ESPN launches ESPNFC site and apps, updates ESPN Goals with match previews, highlights

Some football leagues around the globe have already kicked off the 2012-2013 season, but there’s still some time before the ball officially starts rolling in other parts of the world — unless, of course, you take into consideration this past Sunday’s Community Shield. In any case, ESPN appears to have prepared itself pretty well for the upcoming footie spell, announcing an all-new ESPNFC landing page and a full set of applications to accompany the fresh site — which will essentially be replacing what we used to know as ESPNsoccernet. Furthermore, The Worldwide Leader in Sports updated its ESPN Goals app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone, bringing game previews and highlights, analyst ramblings from folks like Tommy Smith, as well as the ability to easily share these videos with friends on Twitter or Facebook. If you asked us, we’d say this isn’t a half bad way to keep yourself updated on the latest global soccer happenings, and could, perhaps, even help in your quest to become fantasy league champion.

WatchESPN Android app update finally brings access for Comcast subscribers

WatchESPN Android app update finally brings access for Comcast subscribersWhile the WatchESPN app for iOS got an update that opened up mobile streams for Comcast cable customers back in May, it’s taken until now for Android devices to enjoy the same access. Along with unspecified bug fixes, version 1.6.0 worked on the Nexus 7 and Galaxy S II we tried it on, although we did need to log out and log in again with our account credentials to get the streams working the first time. The video streams we were able to pull in didn’t seem to be quite as high res as those accessed on the iPad however, although all those with the right combination of services and hardware can grab the free app at the source link below and try it out themselves.

The U: When Football Players Go Bad, Fun Things Happen [Video]

From the players to the coaches to the administrators to the boosters, University of Miami football in the ’90s was dirty, underhanded, morally and ethically suspect. It was also the best. But unlike the other schools which almost certainly went out of their way to project a squeaky clean image, the U was downright unapologetic for its on-field antics. And you know what? That shit was entertaining. More »

Sirius XM gives Google TV a Stern look, plans radio app for this summer

Sirius XM gives Google TV a Stern look, plans radio app for this summerSirius XM has long had a love affair with Android, going so far as to build an Android-powered satellite radio just a few months ago. That flame is burning for at least a little while longer with plans for a Google TV app launching this summer. Much in line with Sirius XM’s more recent internet options, subscribers can soon tune into virtually anything from the satellite radio lineup, including the obligatory Howard Stern, as well as online-only bonuses like ESPN SportsCenter. The radio provider tells Reuters that it worked “closely” with Google to build the app, but what secret sauce that adds (if any) is left to the imagination: the live pausing and five-hour content storage don’t exactly break the mold of what we’ve seen so far. We’ll find out very soon just how category-busting Sirius XM can get when we get a full reveal of the Google TV app in sync with the start of Google I/O.
