Just like smartphones, camcorders, too, do end up in situations where you wished that you were able to put over a plastic bag during wet situations so that your camcorder does not end up as another drowned casualty by the river or at the swimming pool. Waterproof smartphones have started to pop up in aesthetically pleasing formats recently, and here we are with JVC having worked on a trio of rugged, weather-proof Everio models that will allow you to capture your precious memories regardless of the weather condition, all the while boasting of an internal, long-life battery of up to 4.5 hours on a single charge.

The three JVC Everio camcorders in question would be the GZ-R70, GZ-R30 and GZ-R10, where they all would boast of JVC’s Quad-Proof structure, namely water resistance to a depth of 5 meters/16.4 feet, the ability to withstand a drop from 1.5 meters/4.9 feet, as well as dust-proof and freeze-proof down to –10˚C/14˚F. Despite such impressive credentials, they all arrive packaged in a familiar camcorder form factor that should not make it strange or difficult to operate. Apart from that, they also float just in case you happen to have lost your grip while recording, now how about that?

This new range of camcorders also offer a combination of performance capabilities and innovative features for those who want to take their videos to go beyond what a smartphone or other camcorders are able to deliver. Apart from their weather- and shock-proof attributes, JVC’s new Everio camcorders will also boast of a 40x optical zoom, 2.5 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, audio which can zooms with the picture, as well as compatibility with third-party editing software, where among them include iMovie and Final Cut Pro X.

The Everio GZ-R70 will retail for $499.95 a pop, as it arrives with 32GB of internal memory, while the $449.95 Everio GZ-R30 has 8GB of internal memory, with the $399.95 GZ-R10 arriving with just a memory card slot (the other two has memory card slots as well). Any takers?

I can’t believe it, but it seems that the trend of introducing a “mini” version of an existing device has moved on from the world of smartphones over to the digital camera environment. This time around, it would be South Korean conglomerate Samsung that flies the flag, having introduced their latest ‘star’, which is the all new Samsung NX mini SMART camera, which somewhat brings back memories of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini and its ilk. The Samsung NX mini is touted to be the world’s slimmest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera, where the body tips the scales at a mere 158 grams, with an extremely slim 22.5mm design.

Just what can shutterbugs expect from the Samsung NX mini? Well, for starters, it will come with a 75.2mm (3.0-inch) Flip up and Touch Display that can flip itself 180-degrees around, not to mention accompanied by a 20.5MP BSI CMOS Sensor, 6fps Continuous Shot, and 1/16000 sec Shutter Speed among others. Of course, what good is a camera’s body if it does not have the appropriate type of lens to go along with it? This is why Samsung has not forgotten about this extremely important aspect, which is they they will also introduce a trio of NX mini lens (NX-M) in the form of the NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED lens, NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS lens, and NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lens.

Samsung intends to market the Samsung NX mini as a “go-to” device for great photography, letting users shoot special moments in stunning detail. Apart from that, it will also boast of NFC and Wi-Fi capabilities, so that users can capture impressive shots which can then be shared quickly and easily, allowing friends to enjoy it in real time. With a solid premium metal body alongside a luxurious leatherette finish, you can be sure that it does not look cheap – far from it. The fashionistas would also not mind carrying this around as it comes in five different colors (white, pink, mint green, brown and black) so that users are able to choose the color that best suits their style.

TAO-Wellness was at CES 2014 earlier this year, where the startup company paraded their TAO WellShell to the world as a prototype device. This time around, they have decided to enlist the assistance of popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter in order to meet consumer demand, and in due time, deliver the world’s first mobile, isometric exercise system. TAO happens to be a portable, interactive and motivating exercise tool which is capable of transforming downtime into exercise time – something that busy folks and executives these days would like to hear more about, I suppose. The patented TAO system would include the handheld device, which is known as the TAO WellShell, where it will be accompanied by a comprehensive app for Android and iOS devices. Kickstarter would have opened up their doors to the TAO system already, as backers can drop by and see whether they are willing to give it a chance of being birthed all the way through April 17, 2014. Apart from that, should it be successful in raising the necessary amount of funds, expect TAO to be delivered later this fall.

Just how does TAO work? The premise is extremely simple – you push, TAO resists. TAO would arrive with over 50 isometric exercises that are explained clearly in the phone app so that there should not be any way that you injure yourself or do it wrongly. Just hold the TAO WellShell in your hands (against your thighs, between your knees, etc.) and press it. Push really hard, and TAO’s app will coach you to press more or press less, alongside the duration on holding it. Not only that, it will guide you with a path so that you are able to follow and measure the force which you apply. It also has a ‘heart’ so to speak, as it can remind you of when to rest as well as the number of reps which you ought to perform.

I’m not sure how far this will go in helping you lose weight and shape up, but it sounds like a real decent proposition.

It does seem as though the smartwatch market segment is all set to scale greater heights than ever before, with word that Google will be releasing the Android Wear platform that makes wearable technology all the more viable in everyday life. Motorola did announce their Moto 360 smartwatch earlier this week, and South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has decided to hit back with a reply of their own, calling it the LG G Watch. This LG G Watch will run on Android Wear, and that makes it play nice with a wide range of Android smartphones, as it works to offer you relevant information as and when you require. Alternatively, you can just speak “OK Google” to the LG G Watch, ask it a question, and get stuff done.

LG, being one of Google’s lead partners in this effort, has plans in their pipeline to introduce the LG G Watch to the masses sometime in the second quarter of this year, so we should not see it being delayed beyond June 2014. The LG G Watch that is powered by Android Wear is touted to offer a low barrier to entry for developers, and not only that, it also claims to offer the best Google experience for users. I suppose only time will tell when the device is finally delivered to the masses.

LG engineers have been said to have worked closely with Google from the initial stages of development to ensure that the LG G Watch worked perfectly with Android Wear. This makes the LG G Watch as LG’s fourth device developed in close collaboration with Google, where the previous three models would be the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition.
