled on Friday.

FCC Fridays: August 3, 2012

FCC Fridays August 3, 2012

We here at Engadget tend to spend a lot of way too much time poring over the latest FCC filings, be it on the net or directly on the ol’ Federal Communications Commission’s site. Since we couldn’t possibly (want to) cover all the stuff that goes down there individually, we’ve gathered up an exhaustive listing of every phone and / or tablet getting the stamp of approval over the last week. Enjoy!
