Adobe takes to new hardware like Project Mighty and Napoleon

adobe-mighty-penWho would have thought that Adobe would churn out hardware apart from software that they are so famous for? Adobe originally shared their vision for the Creative Cloud at MAX, where they claimed that this would open up the door for innovation and ultimately, help empower a new generation of creative folk. Of course, in order to make that vision come to pass, Adobe has decided to dip their toes into the world of creative hardware, and in this particular milestone, Adobe has introduced the idea of two devices – the cloud pen known as Project Mighty as well as the digital ruler that they call Project Napoleon. In order to bring both devices to pass as part of our reality, Adobe has teamed up with Adonit, who happens to be an awesome band of manufacturers that also believe in the power of creative devices that are paired with apps and services. The Adobe Mighty and Napoleon are tipped to ship sometime in the first half of next year.

In an early demonstration of Project Mighty, this unique creative pen happens to be pressure sensitive, which allow the artist in you to draw out natural and expressive lines. Not only that, the Project Mighty will be hooked up to the Creative Cloud, which enables one to tote one’s favorite personal digital assets wherever he or she goes, in addition to brushes and colors, not to mention the ability to copy and paste across devices, among others. No longer do you have to make the either-or decision of having the accuracy, expressiveness and immediacy of pen and paper while sacrificing the wonders of the Creative Cloud. Folks who are familiar with Wacom’s digitizer tablet should be able to resonate with Project Mighty right from the get go.

Needless to say, pricing and availability details remain unclear, but rest assured, Adobe will reveal additional information in due time.

Sony 3-In-1 Walkman gives you sound in the round

Sony 3-in-1 walkman
There are some days where you just want some peace and quiet. Most of the time though, you want to be listening to music, and lots of it. The method in which you listen to your tunes has to change quite frequently as you are often thrust into different situations. You can’t blast your jams through speakers on the bus, and there’s really no need to use headphones at home. While there are a myriad of different earphones, sound systems, and other eardrum-shattering ways to listen to music, wouldn’t it be nice if everything was all in one place?

Sony has just recently revealed its new 3-in-1 Walkman Headphones. Seeing as I only associate ‘walkman’ with a portable cassette player, the idea of what they might provide nowadays was intriguing. There are two different models, and both are capable of being an MP3 player, headphones, and speakers.

The NWZ-WH505 is the ‘bigger and better’ option that will give you 16GB of storage (about 4,000 songs), 40mm drivers, and is supposed to have an LED backlit logo. The WH303 offers a fourth of the storage at 4GB, and the drivers are 30mm. This will also have the backlighting for the logo, and both are capable of running for 20 hours on one charge. If you’re in a rush, you can get one hour of play time from a 3 minute charge. Their pricing is not available at the moment, but given the timing of releasing this information, you can expect that we’ll know more in the coming weeks, and see it available before the end of the year.

r2-d2-moneybankSince young, I have always been told to save up for a rainy day, and not to spend frivolously. There is much wisdom in such sagely advice, but once in a while, I think it is perfectly all right and go nuts to blow the budget on something more extravagant. After all, you can never quite tell just how many more years you have left down the road, right? Well, if your child finds it difficult to save money, perhaps a little incentive in the form of the £39.95 Star Wars R2-D2 Interactive Money Bank might come in handy.

Heck, you do not even need to be a little child to want the Star Wars R2-D2 Interactive Money Bank for your own use, as we tend to gather a neat amount of spare change at the end of the day. After all, would you rather trust your daily savings in the belly of a porcelain porcine, or rather place the fate of your future in the extremely able and loyal R2-D2, whose actions in the past have included being a courier for a princess even under extremely dangerous situations, and helping out the most powerful Jedi ever before he turned? This R2-D2 will play nice with iOS and Android platforms, and sports the relevant lights and sounds that make the astromech droid so lovable. New Trent PowerPak Xtreme delivers enough juice when it matters

New-Trent-PowerPak-XtremeIn this day and age, it is extremely rare to chance upon someone who does not have a plethora of gizmos and gadgets in his or her possession. Rather, just go for a walk outside for a while as you take a break from whatever you are doing, and you will notice that most folks have their eyes glued on a particular mobile device, be it a smartphone, tablet, or in the future, a smartwatch even. These tools do help us in our lives, but sometimes, they tend to run out of battery power at the most inopportune of times, which clearly stinks especially when you need to send out that email or read a particular webpage. Not all smartphones and tablets come with an extended battery pack, but this is the precise reason for the existence of the New Trent PowerPak Xtreme.

To sweeten the deal just in case you are in two minds over whether to pick up the New Trent PowerPak Xtreme or not, you would be pleased to hear that this bad boy will now come with a drop proof and water resistant design, making it ideal for outdoor seekers as well as travel enthusiasts who want to make sure that their USB-based devices will remain powered up at any time, regardless of where they are. The New Trent PowerPak Xtreme will carry a massive 12,000mAh battery underneath the hood, where it also comes with dual USB ports that are able to do their part to juice up a couple of two mobile devices at the same time in an efficient manner.

I suppose those who tend to spend plenty of time in outdoor activities might see the importance of the PowerPak Xtreme a whole lot more than folks who live in the city, as it provides you with the freedom to explore the great outdoors or new cities without having to remain tethered to a wall outlet. This means the PowerPak Xtreme is good to go when it comes to other vigorous and adventurous outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and biking among others. The asking price for the New Trent PowerPak Xtreme stands at $59.95 a pop.

Auris Skye delivers music sans them pesky wires

auris-skyeAt first glance, I thought that the Auris Skye was some sort of new Wi-Fi router or an equivalent device, but the innovative form factor delivers something else. The Auris Skye is actually a Wi-Fi music receiver for your dock which will allow you to live out a wireless lifestyle, as you stream your tunes without any cables through the “magic” of AirPlay or DLNA. This is an interesting bit of technology, where one is able to enjoy high resolution audio from your iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone or iTunes among others, without being limited by cables while having the full freedom to move around.

The Auris Skye will arrive in a sleek, stylish and intuitive form factor, where it can easily slide onto the 30-pin docking station for effortless playback. Not only that, you can also opt to add Skye to your Wi-Fi network, where after following the connection instructions on the free Skye control app, you are then able to stream your very own audio samples and collection wirelessly from your iOS, Android, Windows phone devices and Mac/PC in your Wi-Fi network thanks to AirPlay (for iOS) and DLNA (for Android and Windows) support. All of that are accomplished while you remain connected to the Internet, now how does that sound? In addition, we found out that the Auris Skye relies on Apple Lossless technology so that every note remains beautifully clear.

Apart from that, AirPlay or DLNA support would also translate to you having the total freedom to roam throughout your home without having to worry about keeping your device close to the speakers. It will be different from Bluetooth receivers which limit you to a certain wireless range, and the Auris Skye also has the advantage of letting you stream music to multiple docks one at a time or do so simultaneously with iTunes on a Mac or PC. Expect the Auris Skye to arrive in arctic white, piano black and titanium shades for $89 a pop should it manage to collect enough pledges on Kickstarter to get going.

Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker gets a hardware refresh

phoenix-v2We did talk about the Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker in the past, and this time around, it is about time there has been a hardware refresh introduced to keep up with the times. As usual, do not judge a book by its cover is an adage that folks would do well to adhere to, as one should not judge the performance of a particular portable wireless speaker based on its size. The £59.99 Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker might be extremely diminutive in nature, but it is capable of pumping out thumpin’ volume levels, coming in a choice of black, blue and red colors.

Charging up the Phoenix Portable Bluetooth Speaker is done via the included mini USB cable that is located at the bottom, where one gets to enjoy up to 10 hours of play time. There is also a particularly neat 3 button interface that is located on top of the Phoenix 2, where it would enable you to skip tracks, adjust the volume level and synchronize with all your devices in double quick time. Relying on Bluetooth connectivity would mean you need not have to worry about a wired mess ever again, and it even sports a working range of up to 20 metres, now how about that?

Laser Twilight Stars Projector brings the planetarium experience home

laserstarSo your little one loves to go stargazing, and sometimes, you wish that you were able to provide him or her with as many number of trips possible when night falls and all the stars come out to play. Well, it is a good thing that technology has advanced to a point where you can purchase a substitute, although do bear in mind that at the end of the day, it will never be able to amount to the real deal. The $169.99 Laser Twilight Stars Projector might not be astronomically accurate, but it does allow your entire room, ceiling and walls resemble that of a beautiful night sky as it projects green laser stars and blue clouds.

Works best whenever you turn the lights off (but of course!), and it is really fantastic to figure out that a device like this, where it measures approximately 10” in height, is capable of projecting a combination of green laser stars and blue clouds onto your ceiling, walls, and heck, you might even make that constantly sleeping dog of yours as a “screen” of sorts, too! The clouds as well as stars will look as though they are constantly on the move and morphing from one shape to another, depicting a universe that is “alive”, and thousands of green laser stars to bowl yourself over.

HDTV from Seiki takes on a retro look

seikiWhen it comes to the world of fashion, it is said that the old never really go out of style permanently. Sure, whatever is hip and happening at the moment might be shelved shortly for the next fad, but it will return eventually to make its mark once again sometime down the road, although as to when that will happen remains to be seen. I suppose the same can be said of design, as everyone loves a little bit of retro once in a while. Seiki Digital decided to take a modern day consumer electronics device and give it a touch of retro, resulting in the 22-inch Retro Design HDTV (which carries the model number SE22FR01).

The Retro Design HDTV’s name alone gives the game away, being a new and colorful nostalgic HDTV model. Depending on how you would want it to fit into your room, it will arrive in multiple retro colors such as Retro Red, Mid-century Yellow, Electric Blue, Doo-wop Purple, and Cadillac Pink. Not only that, you will also find the clock being dialled back thanks to the Retro Design HDTV’s power and volume dials.

Of course, do not be fooled by its looks, as the Retro Design HDTV will still come with all the bells and whistles of today’s HDTVs, and they include Full HD 1080p resolution on a 21.5” diagonal LED panel, 60Hz panel refresh rate, HDMI, component/composite, and VGA ports, and a remote control. Your ears too, will appreciate the fact that this HDTV will boast of a built-in subwoofer that delivers an amazing sound experience.

If you are interested in picking up the Retro Design HDTV, it will retail for $329 a pop. The one major drawback that I can say would affect sales figures of this particular HDTV would be the size. Compared to modern day HDTVs, the amount of chunkiness of this CRT impostor is definitely not going to go down well with those who love sleek and slim designs in their homes.
