LG Display has next generation display technology in the pipeline already

It goes without saying, where any company that intends to remain stagnant wherever they are in the market at the moment run the risk of being obsolete within a short period of time, especially in a highly competitive environment. The display market is one such dog-eat-dog world, and there is no room for rest, even for the established players. LG Display has had a pretty good record at rolling out fantastic looking displays in the past, and they do not seem as though they want to relinquish their position in the market by introducing their next generation display technology at SID 2013, with their now famous curved 55” OLED TV and 5” plastic OLED panels being on parade there.

SID stands for Society for Information Display, and at SID Display Week 2013, you can more or less say that LG Display has put up quite a show, where they used the opportunity to introduce a curved 55” OLED TV and a 5” plastic OLED panel. Apart from those two displays, there will also be other mobile panels on show which have been applied with Oxide Thin Film Transistor (TFT) that has a clear future as the next generation TFT technology.

Of course a curve 55” OLED display is always a wonder to look at and check out, we are more than interested in the world of possibilities that will open up where the unbreakable and flexible 5” plastic OLED panel which will be manufactured specially for mobile devices is concerned. Imagine a smartphone which has touchscreen capability, and best of all is, you will never, ever have to worry about a broken display. This bodes well for butterfingers, but it would also provide an impetus for hardware manufacturers to come up with a smartphone chassis that is tough enough to withstand all the drops and knocks that it would possibly go through. We cannot wait for the future to come fast enough, how about you?

MSI does it again with new GX70 and GX60 gaming laptops

I do not know about you, but for me, a gaming notebook is a poor (an extremely poor one at that) substitute for a full fledged gaming desktop. After all, you do not have the luxury of a really large display for your eyes to enjoy superb visuals, not to mention the kind of audio that is pumped out from your notebook speakers tend to be lame – very. Of course, if you are a gaming addict, then at any time that you need to get that gaming fix of yours going, a gaming notebook would be the ideal solution. After all, something is better than nothing at all, right? MSI certainly knows that they have a couple of models in the market that will appeal to the masses, and they are the new MSI GX70 and the GX60.

These are armed with the AMD A10-5750M processor, and will have the Radeon HD 8970M graphics and Killer Game Networking card to accompany the notebook for a totally enthralling gaming experience on the go. In fact, the new and refreshed MSI GX70 and GX60 notebooks would also be the first AMD Richland A10-5750M powered gaming notebooks in the world.

We are looking at an increase in visual performance by up to 40% over previous generations, and not only that, the new processor will also increase battery life and CPU performance, which results in longer gaming sessions alongside a crisper, brighter and a more realistic visual experience. The MSI GX70 will be the higher end model between the two, where it also sports AMD’s Eyefinity 3D technology which enables users to run multiple independent display outputs at once, while the Killer E2200 Game Networking card will theoretically eliminate lag time and a full color backlit SteelSeries Gaming Keyboard to get it going. Not only that, THX speakers with a built-in subwoofer are there for an ear thumping experience. Unlike just about all Ultrabooks in the market today, these two models will arrive with Blu-ray disc readers, a 1920×1080 full HD anti-reflective display and a 9 cell battery for extended mobile gaming pleasure. No idea on pricing or availability just yet though.

Remote Controlled Backyard Mosquito Mister

Sometimes, I do wonder whether some animals in this world are redundant. Case in point, does the pro of mosquito larvae being food for select animals outweigh the potential pest factor of a fully grown adult mosquito? Getting bitten by mosquitoes whenever you go out on a camping trip is no fun at all, you know. Thank goodness the advancements of technology in the modern world has led us to this particular road – a $299.95 Remote Controlled Backyard Mosquito Mister.

Should the Remote Controlled Backyard Mosquito Mister live up to its reputation (or at least, product description), then this backyard mister is capable of repelling mosquitoes within a 2,000 square feet area, and not only that, it can also be operated remotely from a safe distance away. It will rely on EPA-registered permethrin to get the job done, which so happens to be a synthetic form of naturally occurring pyrethrin that is derived from chrysanthemum, where it is good enough to kill up to 90% of mosquitoes, flies, gnats, no-see-ums, ticks, and other biting insects while repelling them for up to half a dozen hours with a mere four-minute misting. Don’t worry about toxicity levels, as permethrin biodegrades so fast, it is safe and gentle on the environment.

Sony develops Digital Paper device

Digital paper – does this particular term sound rather ironic to you? It does to us actually, although it is a kind of technology that we would more than welcome. Mention Sony and you would think of their Bravia TVs, the PlayStation consoles over the years, and of course, who can forget about the iconic portable music player line that kicked it all off – the Walkman? Having said that, Sony’s foray into the world of tablets has not exactly been an encouraging one to date where its track record is concerned, since their only major notable presence at this point in time would be the Sony Xperia Tablet Z. Well, perhaps they might be able to make larger strides than what they have already achieved with the aforementioned tablet if they were to incorporate some digital paper into future products. After all, Sony has successfully developed a 13.3” digital paper device, where the main aim would be to do away with paper educational materials and documents while helping improve learning effects and productivity among others.

Sony has every plan to propose new learning and working styles through the use of such a device, in addition to having it deliver, store, write and share electronic files over a network. As for the digital paper, Sony has made use of a 13.3” flexible electrophoretic display that relies on its own technology which will form TFTs on a plastic substrate with a high resolution (and that, our dear readers, would be the so-called electronic paper). This unique display can show up to 16 levels of grayscale and has a pixel count of 1,200 x 1,600.

Not only that, it is said that the thickness and mass of the digital paper are just 6.8mm if you do not take into consideration its pen holder and 358g, respectively. You can use it for up to three weeks on a single charge (and this is assuming that the Wi-Fi function is turned off, and PDF files are viewed for an hour each day), which will also include the use of the hand-writing function for five minutes per day. Anyone want to see Sony succeed?

iDockAll a Kickstarter project that needs your help

Newly created Wiplabs Design LLC has huge plans for the future, and in order to kick things off, they will first need to launch their maiden product that they have dubbed the iDockAll. IdockAll will not be made available to the masses right away, as it needs to have that crucial user base before things can happen at the production line, considering how iDockAll is a crowd-funding project over at Kickstarter. Just what makes the iDockAll so special from all the other docks that are available in the market? For starters, the iDockAll dock will boast of a unique design which enables continuous charging of the iOS devices. For the layman, that would mean you are able to answer calls even when your device’s battery is running low, checking out private messages while synchronization, writing emails on the iPad, just about anything and everything is possible.

In a nutshell, you can do all of the above mentioned while ensuring that the lithium battery is being charged up. The iDockAll sports a minimalistic design that is so well executed; users might actually figure out that the iDockAll was a creation by the folks over at Apple themselves. The iDockAll project kicked off on Kickstarter earlier this month, and it has until the end of June to gather the relevant funds.

Here is a little bit of context on how the iDockAll came about. Apple enthusiasts Nathalie De Clercq and Kevin Wippermann are old mates who hail from Belgium and were frustrated with the difficulties of docking and displaying their iOS devices (be they iPhones, iPads or iPods) considering how docks kept on changing with each device iteration released. March 2013 proved to be the turning point, as they decided to tackle the issue themselves, resulting in the iDockAll. This is the maiden non-constraining dock that plays nice with the whole iOS product range (Lightning and/or 30pin connector) and their covers, and in line with Apple’s design philosophy, it has been crafted out of a single block of aluminum for that added touch of class.

NVIDIA SHIELD – it isn’t a Handheld Xbox

I know I’m a little advanced in age to be a gamer… I guess most people that look at me wouldn’t guess that behind closed doors I’m likely to be found yelling at my screen, controller in hand, completely lost in battle. I’m a huge fan of first person shooter games, and dabble in just about anything else that even looks remotely entertaining. Yup, I’m addicted.

Xbox, Playstation, Wii (gasp) Have them all, but what about handhelds, shouldn’t they have a place in our hearts by now? Check out Nvidia’s Shield, a brand new handheld console, that at first glance, looks like surprisingly like an Xbox controller. This handheld has a 5-inch attached multi-touch flip screen, is wifi enabled, has high quality speakers and it runs on, um.. Android? Okay, in all fairness, the Shield ships with access to Google Play and Sonic 4, TegraZone, Rearmed and some other stuff like Hulu Plus. It also allows some Windows games running on a compatible PC to stream to your device via your local network. But I ask you all, is it enough?

The Nvidia Shield comes with a pretty hefty price tag, around 350 bucks, but I’m not exactly sure where the Shield fits in. There are certainly cheaper dedicated handhelds like the Vita, we already had Sony’s Remote Play and we run Android on our phones. I’m also not sure I love the analog joystick placement, and yet, why do I feel like I must have one?

So, if you find yourself similarly inclined, and a 350 dollar price tag doesn’t deter you, Nvidia has already started taking pre-orders for the Shield with what is expected to be a June release date. I don’t expect there will be a huge rush to the stores, but just maybe the Nvidia Shield will bring Android gaming to the next level… what do you think?

K-TOR Pocket Socket 2

You know something? Each time the brand name K-TOR comes across my mind, all I can think of is actually KOTOR, which happens to be short for Knights Of The Old Republic, which happens to be one of those Star Wars titles that only fanboys will be able to appreciate. Well, K-TOR so happens to be under our radar this time around, which is why I have started to get flashbacks of KOTOR, but I will do my utmost best to put those aside and concentrate on just what the K-TOR Pocket Socket 2 is able to deliver to the masses.

For starters, you are able to more or less tell that the Pocket Socket 2 has something to do with charging capabilities. It makes perfect sense, after all, K-TOR happens to be a designer and manufacturer of portable power generators, so the second generation release of the Pocket Socket hand crank generator has been named the Pocket Socket 2, which is definitely far from being inspiring by any means. The Pocket Socket 2 is a highly affordable human powered generator, where it boasts of a standard outlet interface that is capable of delivering backup energy and emergency power to a wide range of electronic devices.

After all, you can never quite tell just when a blackout is going to happen, and it makes perfect sense to be prepared at all times, so having the Pocket Socket 2 right by your bedside is always a good idea. There is the patented technology within the Pocket Socket 2 (in addition to the other K-TOR portable generators, of course) that enable the efficient conversion of human energy into a 120 volt power source. Just what are some of the other devices that the Pocket Socket 2 is able to charge? We are looking at smartphones, tablets, GPS equipment, handheld radios, digital cameras, and medical equipment among others. The Pocket Socket 2 can be yours for $64.95 a pop.
