eBay’s latest initiative is a little different from its more recent efforts that have focused mostly on re-branding and expanding the reach of PayPal. Sell it Forward encourages users to sell their used clothes and donate half the proceeds to Goodwill. The pilot program is currently only available in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin, though the company is going out of its way to make the process as painless as possible for those in eligible areas. Instead of creating listings for each item, wannabe auctioneers need only fill the pre-paid mailing bag (provided by eBay) with the clothes and accessories they wish to sell. Everything else will be taken care of for them. Employees will decide if your wares are in decent enough condition to sell, create a listing and, if the item is sold within 14 days, split the proceeds between the “seller” and Goodwill. If the item remains unsold for 14 days it becomes a straight donation to the charity. If you’re in one of the trial areas and want to give Sell it Forward a go yourself, hit up the source link.

Apple’s Mysterious Ebay Storefront Sells Macs For Less Than the Apple Refurb Store
Posted in: Today's Chili Since last October, there’s been a store on Ebay that goes by the name Refurbished_Outlet, and it only sells Apple products. Although there’s no contact information and little Apple corporate branding, 9to5Mac and AppleInsider think it’s an official Apple outlet, because it sells official Apple refurbs. As you may know, Apple refurbs are already one of the best deals you can get, mostly because they come with the same one-year Applecare warranty that new Macs come with. Recently, the Ebay deals have been even better than Apple’s official refurbished storefront. More »
Trade-in programs are a dime a dozen nowadays, and it seems that eBay is doing us all a favor and killing one of its own in order to cut down the number of them floating around on the internet. eBay’s Instant Sale trade-in program — where users can trade in their electronics for a set amount of cash — is shutting its doors.
eBay recently underwent a redesign, and it seems that the company is continuing to streamline its service, with the removal of the trade-in program. However, it doesn’t seem to be a lack of sales that gave Instant Sale the ax, since around four million offers were submitted since the service launched in 2011.
Rather, eBay says that they discontinued the trade-in program “based on the results of recent eBay selling pilots,” as well as the company’s “development of more simplified and personalized selling experiences.” Instead, eBay will “continue to focus on developing new, simplified and streamlined mobile and online selling experiences,” but are working to explore different selling options for the future.
However, there are numerous other trade-in programs that you can take advantage of if you’re looking to quickly get some cash for your electronics, Gazelle being a popular option, as well as Glyde and NextWorth. If you’re looking to get more money out of your items, though, consider Craigslist or an actual eBay auction, where even after the selling fees, items can fetch for a competitive price.

You know something? Back in the day when there was no Sony Mobile, it was Sony Ericsson, and I still remember the buzz that surrounded the Sony Ericsson T68i that came with a color display and Bluetooth connectivity, now was that novel or what? Well, here is a relic from the past as it still carries the Sony Ericsson name, although its appearance on eBay is definitely a pleasant one, being a Windows Phone prototype smartphone that ran on the Windows Phone platform.
Originally leaked in March a couple of years ago, it was captured on video as recently as June last year. The Sony Ericsson Jolie is a slider smartphone, where it underwent testing to see whether it is worthy enough to adopt the Windows Phone platform. There were only a few of these Jolie prototypes around, and one of them is now on eBay, featuring an early Windows Phone 7 build while sporting 16GB of internal memory and an 8-megapixel shooter. Right now, bids have yet to break the €200 mark, but with slightly more than a week to go for the auction, you might kiss goodbye to that price ceiling soon. [Auction Page]

Sony Ericsson Windows Phone prototype hits eBay, reminds us sliders existed
Posted in: Today's ChilieBay is as close as it comes to a genuine Aladdin’s cave, and we’ve seen plenty of ancient rarities, prototypes, sci-fi weaponry, and the odd killer robot go under its gavel. One of the latest artifacts of interest comes from eBay’s Netherlands site, which is hosting an auction for a Windows Phone prototype slider known to her friends as Julie (or Jolie, depending on where you look in the listing) from the now defunct Sony Ericsson partnership. The phone that never was from the company that is no longer is allegedly one of only seven units made, and is touted as having an 8-megapixel shooter and 16 gigs of storage. Some digging through the XDA Developers’ forum suggests the handset’s old Windows Phone 7 ROM is basically non-functional, so don’t expect to plug in your SIM and stroll out the door with a useable device. If that doesn’t put you off, however, there’s no exorbitant entry price, and bids remain sensible, for now. Head to the listing below for more pictures and to get in on the action, but bear in mind the only shipping options are for Europe. Nothing a PM with an outrageous offer won’t rectify, surely.
Update: The seller has been in contact to let us know that international shipping is now available, and while the WP7 ROM running on the handset is by no means a final build, there are no issues with voice calling, the camera or Bluetooth.

eBay will be revamping its homepage tomorrow to give it more of a Pinterest-esque feel. This new design, while it looks very nice, will also spell trouble for your wallet. The new homepage will allow you to create a custom feed filled with your favorite interests, brands, and trends. Everytime you visit the eBay home page, new items will pop up that match your customized feed, leading to more temptation to buy things. The feed will also continuously update while you’re shopping around on eBay.
This new look and feel was designed by eBay to help “personalize” its users’ shopping experience. By allowing shoppers to create a list composed of the items they love, eBay believes it can offer a more personalized and helpful shopping experience. The new homepage does look a lot more attractive than the current eBay layout, which currently shows your recent searches, eBay’s deals, and “popular on eBay” listings.
This new change will definitely help eBay in terms of revenue and profit, and it should make the eBay shopping experience more pleasant and fast-paced. The new homepage was tested with 10% of shoppers back in October, and it received a lot of positive feedback. eBay plans on launching a mobile app featuring the new look and feel sometime in the future.
That being said, you can actually begin customizing your eBay shopping feed right now. The feed creation wizard will guide you step-by-step through the process, starting with a list of items you have searched for in the past. You have to add 5 items to your list before you can view it. There is also an option to have updates from your list sent directly to your e-mail, which of course can result in you spending more money. Have fun shopping!

If you’re a fan of RoboCop — and if you were a child of the ’80s, why wouldn’t you be? — then today might be your lucky day. A ten-foot-tall prop of the executive-gunning ED-209 is now available for purchase on eBay for the low, low price of $25,000. Okay, so that’s not exactly cheap for what isn’t even a real working bot, likely made as either a stand-in or a marketing piece. It also apparently needs a couple of wooden planks to stand on its own and was built for the infinitely less cool RoboCop 2. Still, did we mention this thing is ten feet tall? And its leg extensions contain metal bars and pneumatic cylinders? And there are real electrical connections below the legs there? Sure, it might not actually power up, but it’s certainly more intimidating than the robotic officers we have now. So go ahead and bid on it if you have the cash; just keep it away from stairs.

If you grew up in the 80s and early 90s, you watched RoboCop. The movie was incredibly cheesy, but is one of those classic films from the youth of many geeks. If you’re huge fan of that movie, you can now own your very own ED-209if you win the auction on eBay.
Fear not, this ED-209 won’t mistakenly accuse you of a crime and then gun you down in your living room. However, if you can’t live without it, the robot will kill your checkbook. You can pick up this ED-209 prop for $25,000 on eBay.
The prop is reportedly an actual Hollywood prop constructed for RoboCop 2. Your $25,000 will get you an incredibly cool statue to help keep those pesky kids off your lawn. One thing that remains unclear is whether or not the prop was actually used in the movie.
There is some indication that this could have been a prop used to help promote the movie and was never actually used on film. I wonder if ED-209 can stand up without those sticks attached to its back legs. I will be very surprised if this movie prop sells for that kind of money.
