Grace Digital introduces Encore Stereo Wi-Fi Music System

gracedigitalIf you have not heard of Grace Digital before, perhaps it is about time you did so. They happen to be a leader when it comes to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and networked audio solutions, and this time around, they have decided to roll out the Encore (GDI-IRC7500) Stereo Wi-Fi Music System, where it will make an appearance on Amazon.com. The Encore Stereo Wi-Fi Music System boasts of an impressive tweeter and woofer arrangement, where it is more or less guaranteed of delivering clearer vocals as well as deeper bass in comparison to what the industry standard has in store.

Using the Grace Digital Encore, all that a user needs to do would be to hook up to their Wi-Fi network, where they can then gain instant access to just about any preferred internet radio station thanks to one-touch presets. There are more than 50,000 free internet radio stations, podcast, and endless on-demand content for one to choose from, where among them include the likes of NPR, BBC, iHeartRadio, CBS, Pandora, and leading pay services SiriusXM, Rhapsody, and Live365. Not only that, you can opt to save up to a hundred of your favorite stations directly to the Encore Wi-Fi music system, so that you will be able to enjoy quick access to top station and artist choices later on.

Not only that, one will be able to enjoy additional features such as seven separate alarms alongside an adjustable sleep timer and large snooze bar (which is very, very important to those who cannot live without the snooze function), a headphone jack, RCA line out, RCA aux-in, a USB slot so that it can also juice up power hungry smartphones at the end of the day, access flash drive stored tracks, or use the optional Grace USB to Ethernet (RJ45) connector. The asking price for the Grace Digital Encore (GDI-IRC7500) Stereo Wi-Fi Music System stands at $249.99 a pop.

Toshiba Encore Tablet Delivers Windows 8.1 On The Go

Toshiba Encore Tablet Delivers Windows 8.1 On The GoToshiba’s foray into the tablet market is not that markedly successful in comparison to other players in the same industry, but perhaps with the introduction of the Toshiba Encore, their fortunes might change for the better? The Toshiba Encore happens to be an 8-inch multi-touch display device that will be powered by an Intel Atom processor, running on Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system as it has been specially optimized to do so. The Toshiba Encore’s hardware features were specially designed to support a full-spectrum software and apps experience, and you will find the dual microphones and Dolby Digital Plus audio processing deliver a best-in-class Skype experience.

Other than that, each purchase of the Toshiba Encore would see it come with a full version of Office Home & Student 2013, the Xbox Smart Glass app, a free streaming pass to Xbox Music, and Norton Anti-theft among others. Despite sporting an 8” display, you can still hold it in one hand, and the 1280 x 800 resolution display ought to offer you an above average viewing experience, with the entire device encased in a stylish silver textured backplate, measuring a mere 0.42” thin while tipping the scales at 479 grams.

Other hardware specifications include 32GB of internal memory, a micro USB 2.0 port, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Expect it to arrive later this November for $329.99 a pop. Enjoy the photo gallery right after the jump.

Toshiba Encore is the company's first 8-inch Windows tablet; coming November for $330 (hands-on)

Acer may have beaten everybody to market with the first 8-inch Windows tablet, but we knew it wouldn’t be long before the other guys started catching up. Toshiba just entered the fray with the Encore, an 8-inch tablet that manages to be even cheaper than Acer’s W3. Like the W3, it runs on an Atom processor, but because Toshiba waited longer it got to use one of Intel’s new quad-core Bay Trail chips. What’s interesting, too, is that Toshiba apparently worked closely with Microsoft on this, not just in optimizing the tablet for Windows 8.1, but in making sure the tablet’s dual mics and 2MP front camera will be Skype-certified by the time it ships. The Encore arrives in early November – i.e., not long after Windows 8.1 ships. As for that price we alluded to, it’ll cost $330 with a category-standard 1,280 x 800 display and 32GB of built-in storage (expandable via microSD). Not bad considering the W3 hit the market at $380, and is still going for about $350 in most places. That leaves just one teensy question: what’s it like to use?%Gallery-slideshow79642%%Gallery-slideshow79615%

Time Warner Cable taps into Starz Play and Encore Play

Many subscribers of Starz and Encore have known the joy of free, on-demand movies for some time now, but customers of Time Warner Cable are more likely accustomed to another feeling — one of exclusion. Fortunately, that all changes today, as Time Warner now provides access to Starz Play and Encore Play. The services are free to subscribers of the pay channels, and are accessible both over the web and via apps for Android and iOS. As it stands, Starz Play offers access to 400 titles (including 300 movies), while Encore Play offers somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 titles, 300 of which are movies. Signing into Starz Play and Encore Play is simply a matter of plugging in your Time Warner Cable ID, which is used for authentication with the Play system. Naturally, the latest announcement serves as a nice complement to TWC TV, and could also prove itself a worthwhile Plan B for times when Netflix is on the fritz.

DirecTV Subscribers Can Now Get Starz and Encore on the Go

If you’re going to be doing a lot of traveling tonight to and from the homes of friends and family, you might be looking for some entertainment options to keep you occupied during a road trip. DirecTV has announced that its customers who subscribe to Starz and Encore now have access to the authenticated online streaming services for both pay channels. This means you can watch your favorite Starz or Encore programs or movies on the go.

The Starz Play and Encore Play apps are available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch at no cost on the App Store. DirecTV subscribers can also stream content through Wi-Fi and broadband connections on their computer at StarzPlay.com and EncorePlay.com. Android users will get access to the applications in the future. DirecTV customers simply need to provide their account information to link their accounts and stream the content using the apps.

Encore Play promises about 900 different monthly selections including 300 movies and select original programming. Starz Play offers about 400 monthly selections including 300 movies, some of them being first-run titles. Starz also offers access to its original shows including the awesome Spartacus series.

New Starz Play website and apps stream only to Cox customers, but you might not need them

Starz Play authenticated streaming apps and website launch, but you might not need them

Earlier this year Starz pulled its online content library back from Netflix and now it’s relaunching the old Starz Play branded websites and apps (iOS and WiFi only for now, 3G and Android coming soon) for authenticated streaming, similar to HBO Go and Showtime Anytime. There’s also an Encore Play site, and it plans to launch one for its Movieplex channel in the future. Currently, the services only support logins from Cox cable subscribers, but if you’re not on that pay-TV provider you may not be missing out after all.

Starz has already licensed its content to providers like Comcast for streaming through its Xfinity website and apps, deals which it tells The Hollywood Reporter cover about 70 percent of its customers. Like HBO and Showtime, this probably is not a prelude to offering its service beyond the tethers of cable and satellite, but as exec Ed Huguez puts it, “it is an expression of (Starz’) brand and user interface.” That likely only applies domestically however, as Starz also announced it’s licensing its content to the cable-free HBO Nordic service, and one can see how building up its technology means it could serve up its own streams internationally some day. Even if you get Starz, if your provider is large enough to handle its own business when it comes to online services this probably won’t affect you. However, for customers on smaller cable companies or in the future when deals get renegotiated, you may have another app to add to your drawer for TV Everywhere-style viewing.

Just Mobile talks about working with Apple and why it manufactures in Taiwan exclusively

Just Mobile talks about Apple product certification, previews its AluRack, AluBase and HeadStand

For the average Joe that have managed to stay out of the Apple circle, the Just Mobile brand might not immediately ring a bell, but chances are you would’ve come across one of its peripheral designs at some point. The only problem is unless you knew the company in the first place, you’d easily assume that the aluminum or even plastic knock-offs are just based on generic designs, because there are simply too many of them. It’s no wonder Just Mobile co-founders Nils Gustafsson and Erich Huang take imitations of all forms very personally (especially the ones they and their lawyers see at CES), but fortunately, we were spared from prolonged ranting when we visited the duo’s office in Taichung, Taiwan recently. What we were treated to instead was an insight into how an accessory maker works with Apple and why Just Mobile manufactures exclusively in Taiwan, as well as getting a preview of the upcoming AluRack, HeadStand and AluBase that are due out this month.
