JVC takes the waterproof route with new Everio camcorders

JVC GZ-R10BJust like smartphones, camcorders, too, do end up in situations where you wished that you were able to put over a plastic bag during wet situations so that your camcorder does not end up as another drowned casualty by the river or at the swimming pool. Waterproof smartphones have started to pop up in aesthetically pleasing formats recently, and here we are with JVC having worked on a trio of rugged, weather-proof Everio models that will allow you to capture your precious memories regardless of the weather condition, all the while boasting of an internal, long-life battery of up to 4.5 hours on a single charge.

The three JVC Everio camcorders in question would be the GZ-R70, GZ-R30 and GZ-R10, where they all would boast of JVC’s Quad-Proof structure, namely water resistance to a depth of 5 meters/16.4 feet, the ability to withstand a drop from 1.5 meters/4.9 feet, as well as dust-proof and freeze-proof down to –10˚C/14˚F. Despite such impressive credentials, they all arrive packaged in a familiar camcorder form factor that should not make it strange or difficult to operate. Apart from that, they also float just in case you happen to have lost your grip while recording, now how about that?

This new range of camcorders also offer a combination of performance capabilities and innovative features for those who want to take their videos to go beyond what a smartphone or other camcorders are able to deliver. Apart from their weather- and shock-proof attributes, JVC’s new Everio camcorders will also boast of a 40x optical zoom, 2.5 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, audio which can zooms with the picture, as well as compatibility with third-party editing software, where among them include iMovie and Final Cut Pro X.

The Everio GZ-R70 will retail for $499.95 a pop, as it arrives with 32GB of internal memory, while the $449.95 Everio GZ-R30 has 8GB of internal memory, with the $399.95 GZ-R10 arriving with just a memory card slot (the other two has memory card slots as well). Any takers?

This is why Samsung has not forgotten about this extremely important aspect, which is they they will also introduce a trio of NX mini lens (NX-M) in the form of the NX-M 9mm F3.5 ED lens, NX-M 9-27mm F3.5-5.6 ED OIS lens, and NX-M 17mm F1.8 OIS lens.

NODE+ Wireless Sensor Platform lets you measure plenty

nodeA wise man did tell me once before, that anything which you can measure, you are able to improve. Hence, it is not a surprise at all to find out that the folks over at ThinkGeek have come up with a slew of rather interesting devices – which will range anywhere from $24.99 all the way to $149.99 a pop for the NODE+ Wireless Sensor Platform.

Just what is the NODE+ Wireless Sensor Platform all about, anyway? This happens to be a wireless, handheld sensor which allows you to measure plenty of different things. You will be able to choose from an iOS or Android base unit with gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer. Apart from that, just like old school LEGO fun where you can “augment” the original creation with more bricks, you can also pick an add-on such as a color or temperature scanner.

NODE can also be described as a wireless, handheld sensor base unit, where the base unit features a 3-axis gyroscope, 3-axis accelerometer, and 3-axis magnetometer and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, in addition to enough space for another pair of add-on sensors. These add-ons include a Barcode Scanner, a Chroma Color Scanner, a Clima sensor, an I/O, a Luma Light and a Therma Sensor. It is also Arduino-compatible with open API, open firmware, and open source code, virtually allowing you to transform it into anything that you require.

TAO mobile isometric exercise system is a world’s first

taoTAO-Wellness was at CES 2014 earlier this year, where the startup company paraded their TAO WellShell to the world as a prototype device. This time around, they have decided to enlist the assistance of popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter in order to meet consumer demand, and in due time, deliver the world’s first mobile, isometric exercise system. TAO happens to be a portable, interactive and motivating exercise tool which is capable of transforming downtime into exercise time – something that busy folks and executives these days would like to hear more about, I suppose. Let us read more about how TAO works right after the jump.

The patented TAO system would include the handheld device, which is known as the TAO WellShell, where it will be accompanied by a comprehensive app for Android and iOS devices. Kickstarter would have opened up their doors to the TAO system already, as backers can drop by and see whether they are willing to give it a chance of being birthed all the way through April 17, 2014. Apart from that, should it be successful in raising the necessary amount of funds, expect TAO to be delivered later this fall.

Just how does TAO work? The premise is extremely simple – you push, TAO resists. TAO would arrive with over 50 isometric exercises that are explained clearly in the phone app so that there should not be any way that you injure yourself or do it wrongly. Just hold the TAO WellShell in your hands (against your thighs, between your knees, etc.) and press it. Push really hard, and TAO’s app will coach you to press more or press less, alongside the duration on holding it. Not only that, it will guide you with a path so that you are able to follow and measure the force which you apply. It also has a ‘heart’ so to speak, as it can remind you of when to rest as well as the number of reps which you ought to perform.

I’m not sure how far this will go in helping you lose weight and shape up, but it sounds like a real decent proposition.

LG G Watch will run on Android Wear

lg-g-watchIt does seem as though the smartwatch market segment is all set to scale greater heights than ever before, with word that Google will be releasing the Android Wear platform that makes wearable technology all the more viable in everyday life. Motorola did announce their Moto 360 smartwatch earlier this week, and South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has decided to hit back with a reply of their own, calling it the LG G Watch. This LG G Watch will run on Android Wear, and that makes it play nice with a wide range of Android smartphones, as it works to offer you relevant information as and when you require. Alternatively, you can just speak “OK Google” to the LG G Watch, ask it a question, and get stuff done.

LG, being one of Google’s lead partners in this effort, has plans in their pipeline to introduce the LG G Watch to the masses sometime in the second quarter of this year, so we should not see it being delayed beyond June 2014. The LG G Watch that is powered by Android Wear is touted to offer a low barrier to entry for developers, and not only that, it also claims to offer the best Google experience for users. I suppose only time will tell when the device is finally delivered to the masses.

LG engineers have been said to have worked closely with Google from the initial stages of development to ensure that the LG G Watch worked perfectly with Android Wear. This makes the LG G Watch as LG’s fourth device developed in close collaboration with Google, where the previous three models would be the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, shared, “The opportunity to work with Google on LG G Watch was the perfect chance for LG to really pull out all stops in both design and engineering. With the LG G Watch, LG is continuing the milestones we’ve set in wearables following in the footsteps of the world’s first 3G Touch Watch Phone in 2009 and the Prada Link in 2008. We’re confident that a well-designed device has the potential to take the smart wearable market by storm.”

Moto 360 smartwatch announced

moto360Could 2014 be the year of the smartwatch? It very well could be, really, if recent developments are anything to go by. With Google dropping an announcement on their Android Wear platform, here we are with Motorola jumping aboard the smartwatch bandwagon with one of their creations that they have called the Moto 360. The Moto 360 happens to be a timepiece that not only looks good, but it also feels great as it provides you with the kind of information that you need, as and when required.

I suppose you can more or less call the Moto 360 a truly modern timepiece, although it still has a long way to go before it is lumped under the complex timepieces that are created by the likes of Breitling and Rolex. The Moto 360 is designed by Motorola and powered by Android Wear, where it will be able to keep you on time as well as up to date without taking you out of the moment or distracting you. In fact, some might even think of it as sentient to a certain extent, as the Moto 360 is capable of telling you just what you need to know prior to you knowing it yourself via subtle alerts and notifications.

A simple twist of the wrist would allow you to check out just who is the one sending you an email or dropping a phone call, in addition to what time your next meeting at the office is, or to check out a friend’s latest social post. The Moto 360 is also subservient to your voice, where all you need to do is say “Ok Google” and you can fire away questions for it to get stuff done including the likes of scheduling an appointment, sending a text, setting an alarm or taking a note. It remains to be seen just how Motorola will price the Moto 360, but exciting times are ahead of us!
