Schmidt is waiting, Apple

We caught a glimpse of Google Now for the iPhone and iPad after a YouTube video was leaked last week, although it was pulled from the service once Google was made aware of the leak. Considering the leak, we know an app will soon be made available on iOS, but what exactly is holding it up from being released.

According to Google’s Eric Schmidt, the ball is completely in Apple’s court as he was asked directly if Google Now would arrive on the iPhone. Schmidt responded by saying “you’ll need to discuss that with Apple. Apple has a policy of approving or disapproving apps that are submitted into its store, and some of the apps we make they approve and some of them they don’t.” He also took a small shot at their review process as “they recently did approve Google Maps, thank goodness.” When asked to give specifics regarding the Google Now situation, Schmidt declined to comment. It’s not every day your class gets a visit from a tech bigwig like Eric Schmidt. Google’s executive chairman paid a visit to a UK school, alongside Raspberry Pi co-founder Eben Upton. The duo were there to talk code, an appearance that coincided with the announcement that a grant from Google Giving will be bringing 15,000 Raspberry Pi Model Bs to kids in that country. The companies will be working alongside six educational partners to decide precisely whose hands those little computers will end up in. More info on the program can be found in the source link.

We’ve been following Eric Schmidt’s visit to North Korea, and it looks like the Google Executive has returned from the four-day trip together with former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, Jared Cohen of Google Ideas, and Schmidt’s daughter, Sophie. In an interview with reporters at the Beijing International Airport, Schmidt said that North Korea is at risk of falling further behind if it continues to limit the access of the Internet and cellular service to its people.
