LG unveils 55” OLED TV in the UK

You know that most modern day homes these days have a large, flat screen TV sitting in the middle of the living room, but how many of those do look as sexy as what LG has to offer? LG Electronics has just announced their latest 55” OLED TV for folks living in the UK, and just in case you were wondering, yes, this is the model that laid claim to the “world’s first” title, where it was showcased exclusively at Harrods Technology, and will be made available to those who have placed their pre-order as it is delivered later this July.

The LG OLED TV, also known as the 55EM970V if model numbers are your cup of tea, measures a scintillating 4.5mm thin, and despite its 55” size, it weighs under 10 kilograms, now how about that? Despite being super thin that we still find it rather difficult to believe, it is still capable of producing exceptional picture quality as well as delivering spectacularly vivid and accurate colors, thanks to its superior WRGB technology.

Brian Na, President of LG Electronics UK, said, “We are proud to be the first in the world to offer consumers a big screen OLED TV. LG’s next generation display is a true game changer, which will forever alter the way we think about TVs. Since OLED TV was first unveiled, we’ve been working tirelessly to bring what we call ‘the ultimate display’ to market. I’m sure you’ll agree that our 55-inch OLED TV has definitely been worth the wait.”

LG’s OLED TV will merge their leading Smart TV technology and Cinema 3D capabilities, in addition to edge-to-edge Cinema Screen Design, resulting in the most immersive and complete home entertainment experience, not to mention having the kind of stunning style to go along with it. The asking price for the LG 55EM970V? It retails for a whopping £9,999.99. Eeps!

iTap sends juice out, and not water

If there is one thing that can be considered to be the bane of modern day devices, it would be this – they tend to run out of battery at the end of the day, and sometimes when you are too preoccupied with the rest of the day’s cares and concerns, you forget to charge up said device only to be greeted by the “Low battery” signal when you wake up, and there is just not enough time for you to juice it up as you need to leave the house real soon to beat the morning rush hour. Thing is, if you had something like the £19.95 iTap, surely you would remember to power up your devices’ tired batteries at the end of the day because of its novel design.

Called the iTap for obvious reasons, the iTap charger is made out of durable, lightweight white plastic, is a snap to use and can be toted around without much fuss. The tap can be turned on and off, and when your handset is charging, the light will change from red to blue. This is one tap that will not send water out when you turn it.

100 Greatest Classics Audio Book

What do you think of today’s children – do you think that they tend to read a whole lot less, simply because of technology that has dulled one’s senses to the wonders and joys of reading, not to mention the “I want it now!” generation simply do not have the patience of sitting through an entire book, especially when there is a movie adaptation that can be downloaded on demand. Heck, you might as well let the CGI artists do the imagination on your kids’ behalf while they’re at it, too, which is what is happening.

Well, make sure the art of reading has a chance for the next generation with the $99.95 100 Greatest Classics Audio Book. Granted, it is not exactly encouraging the little ones to read, but at least it reads out aloud, causing the hearer’s brain to work overtime and imagine the scenes, sights and sounds described, instead of having everything dumped in front of you in the way that a movie does. This 100 Greatest Classics Audio Book is a lightweight player that comes pre-loaded with unabridged texts by authors such as Charles Dickens, Mark Twain and Jane Austen. Some of the classic novels would include Moby-Dick and Treasure Island, in addition to short stories by O. Henry and Kipling, plays by Ibsen and Shakespeare, and philosophical treatises by Nietzsche and Aristotle.

Trakdot Luggage pre-order is now available

Earlier this year, we did talk about the Trakdot Luggage and its debut at CES in Las Vegas, Nevada. Well, frequent travelers would be able to tell you that they appreciate nothing more than a quick whisk to the nearest hotel from the airport, especially after a particularly long flight that saw them cross multiple time zones, throwing their internal body clock out of what by several hours, too. To hear news from the airline counter that your luggage has been delayed, or even worse, it has arrived but somehow misplaced, is definitely the last thing that you have on your mind. Well, the Trakdot Luggage is here to help in such a situation, and Trakdot is more than well pleased to announce that they are now accepting pre-orders for the Trakdot Luggage device.

The Trakdot Luggage was created by GlobaTrac, LLC , a name that should be familiar among those who deal with low cost tracking solutions. The Trakdot Luggage works this way – you fit it into a checked bag, where it will then be able to report the city or airport location in real time to any designated cellular telephone. If you are always on the forefront of technology and want to be an early adopter by placing an order on Trakdot.com before April 27 this year, then you will be able to enjoy a waiver on your activation fee.

The Trakdot Luggage should be able to offer a degree of peace of mind for travelers, especially when you have valuables in your luggage. This should go some way in reducing the amount of stress when traveling. Using the Trakdot Luggage is a cinch, all you need to do is register the tracker, turn it on, place it in your luggage of choice, and you’re good to go. Trakdot relies on cell technology instead of GPS to triangulate an active device’s location.

The Trakdot Luggage will arrive later this June for $49.99, where it is accompanied by an activation fee of $8.99 and an annual service fee of $12.99.

NUU MiniKey for iPhone 5

Ever since Apple rolled out the first generation iPhone back in 2007, the world has more or less had to get used to typing on a virtual keyboard where their smartphones are concerned. Not only that, we have also seen the decline of the QWERTY keyboard on such devices that come in a slide-out design, or are part of the physical make up right from the get go. Thing is, typing on a virtual keyboard is not the easiest thing to do especially when you are busy working out of the office and need to get that 20-page report out as soon as possible. Sure, there are other accessories out there that can help you apart from software such as Swype on the Android platform to make life a whole lot easier, and here is another option that you might just want to consider – the NUU MiniKey for iPhone 5.

NUU is one of the more notable mobile accessories manufacturers who want to improve the functionality of mobile devices through their collection of innovative products, and has just unveiled the MiniKey for iPhone 5 recently. Levitron Lamp

You might not be the wise old man sitting at the top of an impossible-to-climb mountain, and neither are you a swami who sleeps on a bed of nails, but this does not mean you are unable to make things levitate. Thing is, you will first need to lighten your bank account by $150 before you are able to get hold of the Levitron Lamp which is light as air, and the middle bit of the lamp does seem as though it is “missing”, hence leaving the top bit floating .

The Levitron Lamp is lit by half a dozen cool-white, high-intensity LEDs, where this illusionary lamp will blend both art with innovative technology into accent lighting. Definitely the way to leave a lasting impression, don’t you think so? Thanks to the power of magnetism, this apparently gravity-defying “shade” of the lamp will remain suspended over an inch above its base, making it look as though it remains floating on a halo of light. Some assembly required, so you might want to enlist some help from your man to get it up and running.

LED Ampli-TIE gives you an electrifying appearance

Everyone wants to look their best, it is in our nature always to put our best foot forward. After all, who would like to play the role of a slacker? Nobody, really, unless one does not really care about what the world thinks of them. Well, here is a unique addition to your wardrobe, where it comes in the form of the LED Ampli-TIE which could very well be a DIY project. Basically, your average, boring looking necktie can now be transformed, given a new lease of life as you light it up like a VU meter.

The LED Ampli-TIE will rely on the Electret Microphone Amplifier to that will then trigger 16 Flora NeoPixels which has been sewn using conductive thread along the entire length of the tie in order for it to work. Of course, if you are going to embark on this project on your own, you would definitely need to have a fair amount of DIY knowledge, especially when it comes to Flora, the Adafruit Microphone Amplifier Breakout, and conductive thread among others. Since there are electric bits and pieces all over, should you find a need to wash your LED Ampli-TIE after spilling some curry or wine on it, make sure you remove the battery and perform a gentle spot clean, as water should be refrained from getting into the microphone.

Electric Stun Sword is certainly one menacing weapon

Which would you prefer to be on the receiving end of? The razor sharp edge of the sword, or being tased to the ground, having jolts of electricity course through your body as though you were wrecked by Force Lightning by Emperor Palpatine? Well, come to think of it, isn’t being hit by a lightsaber somewhat a similar feeling like the Electric Stun Sword? After all, it cuts through just about anything, and is made up of pure energy? The Electric Stun Sword is actually the brainchild of a certain YouTube user known as Jonathan, where he was experimenting with a double-bladed Shock Mod Ninja Sword in order to imbue it with Taser-like functionality. Sounds as though it is one of those science fiction weapons, but it is very, very real.

Needless to say, since this is a DIY project, it will obviously lack the finesse of a particular weapon that was fashioned out from the fires of Mount Doom. I digress, Jonathan obviously does not have the advantage of an actual weapons factory that churns out precisely tuned weapons, but at the very least, the sword’s practical function works as painful as its namesake. On the Electric Stun Sword lies a utilitarian but functional “On” switch which can be activated to turn on the shock function, and since stun guns run off a power source or battery, it will require a regular wall socket plug located at the end of the grip which was specially designed to charge the weapon.

According to Jonathan, he was inspired to come up with the Taser Sword after he saw another YouTube user by the name of GreekGadgetGuru. What is the whole point of this DIY project if it was not tested in the real world? Jonathan decided to play the role of guinea pig, and had a friend of his touch him with the sword, which should be demonstration enough to avoid one of these when unsheathed.

Hands-Free Toilet Seat

They say that a great marriage is built on a solid foundation of love, communication and understanding. The thing is, sometimes when different aspects of those ingredients are missing, there are still other flash points in a relationship that could spark off an argument, or worse, the silent treatment being meted out for days at a time. One of those might actually be the age old toilet seat issue (or at least, ever since the toilet seat came into existence), where girls prefer the guys to put down the toilet seat once they’re done with their business, while us guys wished that the toilet seat isn’t even down in the first place.

Well, the $199.95 Hands-Free Toilet Seat says it all, it will be able to raise and lower the seat automatically, and you can be sure that it not only saves contamination, but perhaps, even marriages as well! All you need to do is step in front of the sensor zone and the seat lid will rise automatically as though you were a Jedi Knight who wielded the power of the Force, and half a minute after you step away, both seat and lid will automatically return to the down position. It takes just minutes to install, and there is no need for any special tools to boot. Each purchase is accompanied by a lithium-ion battery and AC power adapter/charger.
